Halo 3 wishlist

This is just a few of my wishes for Halo 3. Now obviously, my ideal Halo would be Halo:CE with improved graphics, fixed glitches like rocket misfires, etc, with XBL support. Since Bungie is so nub, that will never happen.

So thinking realisticly, this is my H3 wishlist.

  1. First and foremost, get rid of H2\'s weapon respawn system. It is atrocious. It nearly ruins the game all by itself. Please put every weapon back onto a constant timer.

  2. I\'d like to see a few changes to the battle rifle. My ideal Battle Rifle would be a more accurate single shot weapon that takes 4 shots to the head and 8 to the body, with a firing rate a little faster than what it is now. It also needs more range if Bungie is going to keep employing these ginormous maps. As I\'ve always said, realism in Halo is not important to me. I mean we\'re superhuman cyborgs with regenerating force field shields fighting plasma equipped aliens on an ancient ring world. I\'ll play flight simulator or some World War game if I want realism for the heck of realism.

  3. Fix the plasma pistol. It should track the way it tracks in H1, meaning it\'s worthless, like it should be.

  4. Leave banshees in BTB maps, because I don\'t play those anyways.

  5. Please don\'t return Blood Gulch.

  6. Make masterchief throw grenades, and make the grenade physics just like in Halo 1. Why mess with perfection Bungie? Again, I don\'t want to hear about realism. Don\'t tell me you changed the grenades to make it more realistic, when at the same time, you incorporate a sword made of translucent plasma material, or take out fall damage, and MC can suddenly fall from great distances.

  7. Revive H1\'s melee system.

  8. Non-communist playlists, please. Let us have at least a little bit of a choice in what we can play in matchmaking. How about a list of playlists starting with SMG\'s, and another slew of playlists starting with BR. Thanks.

That\'s all I can think of for now, without basically going through every change they\'ve made and saying \"Make it more like H1 please\".

Ok, heres what i would like to see in halo 3 in no particular oder. It must be in it!!!!

1) Please make it less Pansy! Make killing someone more consistent

2) Make vehicles easier to destroy or more consistent ....ex, when i hit a hog with 3 grenades and the gunner stays in and keeps shooting, that is messed up...ex 2, when my whole team shoots a banshee till there are no wings and it is smoking but doesnt blow up.

3) Make melee stronger, since masterchief is a super strength human.

4) Make sniper a little less noobish and actually have to hit the person for it to register.

5) When you said you would update playlist every few weeks, i would like to see that happen. And actually listen to what people say and not have to release updates every 3 months to release a mod of the playlists.

6) Plasma pistol needs some serious tuning down, i dont like the changeover though i have to use it now.

7) Make Coagulation not have the weird sniper lag it has. No matter how i lead i just cant hit people from long distances there.
That is a few, i cant think of too many more. Honestly there are so many things i like about halo 2, but then there are those few bad things that really make it frustrating to keep playing it when you know you are getting the ringer.

Ah yes, I forgot about that. It is very important that they fix that. Basically it\'s impossible to kill a ghost in a 1v1 situation, even 1v2 most of the time. I think vehicles should become MUCH more destructable and less powerful. Of course if I had it my way, there would be no maps big enough to accomodate vehicles in the first place.

JDOGG85's picture

Or atlease take them out of slayer games since its so freakin hard to kill any of them without a rocket. I mean ive some of the most bs stuff that was caused by vehicles. When i can be killed by a single smg when I am in a banshee, but when i try it i die it\'s just not right. Coagulation and ascension are some of the most blood pressure raising levels in the game because of those \"substitute what ever you would like here\" vehicles.

rapture Halo 3 Wishlist

A work in progress...

1. Weapon respawns. Camping is actually encouraged due to the current weapon respawn system. A game of Team Slayer on Coagulation ends the same way most of the time. The strategy: get both snipers and the rocket then make the enemy come to you (the rocket will take down any vehicle attacking the team with the power weapons – the snipers will take out any SMG or BR that begins to get close to the camp). This happens because in Coagulation there can only be 2 sniper rifles and 1 rocket launcher in the map at one time.

That kind of weapon respawn encourages a linear style of gameplay. The team with those power weapons only has to worry about keeping those weapons the entire game and managing ammo (which there is plenty). The team with those weapons always sets up camp somewhere on the map and waits for the enemy to approach.

Is there any camping in Ascension? My answer: If there is any camping in Ascension, it isn’t because of weapon respawns. Imagine how much camping would take place is there were only 2 sniper rifles in play at one time in Ascension. In Ascension sniper rifles will spawn even if both snipers are already in play. I think if weapons spawned on top of each other (perhaps on some kind of timing system) there would be less camping during the Team Slayer matches on XBOX Live.

