Official Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion thread
This game came out today. I don\'t think it came out everywhere yet. On the site it says march 20 week so it could come hear anytime this week. Me and FB are probably going to see if we can get it tonight. I\'ve been reading alot about this game and have watched just about every movie out there for it. It sounds really good there is like 16 square miles of places to explore over 200 dungeons and like 200+ hours of game play. For the forest they studied how trees and plants grew and how like dear reacted to certain things. Then they put that into the game and had the game make the forests for them. It sounds like it\'s going to be really good and I\'m really looking forward to it. Gamespot is about to do a 12 hour marathon of them playing the game. I starts at 6pm PT till 6am PT. I plan on watching some of it at least.
Sounds like you could be a landscaper...
So... how is it?
I see three people playing this on my friends list, and everyone in #hbo (halo.bungie.org chatroom) who owns it is calling it awesome.
I\'m getting this tomorrow...
Grrr, I dunno if I can afford it. James, please convince me!
Could you peel yourself away for about five minutes to give us a brief rundown, Shyzza?
No, I don\'t think he can. :)
This game is damn good. Now I can understand why Shyzza didn\'t want to come tell us about it...
Haha Ya I\'ve been playing this almost nonstop. it\'s probably one of my favorite games ever and definitely my favorite right now. I recommend anyone buy this exspecially if you like RPG\'s even if you don\'t you will still love it.
Is it better than KOTOR?
Is it better than KOTOR?
KOTOR was the baby that happened between Oblivion and its hand.
Luckily for me, one of my friends at school here also bought the game, so we\'ll definitely talk about it at lunch all the time :)
Its tempting guys, but I really can\'t afford to spend a lot of money right now. I already blew a bunch on GRAW.
I know what you mean, Slayer. I\'m done purchasing games for a while.
While I haven\'t played this game more than maybe 10-15 hours, I thought I would throw in my bit. I have not played many RPG\'s - ever - and really do not care for them, except for KOTOR. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed the small bit of time I have spent with this one. From an immersion standpoint, this game is top notch. This is probably due to the fact that every aspect of this game appears to be realized to it\'s potential. The graphics, sound, storyline and gameplay all work well together to create a very open, believable world. Like I said, I haven\'t played it that much, relatively speaking. The game has a main quest that is supposed to take 40hrs+ assuming you didn\'t go off on any of the many side-missions. I\'m expecting to spend a good 100hrs on my run through, so I\'ll write a better review this time next year.
Gah, I\'ve got to find a way to get this one.
Now you know how I felt with CoD2, Slayer :)
is anyone having problems with oblivion freezing from time to time?
Not really...but you can hold down A while the game is booting up to clear the hdd cache. They said that will speed up load times and minor freezes if you do it every now and then.
You guys shouldn\'t go near WoW.
We would never hear from you again.

Save early, save often!
I played WoW rap. It sucked.
Hey mintz whats your level and what are you specializing in?
With school slowly consuming my life as the school year winds down, I\'ve only been able to play for about 5 hours total (which I\'m not satisfied with), so I\'m a level 2, and I specialize in being a battlemage. I use a mix of sword/shield combat with Destruction magic. Fireballs rule!
I beat the main story yesterday and it was really good. I really enjoyed this game and will continue to enjoy this game for many days if not months to come. I\'ve also got almost all the achievements. I was really disappointed with the skill of the AI. Like after the first hour or two I was unstopable. Like for the mages guild I was suppose to kill the leader of the necromancers (Bad wizards) they told me that he was strongest necromancer ever and that I should be careful like six times. so I was worried. I confronted him and two slices later he was laying on the ground. I was very disappointed. Or for the arena I killed the main fighter in like three or four slices and he didn\'t even hurt me enough to even tell my life went down at all. It didn\'t make me enjoy the game any less but it definitely wasn\'t very hard. Again I recommend this game to anyone that likes RPG\'s or likes video games in general.

lol, I think you need to go for a walk oustide for a while. Too bad you aren\'t coming on the campout this weekend.
I wish I had as much freetime as you, Shyzza ;)
This game is the best selling XBOX360 title yet: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10671/The-Elder-Scrolls-IV-Oblivion-Breaks-Record-Sales/
\"According to NPD sales figures, Bethesda\'s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has become the fastest selling Xbox 360 title to date, in North America. In addition, the PC version accounted for 13% of all Windows games sold during Oblivion\'s first week of release more than four times the percentage of the next best selling game. Currently, the standard and collectors editions rank #1 and #2, respectively, on the PC sales chart. Bethesda reports that more than 1.7 million combined units have shipped.\"
Hey Slayer what level are you and what do you specialize in?
