As of now I will be there. I can bring:

1 - Xbox or 360 or both(Please let me know which.)
1 - Monitor
4 - Controllers
1 - Halo

Food?

It's a Halo 1 LAN, so just bring your original Xbox.

(1) 27" CRT TV (flat screen, 480p)
(~3) controllers
(2) chairs
(1) 100-ft ethernet cable
(1) 50-ft ethernet cable

I think that's all the equipment necessary. Let me know if we have a shortfall in a particular area.

I will also provide food and drink as requested.

Bring the remote for your TV or know in advance how to change the input without it!

Bring equipment if you have it! (TVs, Xboxes, networking gear, etc) If you play Halo then you've probably got a TV and Xbox. It's not as much of a hassle as you think to walk it 30 feet to your vehicle ,and it adds exponentially to the fun of the LAN (it's the difference between playing on a quarter screen and a half screen).

Yes, Alabama... where most of the THXer's live. Huntsville, AL is a tech nexus that attracts geeks from across the Southeast who find jobs, make money, and play video games. We all banded together back when H1 was first released, and had regular LANs in apartments scattered across the city.

Is that the same 27" TV I gave you at the last LAN? I'm not sure if you ever picked that up or just left it at Rap's house...

I'll attend, 47After most likely will as well, however considering how I need all the help I can get in Halo 1, I therefore will be using any and all hardware that I will be bringing. i.e. the crystal clear, low lag, perfect size CRT television. I relinquish it for no-one.

You should be able to get a fairly accurate count from this thread a few days before the LAN. I am sure Mintz will update it often (as he has been).

We will need charcoal. I will buy a bag. And hotdogs seemed popular last time if some were to show up......

Rap, your chair is still resident. I only have 4 foldable chairs, so make sure you bring your own unless you want to sit on the floor.

There is plenty of room in the backyard to throw Mintz around if need be...... or volleyball or whatever, as long as no explosions occur(damn rocket scientists)

Mintz will provide you a map if you ask as I don't want the whole HALO community knowing where I live. I am sure you are nice people, but I don't need randoms knocking on my door.

Papa John's is the only place that will deliver. The beer store if 5 minutes away for those who partake of adult beverages. I will clear the frig out for MT Dew stowage.

If any sporting events are on TV I will actually finally have cable, the patio has a hook up if you would like a sporting venue.

Torque has stored his pool table in my dining room if anyone would like to play.

Unless expressly cleared by Midnight and Rapture, all copies of anything besides HALO I will be confiscated upon entry.

Assuming either my car is working by then, or I can convince someone to bring me, I'll be there with some equipment. I'll dig out some stuff for the Xbox later, but I can supply 8? controllers and networking cable long enough to wrap around your average size house at least 3 times. I've also got a disc or two of that Halo 1 thing you guys are talking about, AND I can whip up some great BBQ sauce for chicken patties and hamburgers and whatnot.

Also, if you bring GHII/Guitar, let's try and get only one more guitar at the party. Rayne will be the only person providing a 360, so with one GHII software and 2 guitars you can get all your co-op achievements.

I can pick you up. My back seat will be filled with my TV/equipment, so we'll have to fit as much stuff as you can in my trunk, which shouldn't be a big problem.

I know we talked on the phone, but reading this post is making me second-guess myself: So you have TWO monitors and ONE SDTV to bring, right?

I just heard about this forum today and I just randomly get on and I see about this LAN in Huntsville, I'm in Tuscumbia so if theres room I'd like to come and I have 1 or 2 guys also if that would be ok.

Why is it that so many gamers tend to point out grammatical errors and other discrepancies in other people's posts? It's like it has to be absolutely perfect.

First, to eliminate any confusion, rapture and I are using the term monitor to mean a "video display device" and not necessarily a computer monitor.

I see what you mean. Unfortunately, with H1 we can only network 4 boxes in a single game. We're never really short of Xboxen or 360s, so if it were H2 we could bring a buttload of 360s and a buttload of personal, small monitors, and each have our own monitor. Not the case with H1.

That implies that the monitors at the LAN need to be capable of handling split screen comfortably. IMO, that means a minimum of 25-27". I too could bring a 22" LCD, but I don't think that'll help much.

Let's also remember that H1 isn't hi-def. 480p is the best we can get out of it, so a decent CRT SDTV is perfectly acceptable.

