Wii want to play, but can't.

I went on a little expedition today to grab Super Paper Mario and pick up a Wii. Evidently Wii's are still pretty hard to get these days. Every store on this side of Huntsville was completely sold out. After talking with some of the sales people, I heard stories of people waiting outside their stores until the shipments come in. It's May for crying out loud?! I'd like to have one, but I'm not sure I'm gonna break out the ole tent and hot chocolate to get my hands on it this late in the game. This is surprising. Oh well, GG Nintendo for creating a kick butt console that everyone and their mother wants (literally). I will now do what every red blooded geek would do.. turn to the large system of tubes they call the internet for help.
If anybody sees one in your neck of the woods or knows where I can get one let me know.
BTW: Target on University has 2 360 Elites if anybody wants one. I hear those are not so easy to come by as well.

Sparkman Dr Walmart had them two days ago.
That is a little ridiculous. Six months after the 360 launch 360s were in plentiful supply, and they have a lot more advanced hardware than the Wii.
It's funny to see how scarce 360s were in my area, and now I can go into a Best Buy and find a ginormous pile of Premium 360s.
Oculus, check the Walmart at the corner of sparkman and the parkway...they had atleast 3 last sunday when we went there to buy guitar hero. Or if you cant find them there maybe check that Gamestop in the Walmart shopping area.
You could also check the comment two posts above yours.
I have never seen a Wii in any retail store. At one time, I would have bought one if I found it. I think I'm over that fever.
I'd buy a Wii if I had a lot of extra money laying around. I really enjoyed playing Wii Sports. That in itself is worth buying a Wii over I think.
Yeah, I was amazed when I saw 3 just sitting in the case at walmart...I had never actually seen one in a store either rap. As midnight said, WTF are there so few Wii's in stores? Its one thing to maybe be hard to find for a few months, but its been six months and my first viewing of one was last Sunday. Are they really selling that well like "they" say or is Nintendo only sending that few out there to fuel the demand? I bet sony wish they had that same problem :)
Sorry for the semi double post...didn't see yours and was trying to answer his question quickly before i went to church this morning.
I have a Wii...will share friend code if asked.
It's extremely popular because everyone and their brother wants one, not just gamers.
What is a friend code?
Update: Thanks for the help everyone. We found one yesterday when we happened to be in Tennessee for the day for other reasons. We accidentally found a gamestop and the guy had 4 Wiis in stock.
Instead of gamertags, they hand out friend codes as unique identifiers. It's kind of like an IP address. It's a long string of numbers that identifies you online.
You forgot to use the words "cumbersome" and "ridiculous."
Guys, Nintendo is breaking new ground with an online console gaming service. Nobody did this 5 years ago and made mistakes and successes for Nintendo to learn from. Let's cut them some slack.
By the way: Super Paper Mario is freaking cool except for the dialog, I prefer Wii bowling to the real thing, and Wii Boxing will wear your ass out, seriously.
Things the Wii doesn't have that leaves me scratching my head: RJ45 Port on the back. It comes with wi-fi built in, but I had to buy a USB2.0->RJ45 adapter since I'm not running a wireless router. DVD play. The Wii will not play DVDs, it is said that a Japanese version will in the future, but we aren't going to get it. Simple friend system. Enough said, friend codes are strange.
Things that I haven't used yet but make it worth its weight in gold: Classic games. Supposedly I can buy for download all of the classic nintendo games I loved. For a platformer type system, this is the coolest thing ever. I can't wait to play Super Metroid when or if it's available. If your like me and your NES and > 100 games got accidentally sucked into a yard sale singularity vortex then you'll be glad you can now play these games on the Wii. It also has Sega Genesis games (who would have thought that ten years ago).
Care to share it? I might just create a thread where everyone can post theirs if they have one.
Nintendo is doing this on purpose I think, I mean come on already, you going to tell me that Nintendo can't ramp up production and a low end next gen console?
I do own a wii by the way but I was smart enough to pre-order it back in the day.
Before some of you decide to get smart and say something like "why would a company delay manufacturing and lose money on purpose?" Let me just ask you this, WHY would Nintendo not do their very best to step up manufacturing when they know that there is a HUGE demand for the system? I don't recall it taken this long for the gamecube or the N64. Frankly I would not be in a huge hurry to rush out and get one if I were some of you, there are hardly any good games at all, there is Zelda, paper Mario, wii play but that gets old quickly and same for the wii sports, Mario party 8 might be cool but other then that, the only title I see coming down the pipe in the next 4 months worth buying is Metroid 3. ( this is just my Opinion though. )
I'm pretty sure that they are trickling back into stores now...finally. The last few times I have been to Walmart and Bestbuy I have seen atleast 3 there each time. Now if only I could find a spare $290 to purchase one, that seems to be in even less supply.
I was in a lot of stores today looking for Shadowrun. I didn't see one Wii. I saw one 360 Elite. I saw several 360 Premiums.