2. Game browser for all custom games – I would play Halo 2 twice as much (maybe more) if I could look over a listing of custom games and select the game I want to join. I can’t host objective-based team games because I can not promote my game – even while my XBOX Live buddy list is near full. It takes too long to get a big party started when I host a game of my own. I can’t find games hosted by other people. Give me a game directory so that I can join up to non-playlist gametypes quickly.

I miss out on a lot of custom gametypes just because the hosts of those gametypes can’t promote their games to an audience of thousands.

Disclaimer: I said I would play Halo 2 twice as much (or more) if I could play more custom game with 8+ players. I suspect that I would also play the Bungie.net playlists a little less.

3. Cheating: Secondary Standby and normal Standby cheaters really irk me. Please don’t give me a loss because I quit out of a game full of cheaters. UPDATE: It seems this problem has been patched in an update to Halo 2.

4. More powerful melees. Punching each other looks cool. Good job on the melee animations and good job on MC’s new armor. But, shouldn’t an enemy die after 2 melees to his body? MC’s new armor is stout, but isn’t the person inside the suit? Shouldn’t a shotgun blast + melee to the body kill the enemy? I think so. UPDATE: Since the new patch, melees are much more powerful.

I know a jump-melee is more powerful, but shouldn’t a no-jump-melee be at least as powerful as the jump-melee?

5. High Definition Video Support – Please give me 720p or 1080i. Surely the next-gen hardware will be able to push out that kind of video. This game is so much fun that we’ll play it on a 640 x 480 screen split into 4 views. Yep, that’s a 320 x 240 resolution. Don\'t hold back on us.

6. Vehicle’s resilience to attack. It takes a lot of ammo to bring a Banshee or a Ghost down. Bungie did this to show off their destructive vehicles, which is a graphical marvel. I guess they didn’t want a vehicle exploding after a few shots. How about making the pilot more susceptible to death while keeping the vehicle intact longer? I feel like if I expend all 12 bursts of my Battle Rifle without missing that I ought to be able to take down a Banshee...or at least close to bringing it down. Vehicles are too hard to bring down even with killzones – especially when we spawn with SMG’s. Please make vehicles easier to take down.

7. Grenade flipping vehicles / Grenade jumping while not on the host. Remember when we used to be able to flip a Warthog in Halo 1 with a well placed frag grenade? Only the host can do that in Halo 2. Also, only the host can \"grenade jump\". While \"grenade jumping\" is rarely used during a game, flipping a Warthog can be critical to stopping a flagger, bomber, or assault team. But, what makes this problem bad is the fact that only one person in the game can do that.

8. Conveyor belts and bouncing. If you release it just right, a flag throw from a base in Colossus will bounce to the other base after it hits the conveyor belt on the floor. I don’t mind things bouncing off the conveyor belt. But a game of CTF on Colossus often boils down to the team that can best bounce the flags. UPDATE: It seems Bungie has fixed this glitch.

9. Pulling/Pushing flags through walls. I don’t think a flag should be thrown through walls (the back of the base in Beaver Creek, under the base at Colossus, under the floor at Midship, base at Zanzibar). UPDATE: Bungie has also fixed this problem.

10. Certified custom content. This one is out there. Allow talented modders and mappers to create custom content for Halo 3 that can be released only after it is certified by some approving counsel. Mr. Gates: it would encourage us to buy your custom XBOX 2 hard drives. UPDATE: I\'m not sure I agree with this one any more. After thinking about it, it would be almost impossible for the community to make a map that would live up to the standards of the maps in Halo series. This feature could also divide the community and would require servers.

11. Teleporter warping. Have you ever gotten stuck in a teleporter like the ones in Beaver Creek? I have and it is quite annoying. What is frustrating is that there is no clear way to get out of that warp without pushing random directions on your controller. I like the way the teleporters look graphically, I just don’t want to get stuck in one when someone is on the other side. UPDATE: Bungie listens!

12. Plasma pistol. I want a way to dodge the Plasma Pistol blast while I am in the open. Give me a way to counteract the tracking of the peashooter’s blast (Jackal shield anyone?). I think the Plasma Pistol might also spawn too often in most maps. I also think they are too plentiful and should have less ammo in them.

13. Shotgun. Make the shotgun more powerful.

14. Moving boxes and barrels. Allow me to pick up a crate or box and move it to a strategic location. Come on. I\'m the Chief. Surely I\'m strong enough to push a box around a map.

