Birmingham trying for 2020 Olympic games

The City of Birmingham is going to try to get the 2020 Olympic games. Here's a story:

The application fee is $500,000 and that cost would be split by business leaders and the city. "This is not a game or a joke. You don't spend half a million if you don't believe in the product you're trying to sell. There's nothing cheap about this."

I think it's a waste of money. It's a cool dream. I'd love for Bham to get such an event. But I think the Bham mayor needs a dose of reality. Just because a city can fund the application fee doesn't mean it's able to be a host city. Bham doesn't have the infrastructure to support such an event. Outside of a few SEC events, Bham doesn't host national sporting events.

Besides...even if Bham had the infrastructure and the financing the back this event, do you think the Olympic committee would choose a site that's just 2 hours from the site of the '96 games? I feel that Bham is too close to Atlanta.
