I noticed a few Premium Systems go for $500 on eBay today. That\'s just $100 more than MSRP and you still get more than $500 worth of equipment in the bundle. Prices are coming down as supply is coming down (doesn\'t make sense). Perhaps the :quote: hype :quote: factor was involved. I would have jumped on them if I had gotten to them first.

Keep Checking Back for Xbox 360

Today, a couple of us spent a good deal of the day today pouring over feedback from forums and blogs. There are a couple of particularly nasty rumors that I’d love to address. I know Molly continues to work with the mainstream press, so you should expect news stories to continue.

Recall Rumors are 100% False: The nastiest RUMOR that’s making the rounds is that Microsoft is going to do some sort of a recall of the Xbox 360. Several forum threads I’ve seen are talking about folks going into retailers, only to be told that there will be no more units coming because of a Microsoft recall. NOT TRUE! If you\'re told this by a retailer, let me know.

Replenishment Units Are On The Ground: Also, there are reports of some retailers saying they won’t have units for weeks or months. Also not true (in most cases). My theory is that some people might be tired of the constant calls, so they’ve made something up to get people to quit calling. We are shipping units constantly (we have chartered 747’s regularly flying in with units). Some retailers have a backorder wait list, and might not have units that will be on shelf for some time, and some retailers might allocate more units to one store over another, but all stores that have placed orders are getting replenishments regularly.

In fact, we have confirmation that units are on the ground and on their way to retailers this week. When those will go from our warehouses to retailer warehouses, then to retailer locations is largely up to those retailers, so there’s no easy way to say which store will get product on which day. You should call your local retailer to find out. We remain on track to ship 2.75 to 3.0 million consoles in the first 90 days.

Hardware Replacements in as Few as 5-7 Days: I saw a couple of posts where people with problems were postponing calling 800-4MYXBOX. Not sure if it’s because of long wait times (now the rush of launch is beginning to die down, those are diminishing), or that they think they might be weeks without a console. Truth is that we’re turning around replacement/repaired units extremely quickly, in as few as 5-7 business days. Our support reps have been trained to troubleshoot your problems over the phone. When a return is necessary, we overnight a prepaid box to you, which allows you to overnight your console back to us. In most cases, we troubleshoot/repair/replace your Xbox 360 in 1-2 days, and we overnight it back. We planned for world-class customer satisfaction, and have plenty of consoles, parts, and trained employees to handle the volume.

We\'re Not Holding Back: I’m continue to see comments/questions about Microsoft holding back inventory to keep the price inflated/keep hype going. We have shipped every console we’ve made, and we’re making more as fast as we can. Fact is, there is significantly more demand than supply, and will be for some time. We’re all gamers, and we all understand how frustrating it is to wait. We’re doing all we can to get Xbox 360 controllers into the hands of those that have waited so long. But believe me when I say, we aren\'t holding units, and we\'re not creating hype for hype\'s sake. There\'s no good economic justification for that (but that\'s the subject for another blog post...).

I scored a $300 Core bundle at 11am today.

I called SEARS and learned they had 2 Core\'s in stock. I asked the man to save one for me, but told me he couldn\'t reserve one. The Rev went with me in hopes of getting 2. By the time I got to the store, there was only 1 Core available. I bought it. Everything sounded fishy. I think the employees bought the other 3 systems (2 were Prem\'s).

The systems were not on the shelves. They were in the back of the warehouse.

I think I\'m going to keep this system until I see a Prem on the shelf.

So, I\'m still looking for a Prem.

They should be out in stores tomorrow or Saturday. It will be up to the stores to put them on the shelves. Some may keep the systems for later in Dec. Who knows?

According to eBay president and CEO Meg Whitman, a staggering 40,000 Xbox 360 consoles have been sold on eBay.

As reported by Dow Jones last night based upon a presentation at the CSFB Annual Technology Conference, the 40,000 unit figure has left pundits flabbergasted. If launch supply estimates from American Technology Research are accurate, that would mean that 10% of all Xbox 360 consoles sold in the US were either sold or resold through eBay.

Supposedly from a thread I had earlier posted, one of the other forums I frequent got a list of how many consoles each store is getting, no confirmed data. But store #514, which is the Huntsville store, is supposedly getting 30 systems.

I have read similar info from multiple sources. Supposedly advertisements will come out for the event on the 16th.

Some Costco\'s around the nation got loads of Premiums today. No idea if Huntsville got any. Some are getting 100 or more units.

