The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
According to a presolicitation notice from the US General Services Administration, the US military is buying 300 PlayStation 3's for some kind of unspecified research. According to the notice:
The Air Force Research Laboratory is conducting a technology assessment of certain cell
processors. The processors in the Sony PlayStation 3 are the only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost.
It looks like Uncle Sam is building a hive mind based on cell processors on the cheap! Cell processors are found in each PlayStation 3 and run at 3.2 GHz.
Flashback: In late 2006 a machine codenamed "Roadrunner" was to be build by Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico by the Department of Energy. Roadrunner was to be build upon the cell processors designed for the PlayStation 3. According to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Phase 1 of the Roadrunner development is underway.
The Microsoft fanboy in me may never forgive me for posting this video. But as a gamer and a lover of immersive first person shooters, I must post this video.
First off, do yourself a favor and what it in uber high resolution. Stream the video from here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21637.html
Else, stay here and watch this lower resolution blurry POS:
I don't own a PlayStation 3. But trailers like this make me want to own one. All of a sudden, HALO 3 looks a lot different to me.
I'm typing this as I'm watching Microsoft's E3 presentation.
The high school kids playing the HALO music was cool.
Peter Moore says this will be the biggest holiday season of all time for them. All games shown tonight launch this year.
Adults playing Rock Band didn't blow me away. Was kind of cool. Was kind of lame.
XBOX 360 sales figures are impressive. The Wii is (barely) out selling the XBOX 360 right now. However,
Total consoles sold (in millions)
5.6 - 360
2.8 - Wii
1.4 - PS3
Total since launch of Wii and PS3
2.7 - 360
2.8 - Wii
1.4 - PS3
XBOX 360 has sold more games since the launch of Wii and PS3 than SONY and Nintendo combined.

The PS3 has a new price effective today: $499 for the 60GB model. A new 80GB model is set for release in August that will come bundled with MotorStorm for the beloved price of $599. With that cat out of the bag, is a price cut on Xbox 360 imminent?
An analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities thinks so, and issued a note to investors today that said Microsoft will announce an Xbox 360 price cut tomorrow at the start of the revamped E3 Media & Business Summit, which takes place all week.
Is it true? Next-gen.boz contacted Microsoft for comment who replied "Microsoft has not made any announcements regarding a price cut on Xbox 360." No-fluffy-joke. That's not what they said. They said you'll announce it tomorrow.
The analyst went on to state that the $299 Core pack will drop to $249; the $399 Premium pack will drop to $349; and the recently released $479 Elite model will drop to $399.
Is the prediction true? Only time will tell. Would a new lower price entice those of you who have been holding out? What about those thinking about an Elite upgrade?
My mother-in-law's husband, Linkoln, has a PS3. Since Christina and I are staying here during our trip, I've had a chance to take it for a test drive.
First impressions:
-The disk drive is like a car CD player, where you push it into a small slot, rather than the 360 where you lay the disc into a tray. I get the feeling the disc is more secure and more difficult to scratch using this method, although it may just be a "grass is greener" issue.
-It doesn't have "buttons" per se. It has sensors. To turn it on I run my finger-tip across a touch-sensitive area on the surface of the PS3. Same to eject a disc. I get the feeling this could break more easily than a button, but it certainly makes a sleek profile.
