The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
Alrighty, the time has come for me to actually start on finding a good location for this. Been waiting until I had a steady job to get gas money, (fixed), so tomorrow and Thursday afternoons I'll be doing some research and possibly driving around to scout good locations. Seen a few places around the area I'm living in right now that look/sound promising, so if anyone knows of any strip mall style space available for rent lemme know! Looking for about 2000 sq. ft with a decent size parking lot, near fast food, and preferably near a school with money, i.e. high school or college. Right now I'm down by 565/Jordan Ln, like 2 miles tops from UAH, so anything in that area is good :).

I think the corner of Bailey
I think the corner of Bailey Cove and Four Mile Post is one of the best locations in the area. The median household income is one of the highest in the state. There's a large population of children (with expendable income) as both Grissom and Huntsville high schools are very crowded.
The corner of Bailey Cove and FMP is about 1 mile from Grissom and is near major shopping outlets like the Super Target shopping center and the RAVE movie theater. Also, on the corner of BC and FMP are 2 new strip malls with 2 more under construction. Will it would probably be pricey, it think it would be a great location.
There is an old shopping center directly across from Grissom. It is older, however, I think it is in a nice location also...a few hundred yards from Grissom.
The next best location that I can think of would be on the corner of University Drive and Research Park Boulevard in the "Rosies" shopping center. There are many vacant store fronts there (which could be good and bad). I would guess that rent would be less than in SE HSV. That Wal-Mart/Super Target area on University drive is one of the busiest places in town.
Madison also has one of the highest income/capita ratios in the state. That area is very crowded with young people who have kids. A LAN center in Madison, in the right spot, would do well. I can't speak to where a good spot in Madison would be though because I not familiar with that area.
However, since there isn't a true LAN center anywhere in Huntsville or Madison, I would guess that a location would work in a lot of places and you won't have to be as strategic as you would need to be if there were already 2 or 3 LAN centers in Huntsville.
I think the best case scenario would be to own 2 LAN centers, one in SE HSV and one in Madison.
being an H-town resident all
being an H-town resident all my life, and very familiar with the area and it's demographics, i can tell you that you simply cannot go wrong if you opt for the corner of Bailey Cove and 4 Mile Post. other places might work, and would probably be decent with less rent, but this area would allow ANY business to flourish. the demand to supply ratio for a service like this would be highest in that area. you not only get the SE H'ville residents, but Hampton Cove/Owens Crossroads is a short drive over the mtn, as well, and THAT is the area projected to grow more than any other in the H'ville/Madison area, especially with all the new jobs that B.R.A.C. is bringing.
I really like that part of
I really like that part of town. It has a very nice atmosphere.
Party?
DJ, do you think you can have this place somewhat up and running by early Sept. this year? It'd be cool to have my birthday party there.

Well, I'd planned on having it up and running by June/July, but the guy that was supposed to take care of all the paperwork side of it backed out about a month ago and never told me, so it's going to take a bit longer to get it running. :(

Is there anything I can do
Is there anything I can do to help?
Also, my mom says she'll volunteer to help you with the floor plan. She's good with Feng Shui, so she'll be able to help you maximize efficiency, incorporate everything, etc. etc. etc.
Madison
For Madison. It's got all of the high income stuff your talking about. Madison is all about Hughes Rd.. Madison Blvd. is also an option, but do this at your own risk, I'm not sure of the kind of traffic it gets there, and I also think there's some kind of gaming center at the Eastern end somewhere. There was a theme park/gocarts on Madison Blvd that went out of business a year or two ago. Hughes Rd. has a recreation complex near the police station that probably has some empty space already built. There's a skate park there, but I'm not sure how well they do. I've heard rumors that their prices are too high and they don't make much money. There's also lots of business at the northern end of Hughes Rd. that would draw attention to you. On the other side of 72 is actually Huntsville property, so there might be some kind of tax benefit or penalty. There's a taco bell which draws just about everyone after 9:00. I don't think there's many buildings that aren't full there though.
Don't know much about the LAN Center business, so I couldn't really tell you how well you'd do in Madison. High schoolers are very clickish, so they become known as the "Kids who hang out at the LAN Center", but maybe it would work to your benefit. There already are "Kids who hang out at the Texaco", "Kids who hang out at the Auto Parts Store", and "Kids who hang out at the Kroger". I wonder if college students would go to a LAN Center.
There's a Multiplex (Single big rentable room) in Harvest that pretty much stays closed all of the time except when there's a few bands playing there every week or so. There's not much near it, but the music community here knows about it. One option is to work out some deal with one of these places and try out your luck with some advertising, then your not stuck with the monthly bill of paying for space. I'm sure there's also places that rent HDTV's and equipment. This would all be in the name of keeping things cheap. Like maybe start with tournaments or something (if I'm guessing that LAN Center's are for gaming).
Good luck.
Madison Blvd. would provide
Madison Blvd. would provide relatively easy access for UAH too.
Bob Jones High School might
Bob Jones High School might have more kids at it than any other school in Alabama.
What else are you gonna do
What else are you gonna do when it's 2:30 PM, there are two active school zones on Hughes Rd, and you're stuck in 25 MPH traffic for miles? Heck, might as well pull over and play some Counterstrike.
Madison is a fad... they are
Madison is a fad... they are like the whiney neighbors next door to a really cool party. "Hey, keep it down over there!"
Huntsville is where it's at, for sure.
