HALO 3 rankings explained
Grunts"R"Us (heh) has a really useful guide to the new military-style ranking system in HALO 3 beta. They lay out the ranks and the RP points required to get the ranks. Notice that if you quit out you'll loose 2 RP points.
Below is information pulled from Grunts"R"Us:
The Rating Points (RP) Ranking system is based on military ranks and is the secondary measure which measures you up in matchmaking. The points given goes accordingly, and are given in both ranked and non-ranked matchmaking:
Win a match: 1 RP
Lose a match: 0 RP
Quit out of a match: -2 RP
The ranks are given like so, and are subject to change (as this is semi-unofficial and somewhat speculative):

Rank: Recruit - Grade 1

I hope Bungie will reset these occasionally; given enough time, many people will make the Major-Rank 3 level.
It's your TrueSkill that determines who you gets matched up with. TrueSkill is kind of an economy where there should be few higher ranked players than lower ranked players.
This military style ranking doesn't work that way. I think the point of that kind of ranking is to show your time investment in the game.
People are playing 1,000's of games and not breaking level 30 in HALO 2. Now they'll be able to move up in rank (military sytle) and work toward something. I don't think the point is to have an exclusive group of high military ranking gamers. I think this one is for everyone to get.
After all, if you've paid your dues, shouldn't you earn something?
Agree completely and like the system.
Edited to add: Currently there are 10 enlisted ranks and 7 officer ranks in the system. In the military there are 9 enlisted ranks and 10 officer ranks. Has Bungie left some room for expansion at the upper end? There are several officer ranks above major: lieutenant colonel, colonel, brigadier general, major general, lieutenant general, and general. Perhaps they want to see how hardcore people will get before they set the points necessary for the highest ranks. What if they set it too low and everybody got it, or they set it too high (like the "Seriously" achievement in GoW) and nobody got it?
I predict Bungie will add colonel grade 1, colonel grade 2, and general for a total of 10 enlisted and 10 officer ranks. I predict it will come post-launch as an update through XBL.
I like the Gunnery Sergeant Grade 2's badge.
They don't need to really reset them. They prove who the best players are and shows who dosen't quit when you need them.
They're already there.
The top is 5 star general.
I think you are right. Updated the post to add a new ranking:
Rank: Commander - Grade 1
RP Points: 250
Level: 40 and above (?)
Something here isnt right. I have 287 RP and level 40 ranked, and I havent hit commander??
If you actually play the beta some of your ranks aren't in the ame nor are your rp sets right. You might want to do more research before you post information on the world wide web you big DA.
To add, there is also a skill rating. this way the military ranks will show how much time you played in the game and your skill rating will show how good you actually are. The skill works very much like the Halo 2 ranks as far as matchmaking is concerned. So overall the ranking structure is fair and balanced and Halo 3 is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bungie need to change how the ranks set up cause the more games u play determine ur rank dats lumberjackish its should be base on win n kills
^ You're retarded? Dropped to many times on your head possibly. Your mom must have had butter fingers. As well as stone hands.
You have 1 normal skill ranking just like Halo 2's. Then you have an extra one that basically shows how much you play teh game.
How is that bad?
I'll tell you how it is bad; It isn't.
It doesnt matter what rank they are... the skill level raises and drops. The rank only tells you their experience. It's the number next to it that matters.
The reason I don't like the new rankings is becuase they aren't rankings like people have said. It's just a tool to measure how many games you have played. This isn't going to work well when matching people up in games. Heres an example:
Dewy and Huey are both ranked the same. Each have 25 points and have won the same amount of games. Only difference is Dewy has played 100 games and Huey only played 25.
So who would win head to head? I put my money on Huey
That isn't right, or am I missing something?
Your numerical matchmaking rank is totally separate from your Spartan rank.
In any case, my money's on Trogdor.
