Mediacom vs Comast Internet

I was wondering if anyone has ever used Mediacom Internet? These are my two options at my new house I'm moving into on the 26th. My brother is a current Mediacom Customer and he says he has never had any problems with them whatsoever, but he doesn't game online at all.

From the look of the prices, Mediacom gives more bang for the buck. I can get the 20/2 Mediacom Online Max for about the same price as comcast internet which is around $48 a month after the 6 month at $19.99. I also think they have a deal where you get a free $150 Amazon Giftcard which would be good for some new games or another deal with free modem and $100 cash back.

I also read if you are not bundled with comcast, they will reduce your bandwidth (pretty lame if that is true)

The Basic Mediacom which is same speeds is 19.99 for the year then like $35bucks later.

I've heard bad things from both companies, I have experienced some bad issues with connectivity using Comcast a while back.

My dad has Mediacom. I have Comcast. They both suck. I don't have major problems with Comcast, nor does he have major problems with Mediacom, but customer service is sub-par for both. I don't have very many connection drops. I'd say about once per six months I might have a connection drop for more than an hour.

Comcast is the most reliable HSISP I've had...better than BellSouth (now AT&T) and lightyears better than Knology. We run our VOIP over Comcast and haven't had any trouble with it. I think downtime has been great for the last 3-4 years.

I can't tell you about MediaCom.

Extras you get with Comcast are a free subscription to all the Gamespy services (which includes on of the major download sites...maybe FilePlanet.com) and free McAffee.

With Comcast, you can't access ESPN360.com.

I would say go with MediaCom to get the better upload speeds. However, if you are locked into a contract that isn't such a good deal.

One thing I like about Comcast is that I'm not locked into any contracts with them. I can add/remove services from them and never pay a penalty.

With 2Mbsp up, you might be able to get 15ms to Dallas which would be hot.

Yeah I figured they both were about equal on customer service, not many companies are great in that department. I don't think you have to have a contract with Mediacom. I'm just going to call both this week and see what deals they can give me.. yeah I know with Mediacom = ESPN360

Only thing I'm worried about is connection drops with mc.

Fileplanet.com would be nice to bypass the waiting times w/ comcast.

Just got off the phone with the horrible sells rep at Mediacom, took forever to get the freakin simple answer of how much is your Online Max Service. After about 10minutes I think I got an answer of:

Mediacom Online Max 20mbps is 59.95/month + $15.00/month if you dont have basic cable which comes out to $74.95/month. On top of DTV - tv/internet bill would be about $110 bucks.

Hmmmm, comcast $69 bucks for tv/internet is looking better and better. I don't have a plan on purchasing a HD TV anytime soon so DTV could wait a year.

MediaCom stinks big time. I had Cox in Phoenix, and moved to Pinal and have no choice. I have had almost daily outages from 3 minutes to 4 hours, requesting service so often that I have a private cell # for the techs, and they still do nothing. It's been 13 months. The refused to answer BBB, and no government agency will tell me who's in oversight of them. AVOID mediacom, period. I'm trying to get my Senator and Reps to change the law here so we can have competition....3 miles away they have Cox, so I guess I get to move to be happy.

I had mediacom for a while. It was constantly dropping. I'm much happier with my DSL.

If it rains, Mediacom drops. If it snows, if the wind is blowing the wrong direction, if it's too warm out.. etc. The modem goes into a searching phase. It does it at random and picks back up at random. When it's up, it's super fast. It's just that it's not consistent or reliable at all!
