In honor of the M203 grenade launcher in Call of Duty 4 (often called the noob tube by frustrated gamers who can't form an effective strategy to combat a player using it) here is a video of an actual M203 in action, in the hands of my wife.
At The Basic School every company holds an event where spouses, friends, and family come to work with you and get to look at and and sometimes use real military equipment. At this event my wife, gamertag BattleItch, gets to fire an M203 grenade launcher attached to an M16. She aims at the right lateral limit sign to the right of the screen (notice the puff of orange smoke when the training round impacts) and manages to hit it. She was either very good or very lucky, because aiming the M203 at that range with the leaf sight is very difficult. Unfortunately, that sign is one of the few things on the range you are not supposed to shoot. She forgot that part. GG.

GG BattleItch.
CoD4 rant. How fun do you think CoD4 would be if everyone ran around with grenade launchers? It'd be a different game in a similar way that Rockets-only in the Halo games make the games very different. It brings everyone's K/D ratio toward 1:1 when everyone uses them. I hope CoD4 doesn't go there. Everyone with Grenade Launchers on Vacant wouldn't be a game that I'd like to play.
The Noob Combo in Halo 2 was called such because it was an easy and effective way for anybody of any skill level to get a kill on anybody of any skill level. The same goes for Grenade Launchers in CoD4, BF2, Ghost Recon, any of the Tom Clancy games, etc.
Can someone tell me how to deal with a Grenade Launcher on a map like Vacant?
I can't counter a Grenade Launcher. I can only try to avoid it.

How about this, I can't use a grenade launcher to save my life... the noob tube pwns me.
In Americas Army, the M203 was extremely good on many maps. I got to where I was pretty good at using it. But I haven't played that game in a long time. Plus, it's PC so...
The important thing to
The important thing to remember is that when someone uses a grenade launcher they sacrifice any other weapon attachments (and I think they sacrifice perk 1 as well). I'd say take advantage of that with a longer range weapon and a red dot, and try to avoid medium combat situations. The grenades also have a minimum arm distance, so the only way to kill someone with it in extreme close quarters is to hit them in the body with the grenade itself, which is very hard (and generally lucky if you pull it off). You could take advantage of this with a submachinegun and stay in extreme close quarters. They also only have two grenades. Then they're advantage is gone and they're stuck with iron sights. They get more when they respawn, but that means they dies, which means someone on your team took advantage of their weakness and killed them.
The M203 is only good in COD4 at medium ranges. I don't use it anymore because I can get more overall kills with a red dot, which is good at all ranges. I used to use it very often when I was unlocking challenges early on. However, it is not a direct fire weapon, it has a lot of drop and makes a rainbow style arc (an indirect fire weapon). This means that when I used to stand at the back of the house next to stone bridge on Overgrown and kill someone with a M203 that's standing in front of the barn, I had to aim so that the very bottom horizontal line of the M203's sight was still above their head. To make that shot is not noobish. I deserve that kill. Estimating drop between elevation changes is also tricky (shooting from a trench into a window on a building above you). You have to hit a tiny sliver of window with an indirect fire weapon--that's not easy.
I view weapon selection like economics: the best solution comes when everyone does what is best for themselves. If the noob tube is so easy to get kills with then everyone would use it over a red dot or silencer, but they don't. Those who do use it make a tough decision to sacrifice other advantages that we don't criticize people for (red dot, grip, ACOG, silencer, perks). The only other solution is for everyone to hold back on using the effective weapons, which doesn't work because eventually someone is selfish and then everyone must follow suit in order to compete.
I view complaints about the noob tube much like complaints about snipers and campers. On rare occasions the game has a flaw that is forcing you into a non-competitive situation (headquarters comes to mind, although even that can be somewhat countered by strategy), but most of the time the frustration comes from the fact that you are being killed repeatedly by someone who is implementing a more effective strategy than your own. At least in my case, I think I'm usually not good enough; I don't blame the person for selecting an effective weapon and strategy. I ask myself how I can implement a better strategy to combat the situation.
I understand the frustration. I get frustrated about it as well. I just think the way we deal with the frustration and who we blame makes all the difference.

Holy cow. That's awesome.
Holy cow. That's awesome. Good shooting BattleB!
As far as shooting a real M203's go, I'd hope that my kill/death ratio would be far greater than 1:1 ;) As for CoD, I haven't yet found my perfect gun setup. The M16 with silencer seems to be one of the better choices for me, but I'm still jealous of people who can make good use of the sniper rifle. The grenade launcher is in fact difficult to use, and with only a couple rounds to fire off, it's a big trade off for giving up those perks that can help get a larger kill streak.

I've picked up P-90s that appeared to have laser sights, but I don't think they were activated. How/when do you get a laser sight? Does it project a visible beam onto the enemy or only infrared (visible through NVGs).

Heh, people used to unleash all the four letter words when I would use the RPGs on them and take out two or three players with one rocket. They would call me a rocket whore, but consistently firing it accurately requires skill and a quicker reaction time than running around with fire-arms. It's much harder for me to kill you with my rocket than it is for you to headshot me with your rifle.
I never used grenade launchers while I was playing the beta when I could have RPGs which were also effective against helicopters.

I am not able to consistently use the RPG effectively against personnel. I'd be interested to see how you do it.

complete rubbish, you only have to aim the noob tube in the general direction, it’s got the name noob tube because the noobie’s find it so easy to use. Once noob tubers are out of grenades they normal suk with a fire-arm

In addition to having a completely unfounded argument, you totally misread Master Kim's post. He was referring to the RPG.

Now i think the only way to easily kill a noob tuber is snipe him with this following combo.
dragunov with acog
any pistol
perk one is bandoiler
perk two is stopping power
perk three is deep impact.
i pick this because you don't have that big of a blow back so you can do a rapid fire and you realy don't have to steady the barrel.

WOw great comments from everyone. COD4 is the best game out there. I have no problem with people using the noob tube. I am a level 45 with a kill to death ratio of 1.49. I think that it part of the game, i bet each and everyone of you have used it before so should not be hating on it. I think the key to being good is stop going back to play halo3 it messes you up really bad. Use UAV Jammer i dont care what u say. I have a 27 killing spree without using any kind of air strike. SO UAV jammer, steady aim, so u can aim right, and RPG is the perks to use. The gun of choice is the m16 or m14 or G
