THX Camping

Had a great time camping over the weekend w/ Midnight, Oculus, Rap, Critter, and our S/Os.

I think the most memorable moment was rapelling off a cliff behind the Lodge on Monte Sano, during a wedding. The wedding guests were probably distracted by Critter when he harnessed up and jumped off the cliff directly behind where the bride and groom were standing. As we hiked back to camp, I pointed out that they may have been annoyed by our presence, to which Midnight said, "If you're having an outdoor wedding on top of a mountain, you have to be prepared. You might see a bird shit, and you might see someone rapelling off a cliff."

We followed up the rapelling with some rock climbing, using the top-rope belay method for safety. My leg cramped up half-way to the top (I still made it, somehow), Midnight employed the never-before-seen "knee method", and forty7after required the belay-er plus 3 of us to let her down after her climb.

sorry we didn't get any pictures of the first day/night of camping (with EA and Erin). It appears we didn't break out the camera until the rappelling started.

I also maxed out my monthly space on flickr with that upload. So it will be a month before I can put the BDay Lan Pictures up. (Unless I decide to pay for a pro account)

I went rappelling with some friends on Monte Sano one time, and there appeared to be some kind of tree hugging cult or something meeting up there. There were about 20 - 30 people gathering near the cliff y'all are talking about. At first they simply crowded around each other and looked like they were laying hands on someone... but then they suddenly dispersed and literally began hugging trees and touching their heads to the trunks. It was, in fact, rather scary. We took pictures... lots of pictures. Unfortunately I do not have any of them.

Anyway... I love repelling and rock climbing. Let me know if y'all go again. We need to go caving again, that was awesome!

I agree. We need to go caving...especially since we've got several people available to go that were not around/available the last time we went.

I'm all about some caving. That's one of the coolest things I think there is to do around here.

Rappelling and climbing were a blast. I'd definitely like to do that again as well.
