The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
I just got back from our second and final day of the AMF Youth Bowling tournament at Pin Palace. You guys will be pleased to know that THX was represented well. Although I do not know the final scores and placing, this I should know by next Saturday, I have a general idea. I also have some pics for you. My dad took the first day pics and he did not get pics of the scores like I wanted ...but neither did I today, so I guess it really doesn't matter.
Pheonix and Shyzza, but mainly Pheonix can correct any errors in my very vague report. BTW, while I am thinking of it, kudos to Pheonix for being our team... supporter, encourager... voice of doom and, most importantly, score keeper. Without him we would not have had the foggiest idea how we were doing during gameplay.
It is worth noting, before I get started, that the team we bowled
with (not exactly against) was, for the most part, a scratch bowling team. The good news is this means that have virtually no handicap (I think two members had a very low handicap, like 11 or something). The bad news is that there is a very good reason for this. They are good enough to not need the handicap. However, as long as we are able to bowl our average, we are usually safe.
-Singles-
We started out yesterday with our singles, thats ffa or slayer settings for all you gamers. You bowl three games and your total score is counted.
Shyzza did amazingly well! Especially sense he has the highest handicap of all four of us. He far outdid his average and I believe blew all of our scores to bits. Whether he did to same to the rest of the league or players in the tournament remains to be seen. Hubcap and I also bowled above average and had decent total scores. Myth was incredible and although he may not have had as high of a total as Shyzza, he scored a 6 bagger (that's 6 strikes in a row) one of his games and came in a close second. I think it is a very real possibility that THX will have all four members in the top ten... maybe even five.
-Doubles-
We then moved on to doubles... things kinda went downhill from here. They paired the highest handicap on our team with the lowest. So Shyzza and I made up one team and Hubcap and Myth made the other. I am not certain just how well Hubcap and Myth did... I was much too busy kicking things and being angry to notice (hats are not allowed and its a real shame... I had nothing to throw). Shyzza did, I believe, pretty good and I think he carried our team in the doubles. I, as you can no doubt guess by now, did not fare so well. I don't even remember what I bowled... it was bad. I doubt that THX will be in first place in the doubles tourney, however, I think we will be in the top five... I hope.
-Team- (four man)
Today we bowled our team competition. It's a good thing too, because after six games we were getting very tired yesterday... I am glad we had a night of sleep. How did we do? Well, we beat the team we bowled against... thanks to our handicap. The first game started out extremely well, even though we weren't exactly doing great. The other team was dismally bad and I thought it was going to be a cakewalk. However, they staged a late comeback, and eventually beat us... scratch that is. With our handicap we blew them away. Hubcap was struggling the first two games. I really don't know what was wrong, but he was just not getting anything. Second game we all sucked monkey balls, as Shyzza would say. All of us looked like idiots out there. The other team smashed us even with our handicap. I was about ready to throw my ball in the garbage and never bowl again. But, as luck would have it, the very next game the tables were turned. I bowled my highest game ever (203? ... yeah I know its pitiful), hubcap bowled as more than his first two games combined. Shyzza started getting his garbage-BS again, and Myth did well too. We beat the other team without our handicap! It was rape. I, of course, was angry anyway, because I thought I could have done better and I hadn't looked at my total score. :) Pheonix had come in earlier and told me that we had beat them scratch that game. We then found out about the match total and were all very happy. THE END
...I think we did well overall in this competition, we will see.
This was written in haste and from very bad memory. It should be read as such.
I will upload some pics later.
Update: Pic is kinda grainy... not sure why.

I do not understand
I do not understand "handicap" and "scratch." Could you please explain?
Handicaps are given to those
Handicaps are given to those bowlers who average under 200... I think. Whatever your average is your handicap is the difference to make your score 200. My average is 136, therefore, my handicap is 64.
A scratch bowler is an individual who does not have a handicap. So his average is around 200.
I think.
Can you have a negative
Can you have a negative handicap if you average over 200?
I don't think so.

Wow, just noticed this...
Wow, just noticed this...
Actually, I ended up coming out better than I thought. I was 1st in singles and all events in my handicap division. James, however, moved to 2nd in all events, but he still took 1st in singles.
So... we will end up having 3 or 4 plaques. I have no idea what we are going to do with the THX one.
BTW, I won $75 in a tourney a couple weeks ago. So I left with $30 more than I came with and that was for 7th place. I was kinda happy about that, even though I didn't win.