15. Advanced gametype customization. I want to be able to remove the sword from certain gametypes without affecting the other weapons that are in the game. I want to be able to tweak timers, power-ups, and other items.

16. More aerial vehicles. I once saw the Kestral fly in an unreleased version of Halo. Sure it needed some tweaks, but I think it is about time the humans have an answer to the Banshee. Give me a human vehicle to balance the Covenant’s aerial weapons. Wouldn’t it be cool to carry a passenger in a human aerial vehicle? If it never made it into multiplayer, please give me another aerial vehicle in the campaign.

The Prey's picture

all very good but didnt ya\'ll forget bringing the HALO 1 pistol back?

JDOGG85's picture

Nope, that has never crossed my mind, the battle rifle is fine if you could just spawn with it and it actually be consistent when shooting someone in the head.

I think the BR would be fine if it would spawn for often in more locations and if we had it as our secondary weapon like in a lot of our custom games in Halo 1.

I don\'t think we are 4-shotting someone out of the teleporter in Coagulation like we were 3-shotting in Blood Gulch.

Oculus's picture

I was reading through Diesel\'s post about the good ole days of halo 1 and it brought me here.. some things to go on the halo 3 wishlist:

Over Xbox Live, A way to find local clans on a map, then a way to schedule a game with those clans. Somehow the ranking system could be incorporated into this so that if someone leaves you hanging, they lose points on their ranking. Also, what if there were a way to force people to meet together for a LAN. Say, you must have your accounts connected over the same network in order for everyone to log in for the particular scheduled LAN contest. Maybe, also a way to force people within one clan to meet in person. If there were different \"classes\" of clan status other than ranking, for instance, \"A\", \"B\", \"C\"... if you want your clan to maintain \"A\" Status, you must have at least [blank] number of LAN meetings

Slayer's picture

I myself miss the old Halo 1 pistol tremendously. But what might be cool is to have a semi-auto rifle that works like the old pistol. Maybe that would be a nice addition to the Halo arsenal.

FoulBreed's picture

The new BR is semi-auto. Granted it is three-round burst, but I still think of it as essentially being on shot. When I connect 4 times and kill an opponent, I call it a \"4-shot\", not a \"12-shot\" even though 12 bullets were fired. It\'s all about the number of trigger pulls. I know strafing/lag can carry a kill onto a 5th shot. I would be curious how many bullets can actually miss and still count as a \"4-shot\".

Slayer's picture

Well I am thinking more of a single shot semi-auto. I think that would be fun.

Midnight's picture

Slayer, you just mean a \"semi-auto.\" A single shot semi-auto doesn\'t make any sense. The fact the BR operates in 3-round burst mode with no semi-auto/3-round/full auto selector is an unrealistic oddity of the weapons world.

Slayer's picture

FoulBreed wrote:

I was clarifying what I meant to Foulbreed. I don\'t know weapons language. Sry for being totally stupid in that area, but semi auto is one trigger pull one shot isn\'t it? Three round burst isn\'t semi-auto is it? I understand how it might have been redundant for me to say \"single shot semi auto\", but I was merely trying to explain myself. Sry for any offense Mr. Marine Sir.

Midnight's picture

No offense taken. Just wanted to make sure you understood, and it appears you do.

Brick's picture

Quote:
Sry for being totally stupid in that area, but semi auto is one trigger pull one shot isn\'t it?

No apology necessary, we accept you and celebrate you as a person of magnificent personalitude reguardless of cognitive shortcomings within specific genres of knowledge. This is primarily because we recognize a difference between stupid (the Reeve) and uneducated (the cat in FB\'s house)...

Actually this debate got me to wondering about this. Basically I understand semi-auto to be a term refering to a firearm that does not require manual intervention to load the next round into a firing position, but does require manual intervention to fire it. When someone says this, I think to myself, \"kind of like full auto, but not really\". I understand this can be confusing because we use the term Semi to refer to a truck that is really more truck than most of us will ever drive, but when you think about it the Semi is only a truck when the trailer is attached, otherwise it is a 10 wheeled Jeep. So.. anyways ... to me semi-auto means the gun doesn\'t fire for as long as you hold down the trigger. So, it\'s kind of like a manual-auto.

The interesting question to me is where to you put the dividing line between semi-auto and full auto. If the semi-auto stops after it fires 31 rounds, but only has a 30 round magazine, then is it really a semi-auto?