My friend got the Liutenant Rank On BETA of course he's Really Good add Nurb of Doom
the highest rank is acieved at 5000 rp .you must be extreemly sad to get it though
Maybe that's why they removed the Staff Sergeant icon from Halo 3...
I still wish I knew the criteria for being a game's MVP.
you must have the highest kill to death ratio in the match
for example:
you have 10 kills and 5 deaths
Joe has 8 kills and 2 deaths
Therefore, Joe gets MVP because his K/D ratio is 4, while yours is only 2
hope i helped ya
to be the games mvp you have to have the most kills in the whole game. so you have to have the more kills than anybody on your team as well as more kills than anyone on the other team
Military Rankings Explained
Alright since everyone still seems a bit confused about the military rankings let me explain it a bit further.
Note in this link to my profile you can see the military ranking system, please refer to it as you read my explanation.
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/RankHistory.aspx?player=Okira
First scroll down so that you can see from Sergeant to Brigadier.
To the right of the Officer Ratings there is a bubble with a number in it. If you have obtained said "Skill"(Level) in ANY of the ranked modes then you will be able to move up to the next officer rating. For example Take a look at Lieutenant and Gunnery Sergeant, there are 2 grades skipped in both of them. The reason these were skipped is because I had obtained the corresponding "Skill"(Level) in any of the modes and then garnered the correct amount of experience to go along with it. For instance since I have already gotten level 30, once I get 200 experience I will become a major, if I had not yet achieved level 30 then my next rank up would be at 300 experience and it would be Grade 3 Captain....So as you can see it is a combination of "skill"(Level) and matches played that furthers your military ranking.
*note* Highlighted numbers of Skill have already been achieved
Skill/Level are interchangeable in the following paragraph
(Uncertainty)
One thing I'm somewhat uncertain about is what would happen if you never gained the appropriate level to become the next rank or if you gained the level after already obtaining more experience....However my guess would be that once you had the appropriate level it would bump your rank up....or if you never had the level that you could be stuck at that rank grade 4 forever...Although it is possible there is a higher rank than General it is not yet on the Bungie site so I'm not going to speculate further about it...Hope my rambling helped you fellas out.
This is the current system on the final copy, as apposed to the beta mentioned above.

This was proven incorrect multiple times last Saturday.
Pardon but what was proven incorrect?
The bit about MVP stuff?
Yes.
I have played over 28 games. My team has won a decent amount of the time, so I am moving up the ranks. But my max skill is 1. I get an average of 2-3 kills per event (6-9 deaths), and I am going up against people that get 17-20 kills per event. I do not see how this is fair from my perspective. I want to play, but it isn't much fun when I die every 15-30 seconds. Are they really matching based on my skill level if the others that I am playing are that much better than me?
wow, i hope ur not serious. you are obviously not playing people of ur similiar skill because u r going in social slayer which is completely random. Like you said, you have a max skill of 1 (which means u havent played anything ranked, therefore not playing any games that would match you to similiar skill levels.) Im also guessing you have about 25 exp.
I am Trueskill 10 so if i now play only social matches and get my Exp to 5,000 can I get the General rank?
How does this work.
(If you had 5,000 experience at "Skill" 10) You will become lieutenant rank 4 until you obtain a higher "Skill" in which case you will then be increased to the corresponding rank/experience. Such as, once you hit 20 you would become a Captain grade 4, and then at 30 you'd become Major Grade 4, 35 Commander Grade 4, 40 Colonel Grade 4, 45 Brigadier Grade 4, 50 General Grade 4 because you have already achieved the required experience amount. However you will never become General without becoming level 50 first.
so 50 in any skill category?
You guys are all new to this game or something, because as someone put before, commander isn't the top rank. There are four grades of Colonel, then Brigadier, then General. If you don't belief me it's on bungie.net and I doubt they got it wrong. Second you people seem to have trouble seperating rank from trueskill rating... Theres a big difference.
