Gears Ladder at TWL

I would like to do this. The large roster with any four people playing does sound a lot like the H2 clan system, which works out well for us.

Are you [cG] rapture? I registered as THX Midnight, and then requested change to [THX] Midnight to match this convention.

It appears one of us should create a team for THX. Does it matter who? If not, I\'ll do it tonight. It appears you are welcome to jump into the GoW ladder late, you just forfeit points not earned, so we\'d have no chance of winning this season. However, their forum looks like a good place to meet players and schedule scrims.

This is just to display my interest and should be treated as such.

Wow, when I went to register I was reminded, I used to play on TWL ladders for Americas Army. I was in a clan called Dead Cell or }{DC}{. Yeah, I didn\'t play very much, but I did a few times. Those were fun times. I still see some of those guys playing AA. It was a crappy clan though, very much inactive now. I had totally forgotten.

Midnight: I cannot see how to join either. When I went and looked at other teams, I was able to view their roster and there was additionally a \"join\" button available for the clicking. Only the THX profile is visible when I look at the team page. Please advise. Over.

OK, I think you have to enroll the team in a competition in order for players to join. The two GOW competitions right now are 1) a 4v4 tournament that has been going on for a while, with two divisions that appear to be full and 2) a GOW power ladder

I enrolled THX in the power ladder. This doesn\'t sign us up for any matches. After we get our roster we can challenge any team at will. Points are awarded to winner and loser based on adding and subtracting from the default 1000 points you start with. The team with the most points is #1. Pretty simple.

I think everyone should be able to join now. Let me know if I\'m wrong and I\'ll dive back in.

I did have to join a ladder in order for others to join. You should now see the join button, after which you\'ll enter the join password: undead. It appears that the GUID part of your profile is unnecessary for Gears, according to this FAQ:

Last night we had 6 people on the team. Those 6 can go ahead and challenge any team they want at any time.

I say we cut our teeth by challenging one of the worse teams, like FGM or RG. When can 3-4 of us play?

Unsure about WHO can do the challenging. Guessing that Captains are the ones that can officially challenge another team and get it in the system. Captains are probably also the ones that get e-mail notification when being challenged.

But, other players on the team can begin now contacting other teams and scheduling matches...even if it\'s just a scrim and not an official match.

Matches will take a while to schedule unless you are using instant messaging. So, don\'t expect to get 4 on Saturday evening and find a match in 30 minutes. Not only does our team have to have 4 players online, but the other team must also have 4 players online. It could be difficult to coordinate the matches.

Suggestion: Get 4 players on our team to commit to playing at a set time and Saturday and spam other teams for matches...either directly via IM when searching through the teams at the bottom...or enter the TWL forums and request a challenge.

How about 9 PM CST on Saturday for the scims? We can play before and after, but that would be the time for the actual scim. Roger up if you\'re good with that.

Your link is not working for me. Did the challenge state what maps, how many games and who hosts?

We host all matches as defender. The maps are

1. Gridlock
2. Warzone
3. Fuel Depot
4. Escalation
5. Tyro Station

I think we play best of three maps and the last two are there in case of a tie/dispute, etc. I think we get to mutually agree on the number of rounds in game. Gametype is whatever we agree on. I\'m going to push for execution.

Warzone is just the clever name of the ladder. According to the rules...which are linked above...any gametype is permissible as long as both team captains agree on it. If we can\'t agree then the match is cancelled.

So what is the roster for tonight? or do we have one? :? I mean... I am willing and would love to play, but so would others I am sure. So I was curious as to who the captains, or whoever, decided is going to play? I don\'t want to cause any problems by making assumptions.

Slayer, good question. I really don\'t know how to make a fair rotation with an emphasis on winning this early in the game. I don\'t know whether we\'re gonna mutilate or get mutilated. The first people to post in this thread were:

I say we play the first four and if someone doesn\'t make it from that four we put in Sparda, Slayer, etc. I would encourage everyone to be online at 9 PM and ready for an invite. After the match, win or lose, I would like everyone in a pre-game lobby for a post-game hotwash to share lessons learned and discuss the next match. If others can stay around we could do some customs, although I will have to leave.

I\'d like to congratulate all of tonight\'s players on a solid, sportsmanlike match. I also want to give props to FoulBreed, Oculus, and Sparda for really bringing the pain for THX\'s first TWL victory--to the tune of 18:2 rounds won:lost. Check out the screencaps.

