We want your HALO 3 screenshots here. Add yours.
The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
It looks like we are going to have a match tonight at 8:00 pm CST. It has taken 2 weeks to actually see this happen, so my fingers are still crossed. Keeping my fingers crossed all this time has really made daily activities more difficult and generally made life less enjoyable, so I hope this works out.
The roster tonight will be comprised of THX Midnight, THX Oculus, THX WillDaBeast and myself - more than likely. Sparda normally plays with us, but his box is on the (triple-red) blink, so things don't look good for him.
We'll post match results soon if all goes well.

Get notified of game nights and important THX announcements via the hushedcasket Twitter account. You can get the messages on your cell phone, through email, Facebook, and many other ways. Here's how it goes down.

This is just my opinion on the matter and should be taken as such
Looking forward to it.

Foulbreed, I put
Foulbreed, I put an extra 'match communication' for this game in the TWL settings asking them if they are ok with the settings. I want to get them to say officially 'Yes' so they can't refute it later. I'm not arrogant about it, I just don't want anyone to have to go to the trouble of contacting the admins again. BTW, the blitzkrieg technique I did this morning on TWL worked, we are ranked #2 overall now.
I also recommended that if they want a lag test, that we do it on a 1-round map that isn't in the list of maps we are playing for that match, then we restart the game with the official match settings. This would eliminate any conflict that we have had before with n00bs shooting us during a lag test.
Fingers still crossed
The other team did not get online until 8:30 and even then they made no effort to contact us. We were already having fun playing customs, so the match did not happen. GG's to everyone that did play last night. We had a great turnout until the new schoolers went to bowling in the middle of a week at 9:00 pm(?!).
J00 newbs need to get on
J00 newbs need to get on IRC. Instant messaging and IRC channels almost totally eliminate the hours of lag time between waiting on someone to visit a website to post a message. It'll greatly reduce the scheduling conflicts.
Wait - does that require I
Wait - does that require I sit at a computer? No thanks. The problem is not really the format. The problem is people sticking to their word. Agreeing to be online so that a private chat can happen is not really that hard and should be relatively painless. Sitting on my computer in an IRC channel and having someone be a "no-show" is still no better. At least on XBL I can sit on my couch, playing games with my friends while I wait. I think I would only use IRC if I was going to be on my PC anyway - like if we were playing some PC game match.
I guess the hundreds of H2
I guess the hundreds of H2 players at MLG were wrong then.
I think people are more likely to stick to their word when you interact with them in real-time. Things come up. Kids have to work late, work schedules change, have school projects, are grounded, etc. If you could interact in real-time, then matches could be set up immediately reducing the time between challenging a team and actually playing the match. Reducing that time greatly will reduce the likelihood of something else coming up mid-challenge and people not sticking to their word.
Additionally, you could set up scrimmages and matches with other teams at the same time and get instant feedback from them. If a team's got 4 online and looking for a scrim or match, you'll find them. Contrast that with a team having 4 online, wanting to play someone, but having a team not show up to the date they arranged days earlier or being unable to find another team to play.
Finally, you could probably find a TWL admin idling on the IRC channels to help you out with teams not reporting matches. That problem could get solved quicker.
I have no idea if GoW IRC channels exist. I would bet that they do and that TWL has links to them. If not, then it could be introduced to a community of gamers.
It's more technical, will require a computer, but will allow you to play more matches against more teams and coordinate playing times.
MLG is the premiere console league. There is a reason why even the semi-pro teams on MLG don't use webpages to setup matches and scrim.
I am saying is there is less disappointment by real-time communications.
That is my onion on the mattress and should be eaten as such.
Hundreds of people do all
Hundreds of people do all kinds of things. That doesn't mean I want to do them or that it fits with my lifestyle. Like I said, I don't want to sit at a computer unless I have to. I don't really want to interact in real time with random nubs for random scrims. The TWL site is setup for the minimal organization that should be needed for casual play. If the other teams would simply do what they say, I'd be fine. I wouldn't need to go buy a mic for computer, download and install software and sit in front of my monitor when I would rather be in front of my TV for the couple hours I have before bed. IRC is just not a good fit IMO, given my priorities. I do recognize it fits with thousands of gamers worldwide, though.

Agree that IRC is the most
Agree that IRC is the most efficient way to set up matches. Also agree that right now I don't care enough to use it.
THX should have an IRC room.
THX should have an IRC room. Perhaps hosted on IBO?