Your rank, sargent for example, is determined from experience and has nothing to do with your skill. It's like an rpg game, the more people you kill the more levels ( or in this case ranks ) you go up.
Trueskill goes up and down according to you skill in relation to the other players you play with. If you do great and completely own in a game, youll probably be moved up higher in the trueskill rank so youll encounter people with skills similar to your own. If you do crappy, you get lower.
Ranking and trueskills have nothing to do with each other. There could be a Grade 4 General with skills equivalent to someone who just started playing. How? Because trueskill and rank have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Rank shows your time spent, trueskill shows your amount of skill SHOWN IN that time spend. I worded all that as simply as possible. See you in the field n00bz >=)
Reset Ranks? Yeah, that won't piss people off. How bout one day you finally make it to the top rank after shit load of games, and pushing yourself to it. Then the next day Bungie resets everything on you.
History has proven this correct.
Twice.
By the way any one saying that its not fair cause every one will hit gerneral isnt true. In order to be a general you must be 50
40+ only get brigadier 30+ major 20+ capatian 10+ leutiniut
their is a list of all of these lvls and there requirements on this website as well http://halowiki.net/p/Ranks :) im a lvl 32 major grade 2 with 350 rp
I agree with you man.
If you ever played battlefield for xbox an I believe they had one out for 360 but I played on xbox way back when, an the rankings were true investment of time not wins and winning streak skills.
I'm down with what you said.
Halo has always been about the number of all your game playlists.
Opinionated but for real.
Although it's fun getting the rank up
I mean... I am captain and I do strive for the next level...
ya know...
^^
Just wreck dawg.

I hope bungie doesn't reset the ranks because all those games and you get to major gr3 or commander or higher and they reset all that work would be gone, and some of my friends said if they do that they won't play Halo 3 as much or just stop playing rank.
40+ only get brigadier 30+ major 20+ capatian 10+ leutiniut

Indeed, http://halowiki.net has some info about the ranks system. It originated from the info over at gruntsrus actually. Please don't forget that we're a wiki so that if anyone sees information that's incorrect, unclear or missing, please help fix it.
You have to be a level 50 to be a general so it will take skill to rank up. before you post something make it accurate.
Actually theres going to be somewhere around 5 star general and like 5 more or something like that.
Any body who uses the term nOOb really has to get out more.

I don't think you know how to use "you're" appropriately, n00b. I think you should go find a bridge, and because you used the period incorrectly, I'll just assume you're an idiot and tell you what to do: jump.
i hate you motherhumping nerd
so-when will the comparisons to hitler begin?
yea i dont think its hard to rank up in halo 3 it just takes a lot of time
Man, is this all the same guy? Might have to flex the IP-banning muscles...
The Ranking system is posted several places, including the Bungie website, but here it is again some more.
There are two systems that combine to make your rank: Matchmaking Skill and Experience Points.
Matchmaking Skill, for the purposes of rank, correlates to your highest numerical rank in Ranked Games. The exact algorithm for calculating Matchmaking Skill is a Bungie state secret, but pretty much, if you at least got a couple Double Kills or a Killing Spree and still got in the top 3, you shouldmaintain or gain a little bit of Skill, even if it's only a quarter of a level. If you cream the competition, you gain a level or two. If you play like crap, you could lose a level or two.
Experience Points are much easier to get and figure out. In any ranked or matchmade social game, be in the top half of players in free for all, or have your team win in team games, and you get one Exp. Point. Lose a game, gain nothing, lose nothing. Quit early or get booted for rampant abuse, and you lose exp.
These combine to form your Spartan Rank. Enlisted Ranks are solely based on Exp, and thus, it's only a matter of time, even for the crappiest player, for everyone to reach, at the very least, Gunnery Sergeant Grade 4, once they win 300 games (and win enough games to cover games they quit).
