This Thursday the 3rd of May you'll be able to download four new multiplayer maps for Gears of War. The download will cost you 800 Microsoft points ($10) and will become free on September 3rd. Click 'read more' for descriptions and screenshots of each map from Major Nelson:
Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.

Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.

Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.

Subway: Timgad's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

Whoa, The Actual Sex™!
Are there actually Kryll in Bullet Marsh that can kill you? I wonder how that would look like at the bottom left corner of the screen.
"Spartan Kim [Insert image of Kryll here] Spartan Kim"
I'm excited for the new maps.
That's a good point. I'm
That's a good point. I'm also curious where the "safe" lighted portions of the map will be when you shoot the box to turn off the lights and invite the Kryll. There's got to be somewhere that's lighted or else everyone on the map would instantly die. Can you turn the lights back on after they've been turned off?
Should be interesting.
Uh, oh
Uh, oh. Looks like there will be some GoWing pretty soon.

New maps, can't wait! Should be fresh and exciting since I still consider the "other" new maps to be fresh and exciting.
Shouldn't the quotes go
Shouldn't the quotes go around "new"? I'm not trying to like call you out or anything but quotes really bother me if they aren't used corectly and I just want to know your reasoning for putting them around other instead of new. I mean this in the nicest way i was just losing alot of time thinking about your comment and the use of the quotaions and I had to say something. Now the quote as defined by my second grade spelling and grammer book should only be used when quoting some one exactly or when using them figuratively. i.e. I'm not sure that's how you "use" those. Just wondering if you see my point. Now believe me I'm not doing this to be an ass I don't ever correct anyone's spelling or grammer because I am probably the worst speller I know, it's just the quotes...I don't know why.
lol! It's okay, Jonathan.
lol!
It's okay, Jonathan. You are so busy and all, you don't have time to worry about spelling and crap. :)
I've never met someone whose
I've never met someone whose pet peeve "was" quotation misuse. My pet grammatical peeve is random capital letters. You ought to see some of the words that my Marines try to capitalize.
O RLY?
Yeah, don't use quotation marks like that. That's what italicizing is for.
Strangely enough, I knew I
Strangely enough, I knew I used them wrong, but did it anyway. I just tried to put an emphasis on "other", so I should have said "other."
I know I used the above quotes correctly.
Just purchased and
Just purchased and downloaded the new maps. First impressions:
-All are interesting. Process is the least interesting of the four. I think I like Subway the best.
-Each map is roughly symmetrical and centered around a longshot on one side and a boomshot on the other.
-Shooting the generator in Bullet Marsh turns it off for 20 seconds (I timed it). The lights that go dark are for a very limited and asymmetrical portion of the map. Bullet Marsh has two level that are long and cross each other perpendicularly. Spawns are symmetrical. The Kryll will eat your shit whole if you wander into the dark, even with the generator still on. Lighting and textures are very dark with Kryll circling overhead. Very cool.
-The use of poison gas in Garden is very interesting. The center garden has a HOD and the garden to each side has a longshot (3 total gardens). You can turn off the gas for a short time (didn't time it, but guessing 20 seconds) by pressing three green/red buttons on a control panel outside each garden. You must press all three to turn off the gas. This makes you vulnerable for several seconds (enough to be downed). I am unsure how often I will screw with turning off the gas. Map is very bright and colorful. Very cool.
-Process is pretty normal. There's some interesting looking imulsion vats and an inulsion lake on either side of the structure, but other than that the structure and textures are very bland. No button/switches/generators/etc. OK.
-Subway is pretty cool because of design, IMO. Spawns are asymmetrical. One team spawns at ground level near a flight of stairs going down into the subway. The other team spawns in the subway near the opposite flight of stairs leading to ground level. There are two subway tracks that you'll have to jump in/out of and a boomshot in the center of them. Subway cars on either end house a torque bow. Three flights on stairs lead out of the subway. The center flight is the largest and a small defensive position is placed at the top of the center stairs. Opposite this position, looking down into the middle of the subway, is a longshot. Above ground there is a heavy rainstorm and leaves fly around with the wind. A newspaper vending machine has some interesting headlines. I have a plan for setting up a mutually supporting defensive position above ground that channels the enemy into the stairwells. I'm curious to see if it works.
In total defiance of all XBL protocols I got randomly put into a player match with someone who wanted to just run around and look at the maps, just like me. He even had mature and interesting things to say about the maps. The universe will surely implode. Looking forward to playing some GoW tonight.

Very interesting writeup of the maps. I'm interested, but I don't know if I'm ready to purchase.
I wanted to mention something about your last paragraph. Xbox360 games use the Feedback/Gamerzones to match you up with mature people. It works most of the time, but only if you use it. Halo 2's does not work. Halo 2 gave matchmaking a bad rep.
I remember playing the CNC3 demo and people kept quitting on me within the first fifteen seconds. I kept submitting "Quit Early" feedback against them. After half a dozen times of doing this, I got three or four mature, dedicated individuals in a row. So it works. Use it.

I'm off today, but I'm building a super computer.
I don't have much interest in playing GoW anymore. Maybe I can be convinced.
GoW
GoW has turned out to be a great game. It'll probably stay as one of my favorite games to play for quite a while. It's completely team oriented, so much so that you HAVE to have a decent group of players to do well. It's being kindof overrun right now by other games, there's some bull crap that goes on every now and then within GoW, but I think I will always enjoy how drastically different and well made the game is. I'm not saying I won't take a break from it when some of the other games come out, I just know I'll probably always be a fan of the brand.

FB and I played for about an hour this week and I was reminded of how great a game it is. I'd like to explore the new maps with THX'ers.
O RLY?
Process is the least interesting of the four maps, you say? That's a good thing to hear, because Process is the only map I've played so far, and I found it a cool map nonetheless.
