Battlefield Bad Company 2. Discuss.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter video game in development by EA Digital Illusions CE and to be published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game is a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company and was announced at one of Electronic Arts' earnings conferences and was showcased for the first time at E3 2009. The game is scheduled for release on March 2, 2010 in North America and March 5, 2010 in Europe, as announced at the EA press conference at Gamescom.

Gameplay -- Gameplay in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 resembles that of the original and is set in various environments from around the world, including the mountainous regions along the borders of Russia. Like its predecessor, Bad Company 2 features destructible environments. The system is dubbed "Destruction 2.0," and the level of destruction is extended — players can now completely collapse a building as opposed to only blowing out walls. Along with Battlefield Vietnam, Bad Company 2 is one of only two games in the Battlefield series to have blood without third-party modification.

Similar to Battlefield 1943, the health system from the previous "Bad Company" is replaced with regenerative health. There will be new vehicles in Bad Company 2, such as the UH-60, a quad bike, a two-man patrol boat, a personal watercraft, an AA-gun mounted on a light tank, and a UAV helicopter controlled via laptop.

Single-player -- On January 22, 2010, it was revealed by senior producer Patrick Bach during an interview that the single player campaign will be about ten hours in length. Right before the close of the show, executive producer Karl Magnus Troedsson stated that the team wants to "give away a good bit of stuff for free," but they also have plans for paid downloadable content as well. He also went on to say that they would like to do additional weapons, among other things that fans want to see.

In a separate trailer released on January 21, the single player campaign was detailed, featuring the return of Private Preston Marlow, Private Terrance Sweetwater, Private George Gordon Haggard Jr., and Sergeant Samuel D. Redford as the main characters of the game, hunting a fictional unknown weapon made in South America.

Multiplayer -- The "Gold Rush" mode in the original Bad Company is referred to simply as "Rush" in Bad Company 2. The format is similar in that an attacking team must detonate explosives on a defending team's crates. The attacking team succeeds by eliminating all the crates on the map, and the defending team succeeds if the attackers are not able to eliminate the crates in the active area before their tickets are depleted. Making use of the Destruction 2.0 system, it is also possible to eliminate some of the crates by collapsing the building they are in on top of them. A lower scale mode called "Squad Rush" was confirmed that has only two opposing teams of four players battle against each other with one existing crate stash.

Multiplayer will allow players to choose from a set of weapon kits before each spawn, the number of which has been further reduced from Bad Company's five down to four: Assault, Engineer, Recon, and Medic (with the Specialist kit being the one removed). In addition to the hand grenades and sidearms standard for all classes, each class also has an initial primary weapon and a pair of gadgets unique to that class. A customizable weapon selection menu is also new to the Bad Company series (similar to unlocks in Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142). Gaining experience points allows a player to unlock and use different weapons and gadgets, some only useable by a given class and some available to any class that player uses. There are also unlockable items that can modify the game's firearms, such as ACOGs, reflex sights, and short or long barrel grenade launchers. If the game is pre-ordered at GameStop, EB Games in Canada, or Amazon in the United Kingdom, the AKS-74U will be immediately unlocked for use.

The experience points used to unlock the above items will be awarded for performing actions conducive to the goals of the player's team, such as eliminating enemy players, healing teammates, or capturing or defending points of interest. Bonuses to the base number of points can be awarded under certain circumstances (such as achieving a headshot in the process of eliminating an enemy player). A dog tag system as seen in Battlefield 2142 and Battlefield: Bad Company returns, awarding players trophies of sorts in the form of opponents' dog tags when they defeat the opponent with a melee attack.

On October 19, 2009, game developer DICE posted a Twitter announcement stating the game will have dedicated server support. This was in response to Infinity Ward's announcement on October 17 that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would not support dedicated servers. Players will also be able to use party chat for each game mode.

BF BC2 requires teamwork and strategy unlike found in any Infinity Ward game. Battlefield games have always been about battlefield tactics on a large scale. MW has been about taking a street corner or small building which means that one dominating player can control a huge portion of the game...any game...with just one kit.

With the cheating going on in MW2, I'm in for BF BC2.

I wish we would all buy it for PC and grab a couple of dedi's, but that's just not practical I guess.

Repost from an email I sent out recently:

I've logged a few hours in the demo version so far and I have to say that it's one of the
better of the Battlefield series to date. The spawning system relies on squads which
gets you directly into the battle and combined with the "Rush" game type you
are no longer running halfway across a map to get into the gunfight. It makes for
some dynamic spawn control, your squad will get someone
to hold a spot and then as people die you can spawn on them or whomever you pick.