The Officer Ranks are earned with a combination of your top Matchmaking Skill level and your Exp. Points. The first Officer rank is Lieutenant, and is earned as soon as you have BOTH at least Level 10 Matchmaking Skill in one of the Ranked Playlists, and a total of 70 Exp. Points. From here, you can gain more Exp, and get higher Grades of Lieutenant, or gain more Matchmaking Skill and enough Exp to get to the next highest rank, Captain. Rinse and repeat this process until level 50 with 600 experience to get General.
Now, the thing about Officer ranks, is that it is much, MUCH easier to lose, lose badly, and thus, lose levels at higher Skill ranks, simply because the matchmaking system is set up to match you with similarly skilled people (in each particular Ranked Playlist)no matter what. This makes for some interesting dichotomies:
One, when REALLY good players first begin playing multiplayer only in Ranked games: I've seen Grade 1 Gunnery Sergeants with Level 30 Matchmaking Skill because, even though they've only played 50 or so games, they obliterated the competition in that single Ranked playlist.
Two, it also means that, even if you've played 700 games, and you won 99% of them, if you've only won 2 of those games in a ranked playlist, you'll STILL probably only be a Gunnery Sergeant.
The final strangeness comes when you seem to be inexplicably be matched with a Level 1 General in a Ranked Playlist. Again, your Spartan Rank is based on your HIGHEST Matchmaking Skill, but that doesn't mean your other, separate Matchmaking Skill points in the other Ranked Playlists aren't being tracked. So, regardless of the fact that he's level 65 in Doubles, if this is the first time he's playing Free-for-All, then he's going to be matched for a while with the Recruits through Lieutenants that inhabit the lower echelons of that playlist.
As for social matching, I think it's solely based on exp, with guests counting as having the same amount of exp as their hosts. So, even if the poor guy sitting next to you sucks, if you are a Gunnery Sergeant Grade 4 or higher, he's probably gonna get his butt handed to him by some Gunnies, Majors, and Colonels.
In team games, it tries to match an overall average of Exp. team-to-team, so you'll get situations where there's 5 Majors facing a 3 Captains, a Commander and a Colonel.
The thing people dread most on the social team playlists, in my experience, is being teamed with someone who has 3 guests along with them, against a team of all single players. Even if those guests were top Bungie beta testers, most people don't have a TV big enough for those beta testers to see squat, and accordingly, they suck royally. It's just the way of the world.
I hope I've explained enough for one night. For the actual rank insignia matched with the requisite Matchmaking Skill and Exp. Points required to obtain them see:
http://gruntsrus.com/viewpage.php?page_id=60
First of all, since this is a forum and people generally don't proofread their comments before posting, your reason for implying that he is an idiot is not only unjustified but idiotic. When did forum posting start to relate to IQ level? Granted, you did say "assume" which may mean you considered there is a chance he is not an "idiot," however, due to the context of your post chances are you were lashing out.
Second, when you type a post similar to the one you just did, which inherently claims your grammar is flawless. You look like a hypocrite when people can look back at your previous posts and see that you only have decent grammar when you proofread a post thirty times.
If what he said offended you instead of acting out, try and communicate why your feelings were hurt.
after commander are colonel to grade 4 and brigadier to grade 4 and general up to grade 2 and after that no one knows yet
OK Dr. Phil. *checks watch* Uh oh, looks like we're about out of time. See you next week!
hey, you can increase your halo 3 ranking. these guys are giving away free kills. http://www.anufirm.com
Halo 3 ranks officially mean nothing to me anymore. Thank you Bungie for giving us the Social Playlists and XP.
----------------------------
"Oculus is just this guy, you know?"
you have to play more social to get to the next ranking. your rank and medal points have to even out.
Major-Rank 3 level..mmhhh let me think about that..the only way someone would reach that is if they did not have teh skill to be a higher skill level..like most good players there highest skill is around 45-50 like me im a 49 soon to be a 50 in lonewolfs and if ur complaining that people are all going to be the same rank then u should not be playing halo
all of you people that are bragging about ur lvl 32's should shut up b/c im a lvl 49 brigadier with 515 exp so shut up
i think that you are a humping idiot they should not reset the stats you just suck
I wonder if you'll change your tune the day so many people are the maximum rank that noobs will consistently face pros.
