The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.

Many people on my list were playing.

You can use the Energy Sword. Notice the ammo meter for this weapon.

Dual pistols. One pistol is a 5 shot kill.

Note how high I am. Wraith is barely visible in bottom left. Look at the sensitive radar.

Multiple teams.
Tonight, thousands of HALO 3 beta participants got to play custom gametypes in HALO 3. Previously, it the custom gametypes menu. Tonight a viral networking event took place.
I received a text message saying that some people on my list were playing HALO 3 custom gametypes. They certainly were. Oddly enough, when I started the HALO 3 beta, I was notified that I need to download and apply an update to HALO 3. Whatever the update did, it didn't prevent me from playing HALO 3 custom gametypes.
The ability to play custom games spread in a viral fashion as when someone "backs out" of a custom match they are taken to a customs game menu in which they can start a customs match. So, one game could be the parent of thousands of customs matches. Note that a modified XBOX 360 (which will get you banned from XBOX Live) is not required to play or host the customs games. Heh. This morning, I saw several XBOX 360 idling with single players in custom games. I guess they didn't want to risk losing the customs menu.
How one starts a custom game in the first place is a bit of a mystery. It appears that it randomly happens after pressing a lot of buttons in the customs games menu we revealed last week.
We played all kinds of gametypes with all kinds of weird settings. Low gravity with infinite ammo in Spartan Lasers on Valhalla was a blast. However, gametype in which the running speed was increased was difficult to play with Battle Rifles as it was hard to hit someone moving that fast multiple times. Additionally, we played a gametype in which the Oddball carrier was invincible. Not invisible. But invincible. Odd indeed.
Check out my HALO 3 stats. You can see here that we even got to play Tank Flag.

hey i got some news you might want to post up
check out my site the360loop.com. Mentions the new Brute Chopper vehicle and radar jammer equip. Even pics of the new armors!
Had a blast
Had a blast playing custom games last night. Got out of the map at Valhalla, took a banshee almost to the clouds above where things don't render correctly anymore.
I don't think we even touched the surface of what is possible as far as gametypes are concerned. The pistol is weak, but who's really surprised. Most of the games I got in were more for giggles than anything else, I mean, 200% speed with less gravity isn't really a competitive gametype, but fun nonetheless.
jayWHY can't make custom gametypes.
lol, last night I found out the hard way that lots of customization can be a bad thing...
While I was party leader with like fifteen other people in the room I felt panicked (sp?) to make a game type quickly and not waste people’s time. But because of the overwhelming amount of customization I ended up making game types that had you spawn with SMG rather then pistol/sword like I had intended (... And this didn't just happen once, I had to end the game pre-maturely at least four times because of 'messed up' settings)...
Also, I noticed that once you actually start to play customs you're immediately out of the 'comfort zone' Bungie had... meaning you're no longer forced to play certain game types on specific maps... The result was a LOT more bugs and odd glitches (Example: If you're in a Wraith and you get boarded, you cannot exit the wraith while the 'boarder' is still on your wraith... odd). But obviously this is because Bungie never intended for 'us' to play customs... I just hope everyone else realizes that.
To sum things up… Customs rock, and jayWHY can spend twenty minutes tweaking the settings and the game type still sucks ;)...
+1 Devin I backed out at one

I backed out at one point to explore the options and found them just as plentiful as described. The setting to change starting weapons is about three menus deep, IIRC.
The bug of respawning with a different starting weapon was strange as well. This wasn't repeatable. Sometimes you would start with a BR and your first respawn would be with an AR. Sometimes you'd keep the BR for several respawns and then get an AR. Sometimes you never spawned with anything but the BR. Weird.
Sort of my immediate
Sort of my immediate impression last night was H3 still sucks. It is still worse than H2 even with customs. Everything is nerfed except dual wields and spray weapons. The gameplay is reminiscent of H2 before the 1.1 patch.
Damn!
And my 360 is nowhere to be seen! :(
Umm
Try downloading the beta again, I think your code didn't work, or else it gave you a copy of some other game.
The BR, the sniper, and the shotty all work quite well; to say that only dual wields are effective is pretty silly.
Rampant for over seven years.
Oh yeah, and the game isn't
Oh yeah, and the game isn't even completed yet.
