2nd Annual HALOween LAN
I'm doing it again. The weekend of Halloween, we'll have a HALOween LAN at my place. Saturday, Nov. 1st, beginning at noon. BYOS rules apply. I'm particularly short on tables and chairs, so please bring those, too. H3 will be the primary game, w/ a good possibility of CoD4 making an appearance, as well, depending on what we feel like doing. Primarily, H3 objective-based MLG gametypes, with some rocket-race thrown into the mix.
As a reminder, please download the free Heroic Map pack, if you haven't already. This will open up some new maps at the LAN, and will add to the fun. Also, while you're at it, Cold Storage is free, but is only available by itself, so get it, too.
Spreadsheet w/ attendees and equipment here:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pc0RHkXvO21HI7xbpTIHPFw&hl=en
Equipment that you may not think to bring, but we'll need:
1. Power strips
2. Tables/chairs
3. Extra LCD display (for the Brickster)
I plan on being there.
Hmmm ...
You know, I was really on the fence about this one ... but Mintz is going to be there. Can't miss that.
I'm in.
- Old Guy
7 people confirmed today, besides myself. Spreadsheet of equipment and attendees here:

I updated it with who/what I know is coming so far. If you plan to attend, please add yourself, along with what you plan to bring. Thanks! Also, if anything changes, feel free to reflect that on the spreadsheet.
I'll be there fo sho!

I can't edit the spreadsheet. You have to allow that under the share menu.
It was set that anyone can view, but must sign in to edit. I fixed it now, though. You don't have to sign in to edit it.
Glad I could convince you, Brick!
Oh, Halloween colors on the spreadsheet, nice touch! Will the Halloween theme extend into your house, as well? Will you have Halloween cookies?
Yeah, uh, you'd have to ask Sarah that. She does the decorating. But I'm sure, if you're nice, she'll get you some Halloween cookies. She may even take you trick or treating in our neighborhood!
I'm afraid it may be too late to go trick or treating the morning after Halloween... but I'll happily collect the leftover candy that people couldn't hand out.
So I'm guessing the 32" HDTV isn't too big?
Well, you could always come over the night before, if you change your mind! ;)
The 32" HDTV will be fine. If Mike ends up coming, he'll probably bring a 42". We can accommodate.
So I'm guessing the 32" HDTV isn't too big?
Were you under the impression he lives in a bathtub?
I was just wondering, because I remember bringing my computer monitor in that upstairs room, and a 32" would have really crowded that space. But if accommodations will be made, nevermind!
Since my awesome game won't fit through his door, I'm just bringing my mediocre game.
See you guys there.
(Also, RB2 Halloweed night at our house isn't going to happen).
Your mediocre game better be ready for Midnight's mangina. He's a scaly man-fish!
I won't know until closer to the date. I have invested in a 19 inch Samsung monitor, though. So that will be nice if I do decide to make the trip.
And yet again, I have no Halo 3. So I'd have to borrow one/rent one if someone has an extra copy.
Was just thinking of how we did this at Josh's house last year and I had the thought: If every THX'er that games regularly hosted a LAN just once a year, we'd LAN every month.
I'm getting an apartment for my Fall semester next year, and I'm guessing I'll only be able to support about 12 people total. But I'm totally going to support 12 people.
This last Sunday, I asked the youth minister at my church if it would be possible to have a Halo LAN now and then at the church. He said he would find out about it. Chances are it will get shot down, but if it doesn't, I will be glad to host one there semi-regularly.

I'll need directions to your pace Josh. Also I have an extra Galo3 for goku I can bring

^ Sweet. Looking like I will be coming.
So i'll be bringing a small amount of cat5 (probably just enough for me), a monitor, 360, headphones, and maybe 1 or two extra power strips, because I have a few unused ones lying around.
we all gaming through the phone again?
And if I RROD again I'm totally blaming your house, D15AV0W3D
Sweet, are you gonna drive down here super-fast, Goku? Your Racecar Driver ID card should allow you speed all you want, right? And can you bring another cookie cake? Those are delicious.
Do you have a policy on bringing random friends, Josh?
I may. The SRDAoA (SUPER RACECAR DRIVERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) told me not to abuse my powers.
But If I'm getting me some Rosie's, I'll be driving me some...fast?
@ Hubcrap: I PM'd you directions, as well as my cell if you get lost.
@ Goku: No, I've slightly upgraded my ISP since last year. It's still wireless, though, so it isn't great...
@ Mintz: If he's a friend of yours, and you trust him, then he's a friend of THX, and he's welcome at my house.
That goes for everyone else, too. Feel free to bring a friend. But please, make sure it's YOUR friend, and preferably not a "friend of a friend". I trust you guys, and I know you'll use your best judgment.
FYI, I'm only going to be able to comfortably accommodate up to 20 players. The current count, if Mintz' friend comes, is 12.
It looks like we'll have a good turnout. I'm looking forward to it!
Oh sweet, I'm going to Rosie's with you. I'll let you quickly drive us there.
^ Sounds like a plan. I have to eat there everytime i come down...It's like a ritual.
Josh, I'll need directions as well. Thanks!

