Halo2 Tournament at Chili's -- Tues. 8/28/07
Next Tuesday, Aug. 28th, there will be an H2 Tourney @ the Chili's on University. It is being sponsored by Budweiser, and entry fee is $5 per player. From what I understand, it will be a double-team tourney, open to the public, and all proceeds go to benefit St. Judes Children's Hospital, which recently opened a Clinic @ H'ville Hospital. Start time is around 8pm.
This is all 2nd-hand info., as it was passed on to me by my brother. He is a bartender at Chili's, so it's pretty accurate, but there were other details that he wasn't so sure of, like prizes, gametypes, etc. From what he told me, the winning team from this Tourney will go onto another event early next month, to compete for the prize of a 360 Elite. I'll have to check into this and other details, like gametypes and whatnot. I will post those as soon as I know them.
Just giving everyone a heads-up.
[edit]update: The start time is 9pm, which seems kind of late to me, but if it's at Chili's, then perhaps they're waiting 'til the crowds clear out. Winning team gets a copy of H3. I'm assuming that means the two players both get copies, since it's a Double-Team tourney. The 360 Elite prize is a different tournament altogether. EBGames or Gamestop (Andrew didn't know which) is hosting, so gametype(s), rules, etc. will be up to them. Admission is $5 per person ($10 per team). Considering it is hosted by a game store, rather than Budweiser, I'm assuming that equipment will be provided. Assume the same at your own risk. If you're unsure, bring a controller and leave it in your car, just in case.
Should be a good time. I'm going just for fun. I don't really care if I win the whole thing, as long as I get a few good games in.
Critter called me about this as well. I don't plan to participate, mostly because starting a tourney at 9 PM almost guarantees I'll be worthless at work the next day. However, it's for a good cause and if you've got the free time you might find the competition pretty lax.
Don't everyone volunteer at once!
Geez, I thought this would generate a mild interest from some THXers, at least enough to get a handful of us to show up. I guess a week's notice is not enough, or perhaps $5 is too much...
Don't worry. Critter and I will represent for THX. I'll logon XBL after the event and let you know how it went. If anyone is still on by then, that is.
I think it is 'cause it is Halo 2. I can tell you right now, if it was Halo 1, you would have a bunch of THXers, including me, all over it. I know for a fac tthat Hubcap and Shyzza would be very interested.
Halo 2, outside of recreational play, doesn't hold much sway I don't think. Plus, there is the THX anniversary thing tonight... so that is taking most, if not all people right there.
Josh, I understand your frustration. I often feel it too. But look at it realistically. Look at the recent comments. They're from the same people. About 10 Huntsvillians read this site regularly and about 5-6 post on it. THX is not really a viable resource for planning events anymore. For all intents and purposes, THX in its current form is dying. We mods have had it on life support for a few months, but the end is near.
I'd suggest hopping on facebook and creating an event there.

I really don't like that attitude. You need to correct that or we'll have Andy give you some candy.
I would have attended, but instead am going to a concert at crossroads tonight. Good luck in the tourney though...it would have been fun to sharpen some halo skills on some nubs.
I don't have time on a school night that late, sorry.
In the midst of some good competition and some close, well-fought games, my brother and I finished 2nd at the Chili's H2 St. Judes benefit. What was the prize for 2nd place, you ask? Not a damm thing, but we played some good games, met some nice people, and had a great time.
Holy crap! That's awesome, man. Congrats.
Just in case there's an outside chance that anyone's interested, Chili's is having another H2 Tourney tonight, 9pm. It has been confirmed, the winner gets a copy of H3. This was pretty fun last time, even though it is a late time to get started. The games usually go quick (5min time limit, except for final round). Last time, they used no radar, BR start, and human weapons. I expect the same this time around.