Also, 360\'s could be had this week by paying attention to some of the links in the OP. For instance, Circuit City and Gamestop had bundles this week.

I will probably go hunting for 360s next weekend.

My Walmart got 7 Premiums in the other day.. but they never made it out of the stock room.. illegal? ( The employee\'s got them.. and probably saleing them )

I don\'t think it\'s illegal for employee\'s to buy these things. It is probably against company policy though. Of course you have to rely on their bosses enforcing the rules and firing people at a time of year when they need all the employees that they can get.

When I was at the PX, I remember the manager telling us that it would be illegal for them to withold supply for their employees, that\'s why a guy who worked at the PX was standing in line with us. It\'s possible it\'s illegal according to store policy, but it\'s still wrong and people should get fired.

Mintz, you\'re basically in your own little autonomous provence there. There are several things that are illegal to do on post, that aren\'t illegal to do off post. I could see why there would be federal regulations preventing that type of behavior in the PX.

Bullet told me the following:

Target on Univ got 24 Premium\'s last week (Monday, I think). Word spread throughout the store and the boxes never made it off the pallet, let alone the electronics department.

Supposedly, the Best Buy on Univ Drive is getting 30 units during the great 360 Stockpile of 2005. This is coming from another one of those leaked documents stating how many units are going to each store (BTW, the first leaked document with launch day totals was accurate).

Bullet tells me that an insider at our local BB says that the 360\'s will not be available for purchase until the 21st, although most internet rumors state that BB will sell them on the 18th.

Yeah, ive been going to stores since they came out and havent seen jack. But i did get word target has been getting some this week, i was probably 30 mins from getting one this morning, just missed it. Im gonna get up early tomorrow and hit them again.

Rev, you\'re right. I am the guy with dumb luck. However, I wasn\'t planning on getting a 360 until I get back from IZ. I had read all of rapture and other\'s posts on times and dates different stores have them for sale, projected numbers for stores, etc. I firmly believe that if I had wanted one between 29-Nov and today that I could have scored one.

-I would set up a google reader page with an XML feed from xbox360tracker.com as well as any other sites that I know would have them regularly.
-I would visit Wal-Marts on Tuesdays, and find out when other high-volume retailers receive their shipments. You\'ll have to talk to several people before you move past the mindless CSRs to someone that knows WTH is going on.

Much of your interaction with the stores is going to be personality driven. The first CSR you get on the phone probably doesn\'t care and will tell you anything (most likely OOS) to get back to doing her crossword puzzle.

Be pushy. It\'ll pay off.

My friend went to Target this morning and they had gotten in 8, she didn\'t know to ask and three people came up and asked while she was buying a PS2 for her daughter. They got the last three and she wanted one for her son. The lady told her to check everyday, that they sell out by 0830 and they don\'t set them out you have to ask. They get shipments every night, so considering the distribution center is just outside of Huntsville, they may be getting units daily or at least several times a week.

I\'m not dissagreeing, I was just trying to be a smart ..... I am not concerned with getting one right now. Don\'t get me wrong, I\'d like to have one, I\'m just more in the mood of I\'ll buy one if I come across it, or if someone else buys one and is willing to sell it at cost or a small profit, I\'ll buy it from them. I don\'t want one nearly enough to go ebaying for one. I\'ll eventually get one, when demand falls, or I get lucky. If I found 3 like you did, I\'d be really happy, because I\'d do the same thing you did.

We scored another 360 Premium today from KMart. It was in the display case, in plain view. We thought it was a display box, and apparently so did the cashier, because she turned both me and my dad away, saying they were OOS.

Dad purchased this one and is going to make it his innaugural sell on Ebay. He has bought almost 100 items, but never sold.

After that we had \"the fever\" due to getting 4 boxes in just over 2 days. We then went around to most large local retailers, with no luck. Here are some points to consider though:
-Wal-Mart gets shipments on Tuesday
-CompUSA apparently gets shipments on Tuesday
-I thought Target gets shipments on Tuesday, but apparently it may be more often. Target CSR said they had 48 yesterday (Wednesday).
-BB apparently gets shipments on the weekends.
-Expired layaways are coming up at Wal-Mart due to people doing lay-away on launch day and then not paying it off. Pulaski, TN, Wal-Mart told me they offered two for sale this way.

Stuff like that justs makes me wanna give up.

According to a reliable source who works at Wal-Mart (but would like to remain anonymous, for obvious reasons), the world\'s largest retailer is stockpiling Xbox 360s for their first ad of the new year.

