The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.

Today it was announced that Gears of War 2 is coming out in November. The original Gears of War was a fun game, but had it's problems. What do you expect to be added, changed, or removed from Gears of War 2?

It wasn't until I had played
It wasn't until I had played the game for several months that I realized that there was a bit of shooters lag in GoW when you were moving. Even the slightest bit of movement by your character threw of the trajectory of your bullets --- either by a wider spray pattern or projectile lag. I hope the bullet's trajectories are more consistent throughout the gameplay.
I never liked the way the Sniper Rifle’s bullets traveled. Perhaps this had to do with the fact that I usually am moving when I fire a Sniper Rifle and so that path was thrown off. But, I’m pretty sure we’ve all griped about lining up a headshot with the GoW Sniper only to see the bullet pass through the enemy’s head with no damage.
GoW was a close-combat shooter. I actually likened it to a close-combat fighter game --- kind of like a 3D Mortal Kombat. It's from the third-person perspective. It's got fatalities. The weapons are designed for mid-to-short range. The cover system is designed for stealth and close combat. We were encouraged to fight with our fists and to use melees.
I'd like to see GoW2 become a medium-range shooter like Halo 2/3. But that's just my gaming preference. I doubt Epic is going to remove the revolutionary cover system. Still, I’d like to see quicker kills at mid-range.
I'd like to be able to jump. I don't know why. I guess it feels like I've got more freedom when I am able to jump. Again, that's a preference. I'm guessing that there's not enough buttons on the controller for a "cover system" and a jump system.
I'd like the option to stay in the first-person perspective. GoW was the first game where I didn't notice the third-person perspective. But, I’d rather stay in the first-person perspective and zoom out to the third-person perspective when under cover. Halo 3 does this. You zoom out to third-person perspective when you pick up a Gravity Hammer, Missile Pod, Turret, etc.
I hope the online networking issues are sorted out. Granted part of the problem is the end user. But, then again, these networking issues seem to only happen in certain XBOX 360 games. This makes me think that XBOX Live and the game devs could fix the issue is they invested enough resources.
I’d like to see bigger team sizes. We could only play 4-v-4 in GoW. I remember that there were a few times when we had to turn away THX’er because we had more than 8 wanting to play in the same game.
I liked the pseudo game lobby system that GoW had while searching for MP games. I hope this is improved in GoW2 to provide faster results and more details about the game we are about to enter.
I hope the MP achievements are not so dang hard to unlock. In GoW the MP achievements were for ranked matches only. Perhaps do what CoD4 did and make the achievements for the SP only?
I want a Deathmatch gametype with unlimited respawns.
If I’m going to be forced to sit out until the end of a round after my death, I want better spectator modes. The stationary spectator camera angles were just about useless.

I think there should be
I think there should be bigger team sizes also. (6v6 would be nice) They should also make more levels like gridlock and fuel depot and no levels like mausoleum because maps like that if it is down 1v1 you spend 4 out of the 5 mins finding the guy, and if you don't find him then you have to play the map again.
Improvements with the active reloads would be good also, mainly the sniper, it gets annoying when a noob can pick up a sniper and just down you 3 times. I would also like to see the splash dmg be improved...the torque bow seems to have more splash dmg then then boomshot and the nades it seems.
With the sniper i agree with rapture, when my bullet goes right through someones head and doesn't kill them i question why i play this game. I think they should improve the walking shot with the sniper also.
With the new unreal engine there should be a level where the whole ground is water...but that would just do me more bad than good b/c i would just stare at the water while i was walking through it.
I would like to see
I would like to see capability for 6v6. I don't usually like games with 16+ people, but the 12 that COD4 has standardized in its normal matchmaking (non ground war) seems to be a sweet spot.
No more inconsistent weapons. Shotty and Boom Shot were very difficult to use with consistency.
I also would like the option of a standard deathmatch infinite respawn gametype.
Things I don't want to change
---------------------------
Epic's map designs. I just like how they do things.
Grenades. I like that you only get two and they are very powerful.
Jump in/out coop multiplayer. So far GoW is the only game to do it right.
Absolutely can't wait!
Absolutely can't wait! Biggest game of 2008 in my opinion.
I would like more of the same, but with slight improvements in the medium distance weapons like rapture was talking about.
With a little bit of lag, I'm left with only 2 options: Very close distance weapons aka Shotgun, or long distance or power weapons like the TorqueBow/Sniper/Hammer of Dawn..etc. The reason is that the enemy has enough opportunity to run up towards me without getting hurt because my weapon is useless with a bit of lag. Some teams do very well by just switching to shotties and yelling bonzai!!, running towards you like starved banshees. That sucks when your a team that plays defensively or with some sort of strategy and lancers.
If you think about it, the weapon effectiveness goes in an upside down bell curve according to distance. If they could flatten it out a bit towards the middle, it'd be cool.
If they can tweak the netcode to optimize these medium range weapons: Lancer, Brute Shot, Pistol, and add maybe 6v6, I'll be a happy gamer. If they give us a GOW 1 clone with different maps... I'll have to admit, I'll still be nearly just as happy.
Please don't nerf anything, just tweak how the skill weapons work under lag.
I actually don't mind the bullet spread rapture was talking about when moving. It's part of the reason we own almost every newb to the game, they don't realize that standing still gives a steady stream of bullets rather than shifting around too much. I think this was actually programmed in rather than an after effect. It also creates an interesting dynamic between the choice to stand still and take someone down, or get hit in the head by the snipers.

"Oculus is just this guy, you know?"
I can't wait for this game.
I can't wait for this game. It's going to be the best game of 2008. Hopefully they make the environment better, add some new kick ass weapons. And make new characters like a new Carmine, as it sounds like in the trailer. I also wanted to see a bit more in the trailer but I guess they didn't want to show much or had nothing to show except a chainsaw battle scene.

If GoW2's gameplay is going
If GoW2's gameplay is going to be like the original GoW, will that be good enough?
Will GoW2 = GoW1 + different maps + a few different weapons?
I don't think that will be good enough to keep me playing the game.

I like GoW gameplay. Some new maps, new campaign, new weapons, and new gametypes will keep me interested for quite a while.
Isn't that pretty much
Isn't that pretty much exactly what people said about Halo -> Halo 2?
H2 is definitely different
H2 is definitely different than H1. H2 is not that different than H3. I guess the delta between the games isn't as important as the vector.
Hey dudes, its been a long
Hey dudes, its been a long time, I'd really just like more balanced weapons so everything doesn't come out to a random shotgun battle at the end. I really hated that weapon it just didn't feel right with the distance it could be effective at. Also the game used a system where the headshots with weapons besides the sniper were random, I guess I would really like to see more skill weapons, such as a beefer pistol capable of taking someone down with headshots. Also the melee system could be tweaked a bit in regards to speed and power, for instance when all people would do is run around with the pistol meleeing.
I think Gears2 needs some
I think Gears2 needs some new characters for multiplayer.
Notice how the only locust main character was GENERAL RAMM? Then non-main locust were playable.
The cog characters are only made up of the main cogs. What happened to the cogs with the white helmets? (partially white, one got shot in the head after Delta squad planted resonator)
Or better yet, character editing. Mix the different armor, faces, helmets, goggles, bandanas, hair, skin color and whatever else.It makes it easier to identify the enemies you're hunting down,or identifying your team mates without pressing the objective button.

Whoa. Just checked out the Unreal Engine 3 demo with GoW2 content. Looks really impressive. The water is the best real-time water I've seen. The destructable objects are cool as well. GoW2 is going to be a technical beast.
