New theme feedback

Oc and I are working on things under the hood. Some of the things we are working on are going to be done on this production (live) site.

This "white" theme may or may not stay. Your feedback will kind of determine what we do from here with the looks of the website.

The best stuff isn't in the looks, but the functionality which hopefully you will start to see soon.

Oculus's picture

I actually like the white theme a lot. It's clean and a nice change from what we had previously.

Mintz's picture

I'm enjoying the white feel, and after you iron out some bugs (e.g. quotes are still dark), I think it'll be superior to the old site.

TheRedOwl's picture

I'm liking the white...but its definitely not finished.

As far as bugs go....everytime I make a post or edit a post I get taken to a white screen. Nothing else.

Go for it! I liked THX before...but if you're going for a cleaner, more refined look, then keep tweaking this one.

Going back to the black theme for a little while.

Midnight's picture

I prefer dark text on light backgrounds, but I think complete white is a little too contrasty. I think a very subtle gray or tan tint would be good. Thanks for continually improving the site.

Celery's picture

I was about to post what Jeff said. I hate the new look, I can hardly read anything without focusing 100% of my attention to detail...

I think if you are going with a white setup, do something like fat wallet.. two shades of gray tints per entry with white background. That would look the best, and also make the shout box look a little better than the wall of darkness going on now, shallowing souls one shout at a time.

Mintz's picture

If the color on the edges of the site were interchanged with the white in the middle, it would be a lot better. Read the GoW2 thread (which is all shifted to the right for some reason) to see what I mean.

rapture's picture

Middle section is going to stay white with dark text.

Edges will become darker, possibly black.

Will work on adding more contrast between comments.

Shoutbox is getting a major overhaul. No work will be going into improving current shoutbox.

Thanks for the feedbackzor. Help me know what the hardcore users like.

Also, I have a plan to "invert" the dark text on white theme to give you an option to have a light on dark theme. Same theme, just inverted.

Slayer's picture

I like the white background... very clean, and I think it matches the trend of a lot of gaming websites right now.

Jaywhy confirms problems with margins on browsers not using webkit (eg Excluding Chrome)

Oculus's picture

Maybe separators are needed between comments

Celery's picture

I concur on the separators. Boundaries between comments and articles on main page will help out tremendously!

Cyn's picture

I have trouble quickly finding where someone's post begins and ends. there needs to be some sort of difining line between people's posts.

Ditto that!

Do a SHIFT-F5 and check the comments now.

Mintz's picture

Comments look hawt now.

And I really, really would like the color of the side margins as the main section's background color. If not, I can deal with it the way it is now.

I'd like it if you could stay away from the black colors; it makes the site look more professional, and I don't feel as guilty leaving it up on the screen when I'm at work. When the site was black, it LOOKED like I was browsing a gaming site. Now, I might be browsing a gaming site or a programming forum!

Master Kim's picture

I think it looks ugly; at the least I feel it's a downgrade from the black.

I enjoyed the darker scheme because it gave THX a more unique look, and I would prefer reading white text against a dark background instead of black font against a white background (I don't know if people will agree with me if I say it's easier on the eyes).

Cyn's picture

Do you think you could put pictures in the side bars?

Cyn's picture

I don't like the pictures on the left?

rapture's picture

@Cyn: I don't understand what you are saying...

@MK: A white on black theme is planned. It will essentially be the inverse of this white them. Hang in there.

Master Kim's picture

@rapture: It's okay, I still love you no matter what.

Mintz's picture

I kinda miss the lighter-colored background on the sides. However, I like that the shout box and sides match colors. If they were both lighter-colored, that would be like chocolate and peanut butter.

TheRedOwl's picture

I like the dark gray color in the node-based shouts.

Mintz's picture

Could the color of highlighted text be changed? It's really hard to see what you've highlighted.

rapture's picture

@Mintz: Are you talking about the colored background of quoted text.

I can as attachments?

Mintz's picture

I mean when you highlight text (like this text in the parentheses) as if you're going to copy/paste it. It doesn't turn blue, it just makes the text blue, which is hard to see.

Mintz's picture

Could the signature/timestamp comments be a smaller font? For example, a post that looks like

Quote:
Do you think you could put pictures in the side bars?
--
"I'm a lead farmer, MotherF***er!!!"

Could look like

"I'm a lead farmer, MotherF***er!!!"

Also, could you assign default pictures to users who don't have profile pictures? I ask because Celery's lack of a profile picture throws me off when I just see white space next to his posts.

Celery's picture

Don't bring me into this!

Mintz's picture

Hahah, well it's not just you.

Mintz's picture

I noticed the highlighting of text is only an issue with Firefox. IE highlights it normally.