Well, I haven\'t been to sleep in a while, so I am a little behind in my levels, er a lot behind. But I am a Warrior and I specialize in blade I guess and heavy armor. I will tell you my level later tonight, when I catch up on some shut eye.
On this one mission where you find this Akaviri item for this person. you have to go a long ways into the woods and this thing called Willow-of-the-Wisp attacked me. It\'s invisible and it\'s only attack is absorb health. So I\'m slashing him with my sword that hurts 10 and he just keeps on sucking my life away and will not die. I went through all my health potions and my weapon was damaged so much it hurt like 3. So I decided to use ranged magic and finally kill it after I went through 3 magika bars. But then ran into another one and just ran until I could portal away. That is the only trouble I\'ve had with any enemy.
P.S. My character is crummy though
I\'m a level 9 Shyzza. I don\'t know if that sucks or not.
I\'m still lvl 2 :(
I don\'t know if yall know this but there have been multiple updates out for Oblivion. Two of the downloads were focused on Mages. One was focused on theifs, and there\'s another download comoing out pretty soon for wariors. There was also horse armor download but I didn\'t download it. If you go here http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/theelderscrollsivoblivion/news.html you can read about them all. But you\'ll have to scroll thru the story\'s.
I\'m soooo looking forward to the next downloadable content coming out! You\'re going to be able to \"conquer the largest dungeon in all Cyrodiil,\" and get Mehrune\'s Razor, which allows you to \"kill foes instantly.\" I\'m so excited! Although I have to admit, I combined an Akaviri sword with a Sigil Stone to give it +20 shock damage on top of it\'s 10 attack power already, so it\'s a pretty damn mean weapon! When I sneak up behind somebody, wind up, and hit them, it takes them down instantly! It\'s so funny because they go flying about ten feet, flickering from the shock damage :D
Also, I\'m a level 9 now, finished the main quest and mages guild quest. Now for the Dark brotherhood :)
I\'ve beatin the game twice and on my third one. But I doubt I\'ll ever finish this one
P.S. I\'m like lvl 15 and I\'m unstoppable
Wow, twice already?!
There was a new patch released for Oblivion the other day, which fixes quite a few bugs.
I\'m still on my first game, and I have only played about 22 hours. :) I\'m rather proud about that.
I just started really getting into the main questline and my opinion of the game has greatly improved. I have therefore been playing more than I have in the past. It may be hard to believe, but until now I have been doing sidequests exclusively. I am guildmaster of Mages and Fighters guild, Grand Champion of Arena and halfway through Dark Brotherhood, which let me tell you makes you unstoppable when you get to Oblivion gates and crap. I recommend completing at least fighters and mages guilds before going for the main quest. I aim on getting all the gamerpoints and then quitting, for a while at least. What I like about Oblivion, from what I understand, is that even after you complete the main quest you can still do other stuff. An option I wish was available in KOTOR, KOTOR 2 or even Ocharina of Time.
BTW, its sweet being able to kill almost every daedra in your path with one swing of your sword. One swing one kill... and they fly up in the air too, kinda like Sauron swinging his sword in TFotR.
I played through the Arena before I got into the main quest. I guess that helped, especially with the Battle of .... ya know, just before three of those -blanks- -blanked- and you had to... yeah, I can\'t really talk about it without giving it away. The main quest is awesome, though. It sucks how you can\'t ever go back to -blank- because all the -blanks- are -blanked-. (If you know what I\'m talking about, gg)
I love sneaking around with my enhanced Katana, killing everyone with one swipe. You\'re right, it is hilarious to watch them fly up in the air!
I haven\'t played in a while. I probably should. It\'s more relaxing than playing Ninja Gaiden. (yes, that\'s my wall as of now)
I finished the main quest yesterday. It was pretty easy, but pretty awesome too. I like it. Now I just need to finish The Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. Won\'t be too hard.
There are around 16 Deadric Shrines across Oblivion. There marker is a Gienee Bottle. After you talk to the preist guy near the Shrine/statue he will tell what kind of offering that you need to make to get the quest.
Shrine of Nocturnal gives you the Skeleton Key. Which is basically an unbreakable lockpick. You\'ll probably want this when before you do the Thieves Guild missions.
To find the Shrine go to Leyawiin and head up the road on the right side of the river. If you look on your map in this area you\'ll see faded letters that say \"County Leyawiin\" go up the road until you reach this area. The shrine is in this area and should be easy to find.
you can go to gamespot.com to find the other shrines also.