Our source has seen inventory in a back room that must be held for that first ad, which presumably would be in effect from January 1st or 2nd of 2006. According to our source, \"the actual sales people were upset about it, because they know that the attach rate to a console [meaning mad accessories, yo] can easily match the price OF the console - which adds huge numbers to the stores sales figures before the end of the year.\"

Microsoft\'s other official launch partner actually did the same thing with an ad hold for the new Xbox this past weekend, so you can bet that there\'s a method to this (marketing) madness. Now that the 360\'s a bit easier to find these days, these types of announcements don\'t hold quite as much force as before, though you\'d be really lucky to randomly walk into a store which has the new systems in stock and ready to be sold. Campers, ready for one more go?

I went to walmart yesterday and the lady told me they are suppose to have 360\'s sunday mornin, just thought i would share.

If you are going to hit Target, be there when they open @ 8am and ask the person in electronics if they have them. I don\'t think they put them out on display.

I successfully set up my 360 today to interface with my PC running Windows Media Connect. I went to xbox.com, found the instructions, followed a link to run the WMC \"wizard\" and I was done before I knew it. I had to open WMC to tweak some sharing settings, but overall I couldn\'t have been happier with the process. I am sorry you guys had a hard time. I must have the internet elves on my side today.

Aside: I would stop wasting my time with Best Buy. They are horrible to deal with, will not give you accurate info about shipments, and don\'t even get the lion\'s share of 360s in Huntsville. I would focus on Target and Wal-Mart. There appear to be weekly opportunities at both of those places.

It took me a while to get it set up, and I did call support to help me out. The guy read me some instructions over the phone for something or other, but I just kept telling him \"It makes no difference if my firewalls are on or off. Yes, they are on the same subnet. Those ports are already open.\" Eventually, while he was reading something to me, I tried streaming some music, and it worked! As soon as he took a pause, I told him it was working! Dunno what we did, but it worked! So yeah, I\'m happy with it now. I\'m glad I don\'t have to transfer all those MP3s!

If it was anywhere but BB you\'d be fine with going at lunch (they don\'t open until 10 AM). However, BB is where everyone watches for 360s, so they may have a line at 10 AM. Once again, I think the places to target are Wal-Mart and...err...Target. It\'s Tuesday so Wal-Mart should get a shipment. Target should be tomorrow.

I had a premium in my cart at sears.com but then it came up OOS when I tried to check out.

I used the CC online instock tracker to find a Premium at the Huntsville location today. The website was surprisingly accurate. When I left the had 2 Cores and 1 Premium left. For accessories and games though I had to go to GameStop in the Target shopping center on University. BB, CC, and CompUSA were all out of wireless controllers, COD2, and play and charge kits. GameStop had plenty of everything you could want.

When I went to get an additional controller at EB games at Jones Velley, I thought I overheard this guys ask about 360s and then I thought I heard the guy working there say \"We have a couple of systems in the back, but they are cores.\" Thought that was interesting, considering they told me it would be MARCH before they had any for non-preorderers.

I really don\'t understand this retail strategy of misinformation.

If anything, shouldn\'t retailers fill us with BS about how often they get 360 shipments. Shouldn\'t they try to string us along, hoping that they\'ll have one in stock soon, so that we keep checking back. Anytime a customer comes into your store, odds go up that you\'ll have a sale of some kind. However, most retailers have the attitude that they want the 360 hunters in their store (asking about availability) as little as possible.

Both the CSR\'s at CC and BB were actually very helpful to me and knew what they were talking about. I was really surprised. The CSR at BB said they have been getting in one shipment a week, but that it\'s not consistent as far as what day of the week. BB has an online instock tracker too that several people on the web claim has worked really well for them.

There are multiple tiers of employees in these organizations (oversimplification of course)...
1. A business owner/stockholders
2. A professional who\'s career is tied up in the success of the business (manager, PR rep, accountant, etc)
3. A professional salesperson working on with some sort of bonus system in place (commision or whatever)
           -  or -
4. A minimum wage cash register jockey.

There will be bad apples and attitudes at all levels, but the closer to number one you get, the closer you get to someone who\'s own personal fortune is tied up in making as many paying customers happy as possible. Also I figure even the most professional of people given faulty information will pass on faulty info.

So Slayer (and anyone else who\'s been given misinformation) which group did you talk to? I\'m really curious whether we are seeing bad management, uninformed personnel pulling numbers out of their buts, or minimum wage employees blowing you off.