Mintz, that won't ever happen. If you had actually taken the time to understand how this ranking system works, and what its purpose is, then you would know that noobs will never face pros. The system of ranks is specifically made to avoid that scenario - it pairs you up against someone of your, or similar, rank. If you actually manage to reach the maximum rank, then you're not a "noob" anymore. There are so few people that will actually get that far without quitting the game for good, giving up, or not bothering to keep advancing, that your whole notion of noobs vs. pros is moot.
You don't just advance automatically, you really have to try, and you have to play a lot, and you have to play on RANKED matches. If you just play social games, you advance fast at all and it'll take you an eternity (or close to 20 years) to achieve the max rank.
I guess that makes sense. I was under the assumption that as long as you keep playing any kind of game and gaining XP, you'll advance in rank, and given enough time, will advance to the highest level.
There might be other reasons why Bungie would reset the ranks. Just because I say they MIGHT do it doesn't mean I WANT them to.
i'd be pissed off if they did, and I've only made it to lieutenant grade1. I've played some guys that have made it to Colonel, and i can imagine they would just stop playign all together if someone stripped their rank. it takes A LOT of investment to get that high. you not only ahve to play all the time, but you have to actually WIN all the time too.
HAS ANY OF YOU GUYS EVER REACH ONE OF THE HIGHEST RANKS "BRIGANDER COMMANDER" ?
HEY YOU GUYS WANNA CHECK OUT MY PLAYER ITS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
THE HUMPERS
HEY I BET YOU GOT THAT HIGH OF A RANK BY BEATING NOOBS HUH
I think you may have your caps lock on. If you've got your hands on the keyboard it's the one to the left of your pinky on your left hand. That should do the trick. Conversely, if you want to use your right hand to press the button, it's easier to move your left hand first then slide your right hand from starting position perfectly down the rows to the very left of your keyboard. When you hit the last key, you can then press the button.
Some use the technique of finding the Esc key and going 3 keys down and pressing, however I'm not partial to that way of doing it because I have to jump the break from the Esc before I hit the tilda (~), sometimes messing up my counting. Perhaps 2 up from the Ctrl button is more precise.

"Oculus is just this guy, you know?"
Do you mind if I print this out and mail it to The Humpers? Would you have a specific frame in mind? Perhaps a mahogany? It should sit prominently by his computer screen, and mahogany is hard to miss.
Matt, I didn't know your dad posted in these forums...
Who's yer daddy! ;)
You have to meet both criteria to get the rank... if u have 5,000 EXP, but a highest skill of 1 in ranked, then u wont even make it to lieutenant... (recruit - sergeant GRD. 4 dont require ranked skill points)... Its basically a balance of both....
Hope that was helpful...

what online game is the easiest to earn xp fast
There is no Lieutenant Grade 4 Rank. It is only First Lieutenant. I purposely derank my Skill Level so I can pwn 40's as a 1LT.
has it ever occured to you guys that you can just play for fun without worrying about the ranks?
Having fun in video games is sooooo overrated. I can't wait to boost my way to a General.
I have a question...I am in a way a noob at halo...I started playing like 6 months back, but i still cant figure out how to level up my skill... I have gotten over 200 xp, but still no skill. What am i doing wrong?