I know 4 THXers with 32" LCDs. Those four would help tremendously. After talking with FB on the phone he is down with that and expects Willdabeast will say the same.

In that case, there is really no point in me bringing my monitor. I suppose it would be a little small.

I think we arrived at that conclusion long ago. But I still think there is something to this. :)

While we don't want the majority of TVs at the LAN to be <=22" there is a place for a handful of them. Sometimes a network of 4 xboxen ends up with 3v4 and that small monitor is fine for one person.

If it's between playing and not playing then a 19" CRT is fine for 2 people, but we should focus on outfitting the LAN with 25"+ TVs. We don't do this very often. Might as well do it right.

I'm bad at H1, so my ego wouldn't allow me to come down for a H1 lan. If you guys are going to be playing a bit of le Run though... I'll be making the trek from Chattanooga.

There won't be any Shadowrun at this LAN.

I've already planned out where TVs/monitors are going to go in which rooms.

Oculus is bringing two computer monitors which is enough monitors. We only need 4 more TVs from this point on. 3, if Jdogg will bring his. (*wink*) That would complete the 32" LCD Thexer crowd.

Your second guessing is correct. There are actually 2 tvs and 1 monitor. Keep in mind, I've only got 1 xbox, so it may be pointless when we get the final counts in for how many Xboxen will be present. The more the merrier.

Just found out I have a baby shower to attend the 28th, so your going to have to count me out of this lan. I'll be back!

I will not be able to attend, after all. I am going on a 6-day white-water rafting trip in Idaho. I'll be gone from the 26th of July 'til the 2nd or 3rd of August. I knew the trip was coming up, but didn't realize the dates conflicted w/ this LAN until now.

I count 11 people attending from the initial post. Is that comprehensive? Can one of the Falwell army comment on which of them will be attending?

If attendance is less than 15 people we may have more equipment to go around than we thought. I hope that's not the case. A well-organized LAN with less than 20 people is very un-THX. Hell, we've gotten 8-people together on three hours notice before. Now we plan things a month in advance and 11 is the best we can do?

I'm inviting a few people. Two at least. I don't know if they will come though.

I can bring a 360 and 2 controllers, and i have a VGA cable. I can bring some chairs too.

Don't bring any 360s unless we're really hurting for it (I'll let you know at least a week before the LAN).

I am happy to host this LAN, but I will be one unhappy chick if a bunch of randoms comes rolling up in my yard that day.

But everyone has to understand I am really a girl. And I have to live alone in my house and feel safe. I am making no assumptions about anyone, I just prefer to invite people to my home who I know or someone I know is well acquanted with. There will be other LAN events at other venues and I am sure Beanor, or anyone else for that matter would be perfectly welcome. And once I or some other member of THX gets to know them they would be perfectly welcome at my house. And paranoid or not, this is my life, this is my house, and this is my peace of mind.

We also get together semi-regularly on Thursday nights to eat/drink/be merry, so I'd enjoy seeing you at one of those events as well, if you're interested. I think I can confirm that I will be bring at least two, possibly three, people to this LAN. All of three of these people are from my church. On of them is the youth minister, but I haven't gotten confirmation from him.

I had something more "meatier" in mind....guess it'll just have to wait till ......I dont know.....

I always figured gender-discrimination was brought on from without, not from within! As I have stated before, I am willing to step out of means to at least meet and greet.

I really hope this isn't the norm for the rest of you, I mean when is there not a risk for things to get out of hand? As far as assumptions go, this really hurts.

Just to make sure that this is clear, XRAY is coming with me unless there are issues with maxing out attendance. That means that from my family, hubcap, shyzza, the prey, xray and myself will be coming. Teppenwolf (my g/f) will be helping to transport equipment and meatbags (humans from KOTOR lore. Brick knows what I'm sayin'.). I will now be bringing 2 tube tv's including the Boat Anchor and a flat screen, both 28". I want to avoid using HD tv's as much as possible. I can also bring 2 hubs. Looking forward to it! Thanks to Rayne for opening her house to our motley crew!

Paranoid or not, I don't care for my life to become a feature on the Lifetime Movie Network, Unsolved Mysteries or even the 5 O'Clock News! And I can PROMISE you, NOTHING will get "out of hand" with this group of guys. And why should I even be expected to take that chance? And that is not even the point. My peace of mind is, my sense of safety within my own home when noone else is around IS the point.