- Brick

FoulBreed's picture

I guess by definition, semi-auto means one-trigger pull - one round.  Anything greater than 1 round per trigger pull, means \"X round burst\" where X is the number of shots fired.  So, a gun firing 31 rounds per trigger pull would be a gun in \"31 round burst\" mode.  I see your point though, Brick.  I think an \"engineering failure\" is what they call guns that can\'t hold as many rounds as their burst mode facilitates.

Taking your theory a step further and adding in the \"one pull - one round\" definition for \"semi-auto\", does a \"semi-auto\" gun with no rounds (thus breaking the \"one pull - one round rule\") still a \"semi-auto\"?  Is it even a gun? ???

Or, given a gun with a three-round burst mode and only 3 rounds, can you qualify this gun as a full auto by definition?  If the definition of full auto means \"ability to fire all rounds with one-trigger pull\" then for that particular case, I would say yes.  I\'m sure these are faulty defintions, but oh well.  The definition for full auto is probably something more like \"a gun having the ability to fire as many rounds as the inserted magazine is holding, with one trigger pull\".

Midnight is probably so frustrated by our relatively n00bish gun knowledge :D

Midnight's picture

You guys are actually mostly correct.

Semi-auto refers to any firearm that, upon firing, will extract the fired round, chamber a new round, and reset the firing (trigger) mechanism on its own while not firing another round.

Full auto means the weapon does all of the above and keeps on firing as long as the trigger is pressed.

Some weapons have selector switches that can select between semi/full/and burst mode. Burst mode will fire a certain number of rounds (usually 3, but there are weapons with 2-round burst) and then reset the trigger mechanism. If you let off the trigger in burst mode before the string is complete, the next string finishes your old burst, then resets for a full burst. Let off your M16A2\'s trigger after 2-shots while in 3-round burst mode and your next 3-round burst is just 1-shot (to finish the 3-round string).

Rifles that have selector switches like this are called \"assault rifles.\" The media calls anything mean looking an assault rifle, but assault rifles always always always have selector switches.

A weapon with 3-round burst only does not exist, to my knowledge. This is because the trigger\'s burst mechanism is a spin-off of the regular semi-auto trigger system, so a burst trigger mechanism could always very easily have a semi-auto mode. And if it can have it, it should, because you\'re going to score a much higher hit % in semi-auto mode.

I think that fills the few holes I saw.

Another Halo3 request:

I\'d like to be able to download gametypes off of someone else\'s host.

Or, I\'d like to be able to send gametypes to other people on my buddylist in a similar way we send voice/text messages to one another.

Starlancer's picture

You can do that on Starcraft when you play B.Net. But ya i think thats a good idea.

Mintz's picture

My semi-wishlist:

Grenade physics in relation to vehicles. The only way to flip a warthog anymore is if the driver is stupid/unlucky enough to flip it! I want the warthog to fly when a grenade explodes under its belly.

Lag. It\'s always there and it\'s inevitable. But don\'t you think it\'s a bit unfair that the host can long-range BR a guy, but nobody else can do that? It\'s ghei.

Spartan299's picture

There are a quite a few things I liked about Halo 2. But there a few things I would like to see them put in the Halo 3 game.

1. Make the AI that they use for the enemies a hell of a lot smarter. I hate it when I am facing enemies that run in the same exact path when there are a bunch of dead bodies are laying. Is it so much to ask for a challenge for once?

2. They should make it so you can a suppressors to some of your weapons, so you can add a certain level of stealth to the game. It would also help with XBox  Live when you are facing other players. Without them you could alert other player in the area. With them you could take out an opponent quietly and sneak up on other players.

3. Along with that they should add a combat knife that you can use when you run out of ammo. It would be used somewhat like the Energy Sword but downgraded, and also be able to hold enemies as a \"human\" shield and have them take the rounds fired at you.

4. Also when you kill a Jackal, they should let you be able to take shield bracelet so you could use it as a sort of overshgield for a period of time.

5. Make it so the melee attacks alot stronger, that way you could actually get in a good fistfight with someone.

6. Make them grenades stronger and make it so you can throw them like you did in the first Halo.

7. The physics engine in Halo 2 was good, but it would have been better if they make it so that when you blow an enemy up they get blown apart. Like how they did with the Flood in Halo 2 only a lot better

What he said.

Alot of good Ideas but.. I would like diesels ideas the most.. - the fact of all small lvls.. I like the big lvls but needs more depth.. like 2 lvls in 1.. inside and outside.. but maybe im getting to ahead of myslef..

Starlancer's picture

Like miship being a little level inside colossus. Thats were the hole by oversheild goes, intresting indeed. :?

