I was literally one paragraph into reading an article on HDTVs when I thought, "This sounds like something Jeff would write". I glanced at the author, and lo and behold, Jeff was the author. Good article!

Costco's return policy alone

Costco's return policy alone would make it worth buying a TV from them. My mom bought an HDTV from them, and a year or so later, it developed a row of dead pixels. She brought it back with her original receipt, got a full refund, and bought an HDTV that was about 7" bigger for the same price.

They've since cracked down on that policy. Their "anytime you're dissatisfied" warranty no longer applies to electronics such as TVs. Now they flatly extend the device's warranty for an additional year on top of the manufacturer's warranty. This is still a great policy.

That's a shame. Glad my parents took advantage of it while they still could. A lot of other people did too, apparently...
