H3 Video and Media Onslaught

I just finished watching all the media I've missed this week concerning H3:
-Making of the diorama
-Cinorama
-Read the three b.net articles on the Forge

I think the Forge and the filesharing offered by H3 may be a bigger deal than we all realize right now. Millions of people are going to have almost total control over creating H3 gametypes and editing maps. When you unleash that amount of people on a problem, you get solutions you never dreamed of. In 3 months we may not be playing any standard maps anymore. Perhaps fan favorite maps and gametypes will emerge, making the creator famous in the community. Who knows, either way, I think between the Forge and the video saving/sharing tool H3 is going to take some turns we never anticipated.

The guy on the Cinorama vidoc that mentioned using the Forge, video saving, and voice acting to reenact Mac Beth may not be far off!

Simply put: wow.

The respawn system control alone is a huge plus. I've always looked at these types of MP features as the cake, whereas, the campaign is the icing.

I don't see what Forge is going to do for me. Even if it does something for me, I think it'll be a logistical nightmare what with the filesharing and such.

Have you played with 7 other players and spawned tanks on their heads yet? I think you should hold off on forming an opinion until then.

I think that instead of stock maps and gametypes the community may settle on some smart guy's custom map and gametype as a favorite.

Instead of slayer proz we may be playing Oculus's custom oddball gametype on EA's custom High Ground map.

I think we all had problems with some of the H2 maps/gametypes. Being able to fix them will be a godsend in my opinion.

That being said, we will probably have to learn the included Bungie gametypes pretty well because that will be what most people will want to play. I'm not going to play some random newb's gametype that he created, with some wacky spawn system / weapons that only he knows about.

I will, however play "Bungie recommended" gametypes that are featured to the masses. I'm unsure if small tweaks will be enough to become a "bungie recommended" gametype, and these small tweaks are what we THX'ers are more likely to enjoy.

Among THX'ers though, I will definitely like to play strange or funny gametypes/maps, but I will mostly probably be playing gametypes that are slightly changed to our liking. ie. weapon spawning, spawning, weapon placement.

Something I thought of when reading those bungie articles: We will be able to fully study how the default maps/gametypes are laid out. Can't figure out the spawns on High Ground? Jump into Forge and figure them out for yourself.

I would really like to try and replicate the weapon spawn system of Halo 1. Forcing a flow to the game that will play *somewhat* similarly to what we remember... someone yells "rocket's up" and both teams are working their way towards that side of the map. Bust out your timers.

Perhaps these map changes will be great for LANs, but not that big of a deal against random people over XBL.
