The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
This weekend Major Nelson posted the top 10 Xbox Live titles for the past week (measured in number of unique users). If you keep up with this list you know that the top two titles don't change very often. Before the release of Halo 3, Gears of War was solidly in #1 each week. Since the release of Halo 3 took #1 Gears has been #2. No more. This week COD4 has upset GoW (by how much we do not know). With Infinity Ward already discussing the first round of patches for COD4 and huge demand selling out many stores on launch week, it's reasonable to say that this change may be semi-permanent. Word of mouth is also selling many copies of COD4, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
If you're interested in the upcoming COD4 patches, here's an executive summary:
Additions / Features:
* Added Kill cam to Airstrike bombs and Claymores.
* Addition of Host Migration so if Host Leaves auto-chooses next best host.
* Tweaked the following Oldschool Mode settings based on feedback:
- Added Unlimited Sprint
- Increased Magazine Size
- Added Ragdoll Cam
* Addition of New "N0M4D" Control Scheme.
Optimizations / Tweaks:
* Identify party by background color (in Lobby).
* Optimized server selection for first match for better connections.
* Improved network performance for 18 player games.
* Optimized 'Chase Cam' when Spectating.
* Fixed Playlist error when attempting to join from other games.
* Handle Corrupt Create A Class data instead of kicking player.
Unfortunately, no release date has been set for the upcoming patch. However, given the frustrating nature of some bugs, we all can hope it's soon--very soon. Major Nelson and E also discussed last week's XBL troubles on Larry's podcast this weekend. Apparently the problem was elusive and not based on user load, but E is confident they squashed it for good.

I'll be joining you all in
I'll be joining you all in the CoD4 frenzy quite soon...after Thanksgiving :)
I still am unable to play
I still am unable to play COD4 on XBL. It was the same issue I had at the Falwell LAN party. I connect to an online game, it takes me into the lobby, and I get kicked for no reason as soon as the game starts. It has to do with my account, b/c when BattleItch let me try her acct on my 360, using a memory card, I was able to play just fine.
I wonder if this is something that may be fixed with the update, or if I'm just screwed for good...
Looks like the last bullet
Looks like the last bullet under optimization may apply to you. There are also several tricks you can look up for deleting hidden data on your 360 that can become corrupt. I might start by deleting my XBL profile, deleting COD4 game saves (or copying to a mem card), and deleting all COD4 patches (look up the controller button sequence to access this in the system blade). Then I'd restart COD4, apply patches, and then recover gamertag from XBL.
That might be a goatrope, but it also might work.
I've tried all you
I've tried all you mentioned, except the COD4 patches (which I didn't know could be deleted, since I looked for it on 360 Memory blade for it and didn't find it). I'll try removing the patch, and downloading it again. Since I originally downloaded it when my connection was much slower, it may be corrupt.
If that doesn't work, I'll try doing all the above at once, and see if it does the trick.

Thanks, Midnight. I'm going to try this when I get home. Will let you know if it is successful.
Tried the cache clear code
Tried the cache clear code last night. A message popped up on my Xbox 360, "Do you want to run system maintenance on your Hard Drive?", I selected yes, and it ran for about 3 seconds, and said it was done. Hardly long enough to have really done anything, except perhaps scan for fragmented sectors on my HDD, but no noticeable "maintenance" was done. I was still unable to play COD4 on XBL w/out getting kicked from the lobby immediately once the game starts. Ran it again, and rebooted, just to make sure, still no success.
Best I can come up with, is that when I first booted COD4, and signed into XBL, it asked me if I wanted to install an update for it. I did, but that was back before 3G came out, and it took forever. W/ the slow and sketchy EDGE connection, perhaps the data it dwnld'd was corrupt.
This COD4 XBL corrupt
This COD4 XBL corrupt profile issue (aka "Game Lobby Closed" or "Player Kicked" issue) is killing me. Now that I've finished the campaign (which is amazing, btw) I want to play some COD4 multiplayer. You'd think the #2 title on XBL would get their act together and churn out the update that is supposedly going to fix it, which I found out from InfinityWard.com, is an update that will come AFTER the update mentioned in this article. Update #1 doesn't do jack sh*t for me if I can't play the fawking game online to begin with. And they don't even have a release date for it. Which means update #2 is that much further away. I seriously want to line up all the employees at Infinity Ward and kick them all in the nuts. I can play ANY other title on XBL, no issues. But the game I want to play most, I can't, and probably won't be able to until sometime next year. Fawking wonderful.
A shadier person would
A shadier person would advise you to purchase a 120 GB HD from somewhere with a liberal return policy, run HD transfer with EA's disc and cable, and then return the old but clean HD as defective...but I would never advise that.

Ran into a COD4 player on
Ran into a COD4 player on the Infinity Ward forums who found a work-around for the corrupt class data issue. I asked him how, and he revealed it to me. I'm going to give it a try this afternoon, so if anyone is playing later on tonight, perhaps I'll be able to join!
The way he got around it, is apparently, if you join a free-for-all match AND get host, then the corrupt class data is ignored, and you won't get kicked. You stay in the room and keep playing games until you reach Level 4, then quit, go into your custom classes, change them all to "Default", then you can join matches no problems, even if you're not host. The catch is that you MUST be host until you reach Lvl 4, and you have to play with default only classes thereafter, instead of custom ones. But I suppose it's better than not playing at all.
This explains why, every time I tried to play a game, I could join a match almost instantly on XBL, but as soon as the screen pops up where you choose a class, I got kicked, and the message "Lobby Closed" and "Player Kicked" messages popped up. I just wasn't getting host.
Anyone know if you can play
Anyone know if you can play a Free-for-all match on COD4 w/ a group of friends, and whether or not the player that hosts the pre-game lobby group would automatically get host for the game? If so, this could be as simple as 5 of us getting onto XBL at the same time, and playing a few deathmatches until I reach a Lvl 4, instead of me having to use the "hit-or-miss" method to try to get host.
After someone joins your
After someone joins your party you can no longer play free for all.
