Crackdown H3 Beta Delay

Update: XBOX.com is saying that the staff is working for the next 24 hours to fix the problem.

Update2: Bungie says an update will be ready before midnight EST

Update3: You can download the H3 beta via Crackdown now. Beta end date moved to Sunday, 6/10, at 11:59 PM PDT.

There is currently a delay from downloading the H3 Beta through the Crackdown method. Frankie states on Bungie.net that they are working on the problem.

"Folks are reporting problems downloading the Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown this morning. We have alerted the appropriate Live authorities and they are taking care of the problem as we speak. More news as it comes in."

With any luck this will be a short delay. People enetering the Beta through other methods - Friends and Family, Rule of Three and so on, are unaffected."

Sucks for all those who didn't get in on friends and family.

I guess the beta will remain mostly douche free for the next few hours. now...If only I wasn't at work.

I tried downloading H3 Beta through this method this morning to no avail. Hopefully it will be resolved by this afternoon, if not I can imagine quite a few unhappy campers out there.

At least you can still play in a full party of friends!

As expected, the Bungie forums are ablaze. They are being inundated with post after post of angry Crackdown purchasers and people who took off of work/school to play H3 Beta. It's a real circus.

In amongst the threads you can find some funny stuff:
Here's a thread where someone has posted a link to a guy who is playing H3 Beta Live through his webcam. I'm not sure if it's work safe since I've not clicked on it yet.

I gave away my last beta code just now. Maybe Crackdown will be fixed by this evening.

I might be online late tonight again.

"Bungie have stated that they have informed the guys at Xbox live and the problem should be rectified shortly, but we've heard different. A source close to Bungie tells us they've had huge problems with the server that unlocks the client to those who have a copy of Crackdown and that it will be some time before the problem is rectified; it's been suggested that the client download may not be available until tomorrow. "

^ Man, I hope so. Not having to deal with the 12 year olds is a real joy as of now.

I'm selling mine on eBay! (would that work?)

Shoot, I'd buy it from you at this point. How much? hehe.

*UPDATE* By Frankie:

Quote:

We're happy to finally announce that the issues being faced with the Halo 3 beta and Crackdown will be resolved shortly. The Microsoft team has found a solution and it's undergoing final testing now. Assuming the test pass goes according to plan, the fix will come in the form of a Crackdown title update within the next three to six hours.

We understand many of you were eagerly awaiting your chance to jump into the Halo 3 Beta and this technical issue has put a damper on your plans. Thankfully the fix is incoming and we're sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Ultimately we hope this will all soon be a distant memory once you pick up the Spartan Laser, launch yourself from a Mancannon and enjoy online shenanigans with your friends.

As a reminder, people who already have the Halo 3 Beta are unaffected by this issue.

We'll keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

I know I have no clue how something like this works, but wouldn't it make sense for bungie and xbox live to be testing this client server to make sure everything was working? Because to me if they did the testing and everything was ok'd...seems odd that the day of there is a serious issue that pops up? I know it is mass chaos on the servers right now, but just a thought. On another note it's not a huge issue to me since thankfully I got my email this morning...but those angry gamers that have been waiting all day are gonna be going even more ape crap when they hear it will not be ready until tomorrow. Poor bungie...you guys are going to get super slammed...hope you can pick up the pieces in time!

I'm not one to start conspiracies, but maybe they are just not ready to release the BETA to such a mass audience yet and know there is something they must fix first...maybe a server issue or something? Once that crackdown download becomes available that will be an instant 100+ thousands folks. Who knows, Im just rambling.

No friend of Bungie would sell an invite on eBay.

JDogg, I wondered the same thing about testing. One would think that on Monday someone at Microsoft said "Hey, Clovus, there's a lot of folks waiting to download H3 Beta this Wednesday. Maybe we should do a test and see if a few of us can do it."

Maybe they did test it and the problem was just elusive. Who knows.

I'm much better friends with Ben Franklin than I am Bungie :)

Naaahh... Conspiracy theories are much more exciting.

My friends aren't very happy. They went home today and were mad that they couldn't download it. I pretty sure theyr'e still sitting around waiting for the download to work.

SketchFactor writes: This just in! The Microsoft team has identified the issue that was preventing the Halo 3 beta from being downloaded via Crackdown. This problem is expected to be fixed within the next 3 to 6 hours. New information as soon as we have it!"

Yay, one extra day of the beta!

JDOGG85's picture

Actually, a full 4 days and a weekend I believe...which is awesome.

There are close to 32,000 people playing H3 right now and only 4,304 on H2...thats craziness.
