HALOween -- All Hallows' Eve LAN Party (BYOS)

A BYOS H3 LAN would be sweet. The actual night of Halloween might pose problems for some people (although not myself).

Definitely interested!

Stealing my thunder? No way. The idea of BYOS LANs is that they can be small, spontaneous, and simple to plan. Hopefully more people will offer up spaces to play.

I'm interested in the LAN and I will attend if I am here that weekend. Sign me up for one BYOS station.

Depends on whether or not I'm still working at the Space and Rocket Center. Will have better deets as the date approaches.

My only question is, being that BYOSLANs are spontaneous-friendly, why plan all the way in October?

Nothing's concrete yet. This is just to get a feel for who would be interested. As I indicated before, if this generates enough interest, it will become a confirmed event. I'm not asking anyone for a full commitment at this juncture. Just keep it in mind, and we'll get a firm idea as Halloween approaches.

I'd love to come to a BYOS, but I'm gonna have to miss this one. I'll be in Orlando on the 27th, and on the 3rd I'll be at a local fundraiser for Free The Hops (group working to change the Alabama beer laws). With a name like Flying Monktoberfest I've gotta be there. I should be in for the next BYOS though.

I say that we do it pre-Halloween (err...HALOween) on the 27th.

That way THX'ers can support the Free the Hops event later on Nov 3rd.

For those that can't make it...we'll have another one soon. I may find time to have one at my place.

I'm all about Freeing the Hops, and so far Rap and Midnight suggested the weekend right before Halloween. The 27th it is, then. Spread the word amongst the extended THX network. 12-16 players would be optimal. If we don't get at least 8, it may not be worth it. So commit now so that I can get a head-count, and we'll go from there.

I'm in. Provided i can crash at someones house at least on Saturday night, since I don't want to drive teh 1.5 hours home at 2 or so in the morning. I'm small and I don't make too much noise or take up much space. Just ask Jeff.

I can also probably bring 2 guests along as well, and they'll both have thier set-ups, etc.

But I'll def be there. Any chance i can snag one of your extra monitors so I don't have to lug my CRT down again!? I/my gas mileage would be eternally grateful.

Just called the Gamestop in the Target shopping center in Jones Valley about the Guitar Hero 3 release on October 28th. They are doing a midnight release on Saturday (the night of the LAN) and will be open from approximately midnight to 1 AM. I think at midnight if we're still LANing I'll probably pack up my things and go pick up my copy of GH 3. If there is more interest than just me then anyone and everyone is welcome to go with me.

What time does the LAN start?

I'll totally go with you, Jeff. I'll even bring my Guitar so we can both rock out at the same time ;p.

Start time is noon. Setup should be quick, and gaming will commence shortly thereafter.

Gamestop for GH3 at midnight is a great idea.

My headcount right now is: Midnight, EA (arriving late), Mikeulus, Goku, D3ATHsLAYER, Slayer, DirtyJ, and myself. That makes 8. We are at a critical threshold. Any fewer players, and it won't be nearly as fun. At least 8 makes for even-sided teams, and a good number for some of H3s larger maps, not to mention Rocket Race! If you guys know of anyone who would like to come, then bring them!

Goku, are your two friends coming?

My friend and I will be arriving Saturday around noon. Prolly a little on the early side. We're planning to crash at your place on Saturday and then leave out Sunday morning.

@ Goku, of course it's still cool, glad you guys are going to make it!

@ Everyone: Aside from your setup, some outstanding needs that you may or may not have considered are tables, chairs, network cables, and power strips. Bring those if you have them, and it should make for an enjoyable gaming event!

I would like to come, if it won't make teams uneven. I've made some gametypes that I want to try out in a 4v4/5v5 environment. Would anyone be opposed to my attendance? I'll have to be late since I live almost 3 hours away, but I can be there in the early afternoon. If teams will be uneven, then I'd rather just stay home ;p

I could make it from around 6pm to about 10pm, if you need more people.

It's impossible to concretely plan attendance for even teams, since just one kink will throw it off, so I say if you're interested in coming then come.

What Midnight said. Sar1n, you're more than welcome. We'll figure out the teams as we go, and I'm sure they'll change around some. Mlntz, the more the merrier.

I was reminded today about an event that I had completely forgotten about. Apparently, I am going to Birmingham on Sat to see the Pompeii exhibit. So I will be unable to attend this LAN. Sorry about that.

Outstanding needs: LONG Cat5 cables, and an extra switch. If you've got those, bring 'em, and we'll sort out whether or not it's needed during setup. Better to have too many than not enough.

Yeah. I don't have any long ethernet cords. I may have like a 6 ft one. I've gotta find it later. I think Lochlin (my friend that's coming) has a lot of extra cable, so i'll bring whatever I can.

Midnight will have one of my 22" LCDs (without VGA cables) and my 16-port switch.

Goku: if for some reason the LCD doesn't display a picture but has power, unplug the power cord from the back of the LCD and plug it back in.

Mike and I were watching WHNT New Channel 19 (you might remember them as the "videogame addiction" news channel) and they use Madden NFL 2008 to match up two football teams that were playing that day. Talk about Double Standards, eh?
