Rumor: 3G iPhone due June 9

The 3G iPhone will be announced June 9, the likely date of Apple CEO Steve Jobs' keynote at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference, analysts said in research notes on Thursday.

A new black glossy case is also assumed to be the standard on the new phones.

In addition to a 3G iPhone release in early June, the 2.5G model could have a "minor casing change" and a price drop to between US$299 and $349, compared to the current $399, wrote Shaw Wu, an analyst with American Technology Research, in a research report.

Praise the Lord! I've been waiting for months for this. My text message bill from T-Mobile is killing me, but any changes to my plan are considered a 2-year contract extension. I've been planning to change providers when the 3G iPhone is released. Glad to see it's coming soon.

Usually, as long as your bill will increase they will let you add to your plan when it comes to text messages and such for no extra contract extension.

I haven't elevated the issue above the standard customer service rep, but I had a lengthy conversation about it and they were very clear: I cannot buy the standard 200 text messages for $3/month without adding 2 years to my contract.

"Apple and AT&T will cut $200 off the price of the iPhone 3G when it arrives this summer. The phones should hit at $399 and $499 for 8 and 16-gigabyte versions and the subsidy should drop the price to as low as $199."