This is EXACTLY why I told Mintz to NOT publish my address on the internet for the whole world to see. And if I had thought about it before hand, this would have been a private invite anyway. I NEVER signed up for the whole world to be able to come to my house for a LAN.

I could meet you, and in that short of a time it would tell me nothing. And trust me, as irritated as I am at this very moment, meeting me would not get you anywhere. You apparently have little to no respect for my feelings.

Wow, now, explain to me why Rayne is having to explain herself again? Look, if I was hosting a LAN at my house, I would be saying the exact same thing Rayne is, minus the whole female thing, and for slightly different reasons.

The point is, it really doesn’t matter what her reasons are, she has every right to be picky (and I don’t think she is being picky). But even if her reasons were way out of line, she still has every right, as the hostess, to choose whom she invites.

Now, I don’t know why this is so hard to understand. And I don’t know why it is such a big deal. This LAN has been being planned for months, if I am not mistaken, and it is kinda late in the game for any unknown individuals outside of the regular attendees to be trying to get in. But most importantly, it is only a LAN. Something that will happen again in a couple of months.

It all boils down to this, Rayne is the (gracious) hostess, she has her set of preferences and rules, therefore, we must abide by them, regardless of the validity (which these are) of the requests. End of story!

Furthermore, if you want to come to the next LAN, you aren't exactly striking a very good tone. I mean, people who don't respect the wishes of the host/hostess aren't exactly ushered to the front of the line of invitees.

Rayne: I will state again that you have no reason to explain yourself. Your house...your rules. If anyone doesn't like that they are welcome to not show up. Were I to ever have an event at my place, a similar set of rules would be in place. I've worked too hard and too long to attain the few nice things I have. I wouldn't flood my house with strangers on a bet.

Can anyone supply a laptop to capture game footage from? I've got plenty of hard drive space, so all I'd have to do is install Premiere Pro on there, or Vegas 7, this assumes the laptop has XP SP2 on it and a decent processor. Got my own equipment and cables too, just not the laptop.

I have a 13.3" Sony Vaio Dual Core Centrino Processor Laptop with Windows XP SP2 and 1.5 Gb of RAM that I bought just before Vista dropped.

Both of them would work well, midnight yours would run a bit slower than I'd like, but it'd still work. Do either one of your laptops have a 6 pin firewire port in it? Or even a 4pin, I think I can find my cables, but if it's got a standard firewire port it'll make things easier on me :).

is sad to admit I have no idea what you are talking about.......but thanks to the power of Google I think I can safely say I have a 4-pin firewire port. I think that is the one my iPod would plug into. If so, this means I have an adaptor somewhere that converts the 4-pin to 6-pin. I will check tonight when I get home though.

Thank you for making a decision. I've found in my leadership experience that sometimes a decision must be made that really doesn't matter that much and could have several acceptable answers. When that situation arises choose one of the acceptable answers, declare it with verve and confidence, and not only will people follow your direction, but they'll assume there is some grandiose thought process behind it.

Of course, the true secret to this is to be someone who people actually listen to. That being said, I believe that midnight should actually make the declaration of 11am, as we all know teh mintoz isn't exactly the most listenableworthy guy around. (yes that's a word dammit, accept it). Although, I should realize that he's got the capability to edit posts to say anything he wants them to say, AND he's driving me to the LAN, so maybe I should be a little nicer.

In other news, check my brownies thread in the hill. I'm leaving for work tomorrow around 3pm, after that the only way to get cookie and brownie requests will be to either text me or drop by for a visit. I'll be on break around 8pm, so anytime before/after that is peachy keen.

What midnight said is step 1. Step 2 is to have upper management support when you make a decision. Everyone has a boss.

The flipside of that is if you want to grow effective leadership within your organization you do not undermine someone who you have placed in a postition to run things. If they prove incompetent you remove them. Otherwise you guide and correct behind closed doors. Mintz is doing a fine job of organizing this show so far. As far as I'm concerned it starts when he says it starts unless Rayne overides him.

I am short one black S Controller. It either had a rubber band around the center or was otherwise unmarked. If I remember correctly, the back sticker might be peeling a little in one corner. If found, please notify me asap.
