As JDOGG mentioned, the Halo 3 beta will only be available to a chosen few. Maybe if we all register, one of us might get chosen.

November 30, 2006 - Sad news. The previously announced Halo 3 Beta will not be available for every eager Xbox 360 gamer. In a press release teasing the December 4 Halo 3 trailer, Microsoft revealed that gamers will \"register for the opportunity to be one of the select members\" of the public beta. Just because you love Halo doesn\'t guarantee you will be able to enjoy the multiplayer experience this spring.

On December 4, the millions of hopefuls in North America and Europe can go to halo3.com to sign up for the beta. You thought the Internet hit a crawl as consumers tried frantically to purchase a PS3? This could be worse. The good news is that this likely means fears that Microsoft would charge a premium to play the Beta are unfounded. Some thought Microsoft might control the size of the Beta with a small service fee, but since the Beta will be limited by a selection process, that seems highly unlikely.

The 60-second trailer airs in North America during ESPN\'s Monday Night Football on December 4. The trailer, which will be available online and on the Xbox Live Marketplace following its television debut, features live action and in-game footage. It promises to offer \"telling new hints\" about the upcoming first-person shooter.

\"Halo is a pop culture phenomenon! The Halo franchise has changed the face of interactive entertainment and it\'s only fitting that we take an innovative approach to how we market and advertise the brand,\" said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp. \"This invites a new audience with a rich back story, and continues to galvanize gamers around the world for the launch of Halo 3 in 2007.\"

That\'s too bad. I was looking forward to all of us getting into the beta and examining HALO 3. I bet we\'ll get a chance sooner or later.

I\'m betting the beta is to test XBOX Live. By having a selected group of testers, they can control the number of users online. After MS sees that the beta can support the initial group of testers, then more users will be selected or the beta will be opened.

The beta won\'t last forever, though. The beta will time out after a certain amount of time. In a recent 1up podcast Bungie (Frankie or Sketchfactor) seemed to indicate that the beta wouldn\'t last too long. So, that kind of kills my theory.

Personally, it\'s a win-win situation for me:

1) I get into the beta, I get to play Halo 3 sooner!
2) I don\'t get into the beta, Halo 3 will be fresh and exciting when I play on launch day!

Of course, they probably require you to be 18 or older :(

I just hope the beta testers identify potential cheating methods and those methods are addressed in the final release. I\'ll try everything in the book to see if I can cheat in H3 beta if it means it\'ll be addressed in H3.

I\'m getting a flash error in Firefox saying I need to upgrade. Even though I have flash 9 installed. However according to HBO front page, it works properly in IE.

So, maybe they have said and I just haven\'t noticed, but when do we know if we are chosen to get the Beta? and when do we get it? I am sure they have said somewhere, but I haven\'t seen anything. I have such a bad habit of speed reading, er, just skipping stuff, that I might have totally missed it.

Slayer, I already received an email notification saying that I am \"in\", but that is all the details they have. I assume they will follow up shortly.

The site says that the program is limited to one entry/gamertag/household, I believe. Anyway, I only entered once.

I registered pretty early, Oc. I suppose it\'s possible that they haven\'t gotten around to notifying everyone yet. I don\'t check my email that often, so I\'m not sure when I got the message, but it was probably last night. I\'ll check the time stamp and let you know.

I also registered really early on. I was amazed that I actually was able to complete the registration. BUt I haven\'t received any kind of email, so I guess I won\'t be getting one.
