Holiday LAN, anyone?
I'm throwing out the idea of having a THX Holiday LAN. If interest is shown, but a better venue doesn't present itself, then I'll host. If anyone wants to host, or knows of a good venue, please jump in.
I could host one Saturday, Jan. 4th. I could attend one just about any weekend except for the one after Xmas.
What do you guys think?
Some random thoughts of mine about LANning:
1. HALOween was fun. I think H3, w/ a mix of objective-based games and MLG rules, and the occasional rocket race, is as good as it gets for me. I don't know if all of you share my affinity, although some of you do (rap, D3ATHsLAYER).
2. If it IS at my place, then it will be much the same as the last LAN: H3 and CoD4. I'll also be somewhat more prepared for stragglers, i.e. 4-way split-screen on my new 56" DLP.
3. If it ISN'T at my place, and game choice is different, then hey, I'll still have a good time. I've had fun LANning CoD4 and GoW2 w/ you guys before...
The only weekend I'd be able to attend a LAN would be this weekend, and I doubt anyone will man up and host so soon. I'm out of town/busy until the Jan 10/11 weekend, so I guess I'm out of the holiday LAN plan. Hope you still have a fun LAN!
I'd rather not LAN H3 again. Frankly, if I want to play H3, I can do so on XBL... but I don't cause I don't want to. COD4 is fun to LAN, but again, I can play that on XBL. Maybe even GOW2. Honestly, if we have a LAN, I want to play H1. Or at least something that is more commonly enjoyed by THXers than H3. But hey, I have fun hangin out with everyone, and I am sure I would enjoy whatever game is chosen... its just I think there would be more fun if we did something other than H3.
I'm just sayin'...

I'd be up for an H1 LAN, as well. Good point, Slayer. That's what started it all, right?!
I love a good H1 LAN, but I love the simple Xbox/TV setup of a Halo 3 LAN.
But you won't even be there...

I will attend and enjoy any LAN.
I like the ease of LANing H3. However, I don't like how I feel once I get there. I imagine this is akin to nailing the high school tramp.
I like LANing COD4. However, it's subtle LANing requirements are a PITA. I imagine this is akin to nailing the high-maintenance prom queen.
I had a lot of fun LANing GoW 2 at my house last time. I do not have a lot of fun with GoW 2 on XBL. Perhaps a lagless environment for everyone makes GoW 2 fun. This may just be because it's new. I imagine this is akin to nailing the new chick from out of town that likely has scabies but nobody knows it yet.
I like LANing H1, but only 4 boxes per game is tough to organize with many people, and it kills the BYOS concept. I don't want to go back to lugging the boat anchor around in the back of Ryan's civic. Overall, H1 is showing its age. I imagine this is akin to nailing a cougar.
Overall, there is no clear winner. In my opinion, availability on XBL is moot when planning a LAN. LANs are about everyone gaming in the same place at the same time. I will concede that H3 has such mass appeal it is almost unavoidable at a LAN. I also love rocket race. As a matter of fact, I would attend a rocket race LAN.
Out of all this, of only one thing am I certain: Do not jack Deathslayer's goose. He's probably low on sleep these days which will make the situation doubly worse.
I'm just talking generically.
It's settled! I'm going to host a wii bowling lan. You better show up with your mii character created and have your wii remote fully charged "WITH" the remote strap securely fastened to your damn wrist at all times. I do not play, do not test me!! If you are creating a mii, you have to leave. If you decide to fire up a quick game of boxing, gtfo or I will punch you IRL.

I will provide mini pizza on bagels and Tang.
Hope to see everyone Jan. 11th
I would like to LAN H1 and H3. H3 is the easiest to LAN, it most resembles H1, and it is the most widely adopted in THX. Also lanning H3 is better than playing on XBL because we can setup games much faster on LAN. So, I think an H3 LAN is great, especially with the MLG gametypes which resemble the H1 gametypes we typically play.
I am game for a CoD5/4 or GoW2 LAN as well but feel like I am playing on XBL when we LAN CoD4 or GoW2. Also, the turn out probably won't be as high.
For all those reasons and several unmentioned, I prefer H3.
I can only LAN on the 27th-30th.
I'll probably come to whatever, so y'all decide.

If it's a Halo 1 LAN i'll be there! anything else and I may come by for a little while if nothing else is going on.
I came very close to having a H1 mini-LAN at my place tonight as Disavowed brought his BYO3 setup. I will probably do this after the first of the year.
BTW: Can we install H1 to our hdds? Ah. I guess it's a moot point if we've got to have the disc in the drive.
I'm unsure of the H1 to HDD possibility, but I assumed an H1 LAN would be best if folks brought their original Xboxen. That's assuming most THXers still have their old Xboxes, but surely we can muster up at least 4...
I sold my last original Xbox a few weeks ago.
I assume if you've purchased H1 through XBL marketplace then you'd be good to go without a disc. I bet the "copy to HDD" option won't be very useful, besides reducing load times.
I still have my Halo Xbox, if anyone wants to buy someone a Christmas present... ;)
Any update on the LAN possibilities? This weekend?
My copy of H1 is still floating around THX land, I left it at the lan JDizzle hosted a long time ago I do believe.
PC Lan anyone :)