Mintz's picture

errr, not. Colossus is an ancient Forerunner facility on the ground whose purpose is unknown. Midship takes place on the fastest ship in the Covenant\'s fleet.

Colossus= Ground
Midship= Air

You, sir, are in fact quite wrong.

Maverick's picture

I was about to say that.. oh I miss halo 1 btw..

Starlancer's picture

maybe there is a mysterious teleporter down the hole that sends you to miship. WHAT NOW PUNK. :smite:

Maverick's picture

Then the flood would have owned them? Or.. that would just mess up the story.. :)

Starlancer's picture

I got something new. A button somewere on bigger levels were you can target a certain place on the map and have a Pelican carpet bomb it. It can only be used 1 time per round/game. So if say Mav is being a tank whore like he usually is and i cant find rockets blamidy blam pelican rapes him. Give that a thought. . I kind of ripped that off a Half life level but i think it would be a good addition. Just my opinion.

Maverick's picture

Tank whore? Aren\'t you the one in the tank saying you own everyone? Well my wish is that you could snipe people out of the tanks like you could in Halo 1.

Mintz's picture

You can, you just have to get the canopy that closes over the player dislocated...

Lost Paradise's picture

I hope the game is better then halo 2.
There will never be another halo 1.

Celery's picture

They should quit while they are down.. h2 was a pile of poo(single and multiplayer) h1 was fun multi.. still hated the single player of that game.. they should revamp halo 1 with 360 graphics and call it quits!

Starlancer's picture

Agreed.

Maverick's picture

I second that. Unless I was watching over then with a whip as they made the game. Oh we would have a game then ^_^ it would need 2 disks! ! for single and 1 for multi I would have all the levels from Halo CE: all the PC levels +++ and fix it right up! .. Ahhh.. I got exited for nothing.. ;*(

Maverick's picture

Im gonna try and not think about halo 3 that much.. I bet it will have TONS of hipe and suck balls :( I will buy it just casue of the story.. and it will prolly still be the #1 FPS unless PDZ owns.

D15AV0W3D's picture

this may not be feasible, but i\'ll post it anyway. if i had only 1 request for H3, it would be AI so advanced that you could use it in multiplayer. i.e.: play multiplayer gametypes by yourself, where the other players are computer controlled, but advanced enough to imitate real multiplayer slayer and objective games. the difficulty setting of course would have to be adjustable (easy, normal, heroic, and legendary). the AI could be advanced enough for 4 computer controlled spartans (or elites) to go after different weapons and/or objectives in the game, as well as the 3 on your own team. like charging the rocket in coag, making the initial run for os in beaver creek, or whoring the combo and sword in certain levels, etc. the idea being multiplayer games w/out anyone else present, nor being connected to XBL.

Mintz's picture

Did you actually write that, or is it another one of rapture\'s evil filters? Whatever happened to lumberjack (I meant to write lumberjack, not something else)?

But yeah, I think multiplayer AI would be cool, especially for those without XBL. Of course, I doubt this will happen, because no multiplayer AI would mean more XBL sales for Microsoft...

I don\'t think AI Bots would hurt xbl anymore than it would help xbl. This allows players to tune skills/stats/etc. before taking them to the big show if you would call xbl that lol

Welcome to the forum, CousCous.

A \"Warthog of the Air\" has been a fan wish for a while. I have no idea how it would fit into HALO gameplay, however, it could be neat on large maps.

I would like to see more players in game. I would love to play part in a 32-man FFA. Also, I think the number 32 would help sell more copies of Halo 3 - it might even convert some PS and Nin fanbois to switch to XBOX 360. There are not too many FPS games out there that have more than 16 players available in MP (let alone good FPS games that support more than 16 men). Dang, we\'re going to have to get more THX\'ers on our buddy list if we\'re going to play in 32-man gametypes.

But, even 16-man games in H2 were laggy. Who\'s got the connection to support 32-men?

Mintz's picture

I have 384kbps upload... Nah, that wouldn\'t cut it. I\'m sure there\'d be some dedicated servers involved in a 32-man FFA.
A \"warthog of the air,\" eh? That sounds awesome. Of course, you\'d need more than 16 people to be able to take advantage of something like this. That sounds like a really good idea though. Those Seraphs are pretty cool, as are the Pelicans with a turret in the rear...

xbox liveless 8('s picture

i agree that there should be a level where there can be a cosmic galactic battlefield and have just a phat war but i fear that would lag the hell out of todays game systems, maybe that should be something in the future to look forward to, "Halo The Untold Gallactic Wars" or something lol.