Gameplay speed is probably targeted halfway between BF 1943 and MW2. The squad spawning really
makes it a faster paced and closer gunfight game than a lot of the other battlefield games.
They've disabled going full prone, which in my opinion cuts down on the camping and was
a great decision.

The one map they provided in the demo feels like it's been designed to constrict
the vehicles to the roads which makes it easy to get away from them. This has
the probably intended effect of allowing people to avoid vehicle whores.
That being said, it still lets you project some force with a strategically placed tank
or ground attack vehicle.

They've forgone the standard radar, and replaced with an active style of marking targets with
the back button on the controller. This will highlight a small icon over the individual
targeted allowing the rest of your team to see the icon on their HUD for a few seconds.
If someone else shoots them, you get experience points that add to your overall score.
This combined with an assist on that target will net you the same amount of points as
a regular kill. A team full of people who are marking targets has a real advantage.
Marking objectives automatically gives you an XP boost when performing any
actions in that area.

The feel of the guns feels good, the engineer has some of the better handling guns in my
opinion. The sniping feels solid, the simulated bullet delay / physics may be a little
over-emphasized, but it's pretty easy to handle after realizing what's happening. A big
plus is that, for the automatic weapons, they've totally done away with spray and pray.
You now effectively should fire in short bursts like we're used to in other realistic shooters.
You can try spray and pray, but usually to no effect unless they are standing 2 yards from
you.

Graphics are up to par. We're really at the fringe of what the 360 can accomplish
at any decent framerates. They've optimized it pretty well on the 360 version.. the PC beta
version is still very beta (ie. framerate is crap, even on a medium to high end PC).
I have lower hopes that it will be as solid and optimized as the console version.
The sound in-game and far off in the distant gunfire from teammates and enemies sounds
very convincing.

As for PC vs Console, I'll have both versions, but unless they fix the framerate issue on the PC I may be sticking mostly with the 360's version. The PC I've got should last me another 1-2 years at least (gaming wise) and it was only pushing around 28-30 frames per second.

Bad Company 1 was originally written for the console I believe. That being said, the series knows how to succeed on the PC.

I bet a lot of MW2 gamers are going to ditch that game in favor of BFBC2, if for nothing else, to protest MW2's lack of dedi support.

...and then there's the cheating.

BF2 was one of the funnest games I've played. I liked it better than any CoD/MW game because of the large scale battles that took place.

I think DICE is riding the wave of IW bashing.. releasing that statement was a clear indication that they have Modern Warfare in their sights. Essentially having a way to insta-ban cheaters and hackers on the PC will drastically improve the experience. I'm already more of a fan of the BC2 demo gameplay wise than the full multiplayer part of MW. Not saying that it's a better game, just that it's more in tune with my preferences.

DICE is still not meeting us 100% of the way though. In order to run a server you must purchase from "authorized" providers. That means the server space I have sitting out there right now is virtually useless and I'd have to dole out 40 bucks a month to run my own server... it's better than nothing, but it makes it more difficult to get server mods and bumps up the cost on the admins.

I gave this game a go yesterday with roo0 and FoulBreed. 12 v 12.

Right now, I think the beta isn't as fun as MW2 (shocker), but it's a solid game and is definitely a clan-worthy game. I'd rather play it than a glitchy MW2 with the other team calling in constant airstrikes.

The beta game mode is basically Demolition from MW2, except after the two objective points are destroyed, a new section of the map opens up and you get to do it all over again. I think I like that version of Demolition better because it's on a larger scale and since there's no spray and pray.

Squad system is cool. You can spawn in off someone on your squad. So, if your squad is working toward an objective, your teamwork is rewarded by being able to spawn in next to someone alive on your team. That's critical because some spawn points are a quarter (half?) mile away from the objective.

Vehicles are pretty cool and not over powering. Station turrets can make you rich but are easy to destroy. They are also good for destroying vehicles.

I would say the scale is slightly smaller than BF2 but it's Battlefield all over again.

One more thing. After playing BF BC2, I realized how fast MW2 is. The FPS in MW2 are much higher than BF BC2. Also, while you have unlimited sprint in BF BC2, MW2 movements are faster.

I had a blast playing with Mikeulus and roo0 yesterday. It is fun spawning off your squad. Makes a big diff nit have to run half a mike to the objective.

Medic class is my fav. Can keep a 3:1 k/d with the SCAR. It has a 100 round clip.

I am back button spamming the hell out of the map.

I will buy the game.

Wow, that's a steal. I'm going to buy this game for sure.