You need to raise your hishest skill level over level 20 to become captian at 100xp, need 200xp and 30 for major, 35 and 300xp for commander, 40 and 400xp for colnol, 45 and 500xp for brigader (don't know how to spell it), 50 and 600xp for General. It's not hard to figure it out so try to find another web site if you can't get it.
so i just read all these comments and have to say they are very interesting! yes i know i'm in caps. sorry if it makes me seem like i'm screaming. maybe some people like to type in caps, gosh!! haha! anyways, if people can't understand the skill and experience difference then just don't worry about it. noob is a new word to me. there will always be people better than others. me personally, i love the new rank system. if your good then you can rank up with the skill level as long as you have the minimum exp. for each rank. other people level up by exp. and that way takes forever!! if you are fairly good at the game then i would reccommend lone wolf because there you gain skill quick and if you come in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you get an exp. point. also i like to add, when bungie did reset the stats it was in a way good because it was getting very bad with the standbying. afterward of course i didn't play as much because of that. if bungie reset stats it won't be for awhile. once again i think bungie did a good job with the rank structure and for this being new with the 2 part rank you can't be perfect. hopefully this has been informative and helpful. well see ya playas on the field!! peace, love, and respect!!

[edit: your capslock key is just as unwelcome here as everywhere else. turn it off. - the modz]
Jesus, doesn't anyone play for fun! I think being a general is a badge of shame, if your sad enough to win 5000 games, then get a life and get out more! People take ranks way too seriously, they're not that important its just a game!
sorry about the rant but i just dont see the point of getting so worked up about ranks on a video game
Peace out yo
Anyone who's already the last rank....
Needs to get a girlfriend
I just started playing a few days ago. Today was my first day on live. I'm already an appretice grade 2 :D
So proud of myself. hump all you people who make fun of me. It's my first Halo game
im a captain but i only have 145 exp?
For higher ranks you actually have to have certain skill lvls.
cause you need 300 exp,400exp and skill 40 to hit colonel,500 exp and skill 45 to hit brigadier and 600 exp and skill 50 to hit general
lllolololololllololololololllllolollolol
I like ranks because it gives you somthing to work toward
I know it's not the hugest deal, but the fun for me is winning a swack of games and getting a reward I can be proud of. I'm not a huge fan of the skill levels though because I can't F**KING LEVEL UP. I think there might some corrospondence (thats right) between skill and rank/expirence. I had 200 expirence, but my skill was only 16. I played with my friend one day, he had 12 skill and 54 expirence. At the end of our day, I had 19 skill and he had 21. (We won all but a few). So, I think the more expirence you have, the harder it is to gain skill. (Kinda like pokemon, but infinately more kickass). You need not believe me, but whatever; it's just an obervation.
The other really cool thing I like about Halo is the medals. Medals for me, like rank, hold some honor (kinda lumberjackish sounding, but f**k you anyways if you say it's lumberjackish. You've read this far down the page, you're obviously no better). That's where the skill lies for me. If I run into a guy and he gets a Killocalypse, he's a perma-hero. Some may say it's just a right place/ right time kinda thing, but at the end of everything, isn't that what it's all about?
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?player=Prometheus0666
call of duty pwns halo - peace
the matchmaking isnt really that fair as a general can have a lvl 50 in team doubles and team slayer then it has a lvl 1 in lone wolves and he starts to play that to get it to 50..... i think you see where im going and if you dont... YOUR A FUKING RETARD :D let me explain it to you
ok its your first day playing halo 3 online and you are a recruit and you pick lone wolves as your first match and you see
thing 1 - lvl 1 Recruit
thing 2 - lvl 2 recruit
noob - lvl 1 recruit
wtfpwn - lvl 1 major
firsttimer - lvl 1 recruit
iownnoob - lvl 2 recruit
so you look at wtfpwn game record and he has 1,000 exp and 50 rank. He has only played lets say 400 ranked matches and 100 social
who the fuk do you think is gonna win ^_^;
BTW ranks dont matter so dont call someone a noob if they are a recruit cuz they could be a soon to be general -_-
oh and my last past when i said major i ment general o.o
i don't think that right, i played and had a much higher K/D ratio but the other guy had one more kill than i did and he still got MVP.....anyway
**********************************************
i was wondering how you get you # rank to move up im only a 10 but it seemed like i moved up really fast, my frind is a 8 and can't get past that and he has been winning a lot of games in a row and getting really high kills and always having a good K/D raito, we will be playing 4 people on one xbox everyone else moves up except him..... its crazy can anyone help
**********************************************
also how can i download the halo 2 maps ive tried with the disc in i went to the marketplace looked and i can't find the game, so i let the game play and went to content download and i find the maps they start to download the it says something about the download cant complete it sucks help!!!!