The RTHG acted professionally and was very helpful is helping me figure out exactly how TWL works in practice. I hope our future competition acts as professionally as they did.

Points that I think got us the win:
1. Communication. We were obviously talking more than the enemy. They would often split and leave 3v2 and 4v2 scenarios.
2. Trust. AT one point Oculus told me to roll off the helo pad, and he sounded emphatic. I was engaging an enemy, and I had no idea why, but I did it. Someone had flanked me from the rear of the helo. I rolled off, we double teamed him, gg.
3. Telling someone when they\'re alone, you\'re downed, etc. Part of communication, but FB\'s shout from the cars at Gridlock directed our fires onto the remaining two locusts and we finished them off 3v2.
4. There were no all stars. Regardless of the points in each match, every single player was vital to our success in every round.

GG, guys. I\'m really looking forward to TWL now. Tomorrow I\'m gonna take a look at what teams RTHG has beaten and challenge them.

i was very impressed with the way we all played since we never played warzone as a team before. Congrats to midnight, foulbreed, and oculus. gg. hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

When\'s the next time we can have 4 players available for a match?

I\'m planning on challenging FGM and RG, two of the lower-ranked teams. Wins there would possibly give us enough points to be #1. The team we beat tonight, RTHG, beat both of those teams. As a matter of fact, RTHG beat FGM as hard as we beat RTHG.

I\'m good for pretty much any night between now and 3 Jan.

I\'m good for another. I think host advantage only helped us on a couple of rounds last game. I should be available nights from Dec. 27th to Jan. 3rd. Before and after that is possible too, but I don\'t know yet.

A suggestion: We\'ve got 11 people on the team, do we need a second THX team? Or at least, do we need to participate in another tourney or ladder (if their is one) and have people jumping back and forth (this might be the best option, because we then get to still pool all of us together). It is possible to join the tournament late, we\'d just have to forfeit the three or so games we\'ve missed.

A note on the gametype. I didn\'t read anywhere that said that the gametype had to be warzone for the ladder. I know that the guys we played last night have been playing warzone in the tournament because it\'s required there, so maybe that\'s why they said they wanted warzone. I also think that the warzone gametype actually helped us a little, because of the way that we play. I enjoyed having the Torque bow and Hammer of Dawn removed from the maps. I think it promoted teamwork a little better, and I liked not having to fight over power weapons (although I don\'t mind a challenge).

That doesn\'t sound fair. It sounds like you just want to slaughter a team.

I do want to slaughter a team, but I want to do it fairly.

Since when did anyone win a war by playing nice? I fight my strengths against others\' weaknesses. Friendly surfaces against enemy gaps. Find critical vulnerabilities and exploit them. Trample the weak, hurdle the dead.

On a more directly relevant note, the ladder is based on points. Eventually the top teams will have to play each other in order to take #1. Until then, the smart thing to do is build a base of points so future losses don\'t impact us as harshly, if they come. We also want to play the lesser teams before they lose more games to others and the points value of beating them goes down.

This is my first ladder, but that\'s my analysis. Any other opinions?

Just looked and the #1 team is #1 because they\'ve beat FGM, the whipping boys of the ladder...twice. It\'s a thinking man\'s game.

I noticed that. It looks like we\'re being attacked as well by A-tod.

Second match is done. THX wins again and moves into 1st on the ladder (albeit, by beating the bottom two teams). We are being attacked by ATOD, and they have a much more impressive record than our previous teams. That should prove to be a challenging match.

I did the same thing for the pending match dates, and the anti-smurf identifiers. The site has great functionality, but the usability needs an overhaul. It looks like they started adding features, and before long it got hard to navigate.

Match with ATOD is unscheduled. We have started match comms, but the other captain has not replied with the date and time he wants.

We have been passed on the TWL ladder, Team v3 v3 is the one, and they have challenged us as well I believe. Does anyone know what the status is on who is playing any of these matches?

I do not believe anyone has successfully coordinated a match since we last played. I would be interested in playing some more on TWL. MLG has been enough to keep me busy thus far, so now that it's over I can see switching back to TWL.

Match results? I haven't seen the last few match results posted to the site, let alone write-ups of the games.

Is this something that you guys will or will not be doing in the future?

From last view, I believe we are only lacking a post for 2 matches. And both of those games were from this week.
