The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
The following is a release from the halo3.com website. Post a comment here if you are in.
Greetings Halo® Nation and thanks for your interest in participating in the Halo 3 multiplayer public beta.
The Xbox Live multiplayer public beta, which is a pre-release version of the multiplayer experience of Halo 3, is scheduled for availability in spring 2007 exclusively on Xbox 360. This beta also represents an opportunity for gamers to give information that will help in the development of Halo 3. Through the resulting feedback, Bungie Studios will be able to further refine and hone the end result of the game.
Phase one registration is now closed. If you have been selected to participate, congratulations and stay tuned for an email notification on the week of January 22-26, 2007.
For those of you that didn't make it in - fret not as this phase one was just the first of three ways to secure an invite to participate in the development of Halo 3. The next two paths of entry are the following:
- Qualifying over Xbox Live via the "Rule of Three" program in early February
- Purchasing marked packages of the upcoming game Crackdownâ„¢, which hits store shelves in the U.S. on Feb. 20
Details of both of these programs are provided below.
Rule of Three Program
The "Rule of Three" program is currently planned for gamers (17 years and older) in the 50 United States (includes District of Columbia) and Canada who have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive, a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription and the Halo 2 game.
It is a two-step process:
1. Participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions on your Xbox 360 console via Xbox Live during the three (3) day period beginning February 1st at 12:01 am EST and ending February 3rd at 11:59 pm EST.
2. After the three day window is over, head back over to www.halo3.com on February 5th and register.
If you are one of the FIRST 13,333 to do this (and meet the above requirements) you will receive an invite notification in February to participate in the Halo 3 Beta.
Please note that if you registered to participate in the Halo 3 Beta during Phase One and were not selected, that does not preclude you from registering again for during Phase 2.
Crackdown
When Crackdown hits store shelves (Feb 20 - North America, Feb 22 - Asian territories, Feb 24 - European markets), and you still haven't secured a place in the Halo 3 multiplayer public beta you can still get in via specially marked boxes of Crackdown. These boxes of Crackdown include an invite to participate in the coveted Halo 3 multiplayer beta program when it becomes available. When the Halo 3 multiplayer beta surfaces in spring 2007, those owners of Crackdown that have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription simply need to load their copy of Crackdown into Xbox 360 and use the disc as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace and join the battle in Halo 3 multiplayer.
Hopefully this information provides some additional clarity. See you online!
*Limit one registration / Halo 3 beta invite per person and Xbox Live gamertag. Your invitation is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. The Halo 3 beta is available in English only.

I always assumed the beta would be out around the same time Crackdown came out. I guess I was wrong, because once you have the code, you can "participate in the coveted Halo 3 multiplayer beta program when it becomes available."

I'm guessing the beta will
I'm guessing the beta will go live on April 1. The alpha build is codenamed "Pimps at Sea" and April 1 is the day that Bungie goes all out with PAS.
Woot! I'm in!
I got two emails. One said that I would be notified in the next two days if I was in. A few minutes later I got the email below.

This sucks!
BTW, How do you quote something on this thing?!?!
Woot! I'm in!
Just got two emails. One of them told me that I'd get an email in the next two days letting me know if I'm in or not. The other one was this.

"Your invitation is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash."
I guess that means you can't sell your code on eBay. Whatever code they give us must be tied to our gamertags. I doubt the Crackdown ones will be, though...
Man, this sucks!
Man, this sucks!

I'm going to be REALLY, REALLY PISSED if I don't get in. Unbelievably so.

Yep. I got that email just
Yep. I got that email just before I got the invite email.
So far, I've got messages from about dozen friends saying they got in. Maybe some THX'ers will get invites soon.
(There's always Crackdown...)
I am....
A chose one!
Keep it clean, I'm rollin!
New Formula
is this the new formula? Has Bungie found a way to have a double release of their games, creating all of the publicity twice?
As it stands without the invite, Halo 3, altogether will cost $160.00 because of Crackdown and the Legendary Edition. Now if the Zephyr 360 is released anytime during this, there's another $400 or so, so we are looking at a grand total of $560.00. Oh well, I guess technology really is a subscription.
Hmm.. My email
Hmm.. I got a slightly different email..
"Dear Mike,
I am sorry to inform you that you have been rejected for the Halo 3 beta testing. In no way do we mean to hurt your feelings, or cause you any more grief than necessary, but we felt we needed to tell you to be fair. It is said that if you truly love something, then you should let it go, well, we ask you to let the idea that you will be beta testing with your friends go. We would like to point out that it is not you, it's us. Don't worry about it, it happens to lots of men your age. We don't think any less of you because of it. We know that your friends may be rubbing it in your face right now, and we apologize. "Pimps at Sea" will haunt your friends list for the next few months, but you should look past that. When you finally get Halo 3 it's ok that all of your friends will be pwning you with their 6 month head start advantage. It's not like you were exactly the best Halo 1 or 2 player, so you can just transfer your frustration over to Halo 3 when it is released. Thanks, and I hope you are able to look past this slight oversight on our part... or just go buy Crackdown you cheapskate."

Just a quick question regarding the Halo 3 Beta. Back in January I was invited to participate in the Beta through an e-mail. I have not had heard anything else and the Beta is released tomorrow. Does anyone know anthing about this or did I miss an email with the code to play the Beta?

MS hasn't sent out that email to those kind of users that were selected through that program.
That email is expected to be sent out tomorrow (Wed) morning at the earliest.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping I did not miss anything and I would get the e-mail tomorrow. I will be able to sleep tonight (my son is excited as well) with the anticipation of playing the beta tomorrow.