I have been playing Halo 3 for awhile now.
1) Ranks are great. They DO give you something to work forward to, and it helps you get better.
2) You can't do it though, if you just play with people who are in and out. Even if they're great people, find someone close to your skill that you can work with, that plays often enough to be consistent.
This is going to sound odd, but sometimes you can do it solo. You'll get grouped with several good people who are all on, for several good games. That's all just luck. Oh, and your uber1337 skills of course.
3) MVP, I can only say has something to do with your K/D ratio, and nothing to do with your medals. I played a match with a friend, had the same exact K/D ratio and number of kills/deaths as he did, had 3 more medals in the match and more headshots than he did... he got MVP. Likewise, you can be on the losing team and be MVP. My guess is, highest total value of skill experience kills. Example: Bob Dobbs and I play a match together on the same team and get the same end-game stats. I killed the same 22 over and over and kill the 26-27 and 28 leveled players three or four times, he killed that 27 as many times as I killed the 22. Bob was doing higher damage to the better skilled players opposing us, so he's MVP.
That is the sort of math, however, that I have no intention of doing in regard to a match. Just as I have no intention of learning where every single spawn point on the map is. Rank is great, but it's not THAT much of a motivator.
that's wrong your kpd has nothing to do with mvp
I just scrolled thru all this convo about ranks... get over it. If by now you dont know how the rank system works, and what it takes to get MVP, you need not play Halo 3 any longer. I started my new account and made it to a rank 43, winning the first 34 games I played in doubles. And I still rather play on my old account where I'm a first Lt. With a high skill of only 16, some 700 xp. When you get up so high its nothing but clans who take it way to seriously. And by the way, the higher your xp is, the harder to rankup. My suggestion would be to play lone wolves, get an achievement then quit and loose a point. Keep doing it to lower your xp by about 75 then play ranked matches and skill up faster. I've done it many times.... General grade 4 on 2 other accounts, with ex at 4910 and 5400. Yes your ex will keep going up. Ive seen ex as high as 7000.

To get MVP you must have the highest kill count. If you are tie it will depend on your use of different weapons. If you used only a BR and Assult rifle, and he used 3 or 4 different weapons to get kills then he will get MVP. The same goes for skill ranks. You might win 4 games in a row and not go up. Use different weapons and sticky nades, the system loves to see nade kills and sticks from a distance. This is information passed on to me by a friend from Bungie Studios. He is also involved with Ensemble Studios on the new Halo Wars. Which by the way beta testing went very well.
And for any of you who care the rumors about a Halo 4 are true. Look for a release in or around the fall of 2010 - This was information obtained from a private interview with Frank O'Conner (lead writer of Halo 3) however no one knows if he is leaving the famed Bungie to persue the project. Some preliminary work has been done by a group of developers at Ensemble.

dang. this guy is hot :]
hellz yeah.
you're an idiot... kill spread has nothing to do with it.. its the most kills.... you can have a kill spread of -49... but as long as you have the most kills, you're mvp.. if two players are tied in kills, it then goes to kill spread, assists, metals, ect.....
I am staring a new account and I am on team slayer. I am only a 15 yet I have been +20 almost every game. I have gotten MVP about 10 times in a row now yet I don't rank up. Whats the deal
I don't get this. I am 40 exp. on team slayer now and I have gotten MVP i'd say 35 of those 40 games. I have a K/D spread of roughly +20 every time yet I don't rank up. I am only a 15. It doesn't make sense, the system has got to be flawed.