PM'd you the directions, Slayer.
Could you PM the directions to me, too?
It looks like I'll be there around noon and leaving around 6ish, possibly earlier.
I am 50/50 on coming, all depends if the Fiance has to study for a big test or not.. if so I have the afternoon to waste and I will come out to play Halo 3 for the first time! lol
I'll be there with bells on. Might arrive slightly before noon, because it's hard to plan for traffic exactly. I plan on leaving at like 10:00 so I should be there about 11:30-12. I'll be doing the speed limit to conserve gasoline.
@Hubcap- Make sure to bring your extra Galo 3 copy, pls.
Looks like I will be attending, she has a test on Monday so I'm free all Saturday afternoon! So I will need directions as well! I have a 360, controllers, 22' LCD thats it, no halo 3 or cod4.
@ Celery, glad you can make it, bro! I've got an extra copy of H3 you can use.
@ Mintz I'm PMing you and Celery directions as we speak...
Awesome, I'm excited. Make sure you have plenty of leftover Halloween candy for me!
Can I get directions also?
The spreadsheet says someone has a 22" monitor that I can use, but I'm not sure who posted that. My thanks to who ever it is. What's your ETA, and do I need to bring a 360/VGA cable?
- Brick
- Brick
@BRICK: I've got the extra 22".
Do you have cables? If not, then we might can get around that by using the HDMI out on your box and HDMI in on my LCD (although I've never tried it). Let me know if you'd like me to try it. Also, might be able to get around you having to bring big speakers as the monitor has audio in (from the 360) and audio out (to your headphones or external speakers).
When am I getting there? Unsure. The wife is hosting a baby shower and she may need me to help out. That said, I'm planning on getting to the LAN as close to noon as possible. You're welcome to come by before then and pick up equipment.
@Disavowed: How are we doing on table space? I've got a 6' table I could bring.
I don't have a VGA adapter or HDMI cables. If you have a spare HDMI then lets give that a try. If it doesn't work, I can make a road trip and pick up a VGA adapter. If you don't have a spare HDMI, I'll run out and get an adapter this afternoon, or maybe in the morning.
And thanks again.
- Brick
I might hit up some disc golf in the morning if anyone is interested in throwing some before the lan. I plan on making it out after I finish throwing, pretty close to noon. I can probably stay until 6:00ish, not sure what are plans are for the night.
And thanks again.
- Brick
I've got an extra HDMI cable. I'll test it out tonight. If it doesn't work, we'll look into getting you a VGA cable.
I'll be there

Beauty is just a light switch away
@Brick: HDMI works. I'll bring the cable and the monitor.
Unsure what you are going to do about audio. You bring your own setup that will accept L/R RCA.
Or you can bring a L/R RCA to 3.5" headphone adapter and then bring headphones or an external speaker setup. The biggest catch here will be the RCA to 3.5" converter.
I had a great time. Thanks for hosting Disavowed.
I'd like to LAN more H3 with you guys...especially the MLG gametypes.
Another great BYOS LAN. Let's have another soon.
I uploaded pics to the THX page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=176800&id=23211895393
Doesn't look like the live video streaming worked out. There seems to be a problem with the qik.com service. I'll post back if we ever get the videos back (they were uploaded to somewhere).
B.net says we got 16 games of H3 in yesterday. GG.
Good pics, rap! Thanks again for hosting, Josh! I had a great time. I've got my equipment set-up/tear-down routine down to about 10 minutes, so we should definitely do this again sometime soon. Of course, playing H3 and not having to worry about the ratio of people to TVs to Xboxes really helps. It's a lot more fun to play H3 on a LAN with people you know.
And Goku wants to come down and go to Rosie's.
Great time. Thanks for hosting, Josh.
I had a great time, too. I really enjoyed having everyone over. I think the MLG objective-based game-types, along w/ the occasional rocket-race, help balance things out in H3. I may try to tweak some of the MLG versions of certain maps to include some of the equipment that was missing. All in all, though, they made for some good games.
Let's do this again soon! Midnight made a great point earlier in this thread. If every THXer had a LAN once a year, then we'd have a LAN to go to every month.
DeathSlayer's redonkulous K/D spread:
My favorite moment was during MLG CTF on The Pit, when someone on my team (I think it was Bork or Cracky) had the flag, but didn't know where to take it. He was heading down the shotgun hall, away from our base, and we were all trying to tell him where to go, but he just wasn't getting it. So Midnight did what he knew he had to do for the good of the team. He assassinated his own teammate and capped the flag himself. Classic!
@DeathSlayer: sorry about jackin' your goose, man.
Video from the LAN:
The rest of the videos didn't turn out well. Qik says their servers are fixed so maybe we can stream/record videos later...at another LAN party...which you, yes you, could host...soon...like in a week or two.
I didn't know your camera could capture slow motion, rap. I wish my phone could bend the fourth dimension.
