Biking Saturday 6/25 and 7/2
I apologize for not posting Yesterday\'s ride like I said I would. Technical difficulties on the forum prevented it. It\'s just as well...we decided to try a trail that Killer_D\'s dad recommended, but thanks to a brilliant series of navigation errors, Killer_D and I spent as much time hiking as we did riding. :- We missed a turn and we wound up climbing McKay Hollow Tr. where it comes out in the picnic area. Turns out that it is a switchback that goes straight up the side of Monte Sano. We climbed 550\' pushing and carrying the bikes with two rest stops on the way up. It wore me out, and I think Killer_D actually broke out in a sweat ;D I\'m a little sore today.
I\'ll take the blame for the navigational problems. I had a map, but it was too low res to clearly make out those trails. I had a bigger map, but it was only of the other side of the mountain. I thought Killer_D\'s dad was trying to kill us until we got to the top and figured out that we made a wrong turn. ::)
We don\'t have a ride planned for next weekend. The other half of the THX MTB club is going to get get SCUBA certified or something like that. Weather permitting, I still plan on riding, and will be scouting some trails that I am unsure of and want to take at my own pace. If anyone else is looking to go out, but was waiting for an easier ride, let me know and we can set something up...maybe the Family single track or Hayes.

lol, yeah dude craziness. Actually we didnt even start on the one my dad told me about. We never even were on the trail he was talking about at any poiint in time. You know how we were coming down the hill to Burrit (sp>?) apparently there is another trail off to the left before the bottom of the hill. That is the one he was talking about.
I will never do that trail again purposely. :)

Actually, I\'m probably going to try it again at some point, but I\'ll take arrowhead instead of natural wells, and I\'ll not miss the turn before the switchback. Remember how smooth and fast it was when we got to the single track at the bottom? I want to see if there\'s more trail like that.
I\'d still have to climb back out, but the other end of McKay near O\'Shaughnessy point might be gradual enough to ride most of it. It might even be fun to run the other way, dropping off of O\'Shaughnessy point heading back towards Burrit. You\'d have a long downhill run, then a long climb out at the other end (only about 400\' rather than 550 at the North Plateu). Plus, I think there is another trail that is under construction (Bucca?) that will eventually lead from McKay to goat trail at the bottom of Warpath Ridge. Last time I went down Warpath ridge, it wasn\'t anywhere near completion, but just imagine riding from Burrit all the way around the mountain through goat, keiths, logan point, sinks and out to bankhead. That would be an epic ride. I also want to take Flat Rock around the mountain at some point, but we\'ll have to plan ahead on that one, it could take most of a day.
It\'ll probably be awhile before I try it again though. I think I want to drop a few more pounds before I risk having to pull off another climb like that. Next weekend I\'ll probably run the goat trail if I don\'t hook up with anyone else to ride. Patrick told me that it was technical...so there\'ll be rocks and logs and other crap...the sort of terrain that I need to get better at handling, and need to take at my own pace.
Oh, I went by bicycles etc. and showed them the bent rear derailure hanger where I bashed the rear end into a rock. They didn\'t have any customers in the store at the time (unusual for a Saturday) , so they just threw it up on the rack and replaced the hanger for me right then and there. Told me that I was lucky and that there was no damage to the rear derailure and the wheel, charged me $10 for the part, and sent me on my way. My bike was fixed before I got home. Good service there.

Yeah I forgot about that. I wanna do that also.

The trail my dad told me about comes out at the LAnd Trust parking lot. We were so not on that trail. LOL Oh well...
So we are moderators of the MTB forum.... Just me and u Brick talking amongst ourselves. There is no one else to moderate. LOL
Sun Singletrack rims / Shimano XT hubs wheelset on the way!! ;D
You won\'t know how to ride a bike that doesn\'t hop around under you....I expect to be eating your dust on all downhills from here on out. 8)
