Is it okay if I don\'t haul my computer monitor over this time? It’s just such a pain, and if we don\'t need it, I\'d rather not bring it. Also, we need to specify whether those of us with original Xboxes need to bring them with, or instead of our 360s. Last time I was kicking myself for not bringing my original Xbox.

You don\'t have to bring that big monitor. Just bring your VGA cable and you can use one of my LCD monitors.

And, bring your old XBOX if you like. You\'ll have to find a TV for it.

Am I missing something? Is this a H1 lan? It seems like everyone wants to play GoW, Guitar Hero, and use 360s. I guess I\'ll just be playing H1 single player on a 360 in a corner. How I love playing Halo 1 on a 360, with the frame rate drops, network \"out of sync\" errors, and networking lag. It is wonderful. Brings back my days of playing Halo PC.

By the way, I\'ll bring my component cables for my Xbox and my X2VGA. Just in case people don\'t have those cables.

Most people enjoy a change of pace after several hours of a single game. I think GoW is a good alternative to H1 when we get burned out,

Oh, there will be plenty of Halo played. Even if the all the old schoolers didn\'t already want to, I\'m sure Midnight would require it. I was just talking with Shyzza this morning about how H1 is already amazing on a 360. Add the refresh delay of HD and we\'ll all be cussing at how spectacular it is. I\'m just going to think \"xbc\" and hope that covers it.

This is fine with me. I personally won\'t take part. It just seemed to me everyone was talking about playing anything but Halo 1.

I\'m more specifically frown on the idea of using 360s for Halo 1. I think this is a horrible idea. 360s + Halo = NOT Fun. Numerous problems abound with the 360 backwards compatibility. In addition you lose nothing by using the original Xbox. Except maybe lack of HD cables which I have two off not including my X2VGA.

I hope we LAN H1 100% of the time. We can\'t play that online.

GoW is fun, but we can play it online all day long. It\'s like when I went to Dolbex\'s for a HALO LAN. It ended up being 95% H2. Uh. We can play H2 online all day long anytime we want. Little H1 was played and I felt like playing H2 was a waste of gaming time.

I don\'t see the benefit to playing GoW at this LAN. We rarely play H1. GoW is getting a lot of play right now. The only thing I would like to experiment with is lag on LAN versus lag online but even then I\'d rather play H1. I may be nice to show the Reverend and some other what GoW is like. Other than that, I hope the H1 action doesn\'t stop.

You guys can bring GoW, but I\'d play Hang \'Em High TS to 200 kills all night long before I\'d play a game of GoW.

I think there are enough xboxes still around in the group to at least keep a 4 box halo game running the whole time on original equipment.

Yeah, a 2-hour game of CTF on BG does sound dreamy. Seriously. Midnight is right though. We almost always take a break from Halo at some point. It may be no more than \"twisted system\", but it\'s pretty normal. I think showing showing off GoW to the people that haven\'t seen it would be a great way to take a break. If nothing else, we might bring a couple of extra people into the online experience.

On JayWhy\'s comment, how many people are bringing original xboxen? We only have one at our house now. I might be able to fix Hubcap\'s in time, but I\'m not sure. The last couple of LAN\'s have been sparse in that dept. and I really didn\'t like mixing the two systems. It pisses off the people on the 360\'s even more.

I guess I have been out of the loop on mixing systems. Can you explain which one has an advantage?

The 360 suffers from a loss in performance when emulating the original xbox. My personal experience has been specifically a loss in framerate and all-out network lagginess. An entire LAN setup with old xboxen is much more fun. Mixing the systems is just bad because the players on the original xbox have a distinct advantage, IMO. I played on both and did noticeably better on the orginal xbox. I also hate the 360 controller with Halo. The sensi is different on the analog sticks.

Yes, the 360\'s controllers seem to have looser analog sticks, and the button placement is slightly different than the controller-S. No doubt, H1 is better on original xboxen.

I say bring as many original Xboxen as possible to facilitate the H1 LAN. That\'s the objective of the LAN, so why half-ass it.

Make sure you bring HD Xbox cabling if you have it. I'll bring my the O.G. Xbox component cables. Plus my x2vga.

I won't be able to be there for long, gg work, but I will leave a few things behind for use. Keep in mind this is all 50/50 if I can remember where half of it is in my storage unit, but:

1 or 2 Xboxen
6-10 Dukes
Possibly cables for both Xboxen
1 or 2 copies of H1 (if I can find them)
1 Video camera for record keeping :)

I'm working on getting swapped around at work, but it's a chancy thing at best, but I will be there early, noon-3ish. I think I could find my 27" TV too, as I believe it's in the front of the storage unit, but I'm not 100% sure. Only Saturday will tell.

You'd have to buy component cables for the original xbox. It didn't come with them.

How much are they, and do you get any benefit out of using it? If it helps, for instance, if I get more resolutions, or wide screen, then I'm there. Otherwise, my monitor has a composite input. Also, do they offer vga, or just component? (we're talking Original XBox)

You'll get widescreen and 420p in Halo and Halo 2 on the original xbox. It still doesn't look as good as playing it on the 360. The 360 turns up the anti-aliasing a lot, but the backwards compatibility blows on the 360 except for that so.

You can get VGA cables but you'll have to order them. Mine is called an X2VGA. VGA isn't going to give you anything special vs. component cables. Except of course, you can use your computer monitor.

On the other hand, you can pick up an original Xbox component cables at your local gamestop or ebgames. They work for the PS2, Xbox, and 360 all in one for like 10-15 dollars. There are store-branded but they work fine.

I bought one of those before I got a 360. I think I got a faulty one. With mine there were always horizontal lines across the screen. Really thin pin-stripe lines.

Did you make sure you setup your Xbox up right? I had the same issue basically. You're still probably outputting in standard def.

Here is how to fix it.

Boot up the Xbox and hit left trigger, right trigger and both analog stick buttons all at the same time. So in Halo terms that is: nade, shoot, crouch and zoom. Sounds like BS but it does work. That will switch the dashboard to hi-def and once your in there you can mess with the video settings.

I bet that was my problem... I'll have to try it sometime.

Well, I can definitely bring 2 Xboxen, and a 360, but cords for one of the Xboxen will be in short supply unless I randomly find them in my storage. The copies of H1 will be iffy depending on if I can find them fast enough. I'm also bringing all the controllers I can, which includes at a minimum 5 dukes. Depends on how easy everything is to get to and how awake I am that early :o