Im stuck, I cannot finish the thieves guild quests until Bethesda fixes a bug. On the quest Ahdirji\'s Heirloom you have to steal a ring from the countess of Leyawin, which I did. However, now I cannot return the ring to Ahdirji or whatever her name is. It stinks really bad. I have to wait.
I\'m not generally a RPG guy, but I\'m going to play this one when I get home. I\'ve read a lot of good things and am really looking forward to it.
Slayer Where there 2 of Ahdarji rings in the Jewelry Box cause if there were you need to go back and put one back and only take one.
There was only one.
Ohhh. well then you\'re screwed
The coolist thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago on Oblivion. In one of the downloadable content \"Dunbarrow Cove\" after you do the mission for it. Dunbarrow Cove becomes like a house but you also have ppl that can train and sell special and very expensive items to you. One of these ppl sell stuff for bowmen. Right before I talked to her I jumped, and while in the air I entered a conversation with her. After buying some things I exited out of the dialog and fell through the floor. And beneath her was a chest floating in the air with everything that she could sell to me. I took the stuff and sold it back to her. and the items reapeared in the container so I took it again and sold it back multiple times and gained much money. I could of gotten a good $200,000 in a couple of min. which is way faster than the now useless horse money glitch that they took out with the patch. Does anyone know about this? Has anyone tried? I have not tried to repeat this glitch but if it could be done again.... :nana: :yippie:   let me know if y\'all have done this before
I didn\'t download that. See if you can reproduce it!
Ive been gettin back into this game...played for about 8-9 hours today. The first time i played it I just was goin straight through main story line and never really saw how much crap you can actually do in the game. I didnt know much about alchemy, or how to level quickest, and just a bunch of other random quests and stuff.
So whats the easiest way to make a boatload of money? I need to buy some things, but dont usually have enough money to buy things. Ive started making potions and what not, but my level isnt high yet so they dont sell for much at all. Any ideas?
Also, Im a vampire right now and I love the stat powerups you get, but not being able to go out in the day gets on my nerves. I started the quest to get the antidote for it...cause i really need to be out during the day and do some things, bein in the dark all the time blows. But Im loving this game a ton more than i did when i first opened it. There is so much to do and I have such little time...choices choices.
Jdogg you\'re on the right track. potions is one of the easiest way to make money. Most of the potions that you can make are worthless like Restore Fatigue. I stored all my worthless potions in my house and sold as many as I could carry all at once. Which was about 20-30,000 greens. And I\'ve still got a ton of potions that will alone equal around another $50,000. If your in the Thieves Guild you can steal and sell stolen goods to fences within the TG. This takes longer (I think) I\'ve fenced around 15,000 dollars worth of stolen goods. Furthermore both of these ideas are gonna take awhile but it\'s the quickest way to do so unless you can duplicate the Glitch I did earlier
You could just Dup everything. I like to Dup Grand soul gems.
You could just Dup everything. I like to Dup Grand soul gems.
How?
Lose any weapon you have, er, put it away. Equip some arrows, best if they are divisable by ten. Then pull up your fists and punch. Before you finish puching press Y, at least I think its Y... its been a while, anyway, press the button that brings up your items and stuff. Then go to your equipped arrows and press A twice. Next, flip over to whatever item you want to Dup and press X to drop it. Then exit the menu and behold your loot.
This works right now, but I am sure they are fixing a patch for it. I am assuming your version of Oblivion is up to date too.

Yeah that\'s not how you do it and yes if you\'ve signed into XBL while on Oblivion your Xbox is updated and that won\'t work
That is how you do it if your xbox is updated. It works I use it all the time. If you have not logged into XBL than there is a different way, but I don\'t remember how it works.
Yeah, it doesn\'t work since the update. Just before they released that patch, I duplicated everything I could ever need (including hundreds of lockpicks and Varland (sp?) Stones). I also exploited another glitch to get myself ~30k gold.
For some reason, I haven\'t played much since the update.
When did they update? Last time I played I could do it.
It was a month or two ago.
Well, than the Dup thing still works for me.
Well I\'ve never tried to punch an item to dup it. I\'ve always used arrows and that doesn\'t work anymore
I\'ll try Slayer\'s way later. Never heard of it before.
Yeah, I first tried the old way when I first heard of duping. It didn\'t work, but the website I was at mentioned another way for those who had updated their 360. It worked. Try the way I mentioned. If that doesn\'t work, try a website cause I may have missed something.
Coo!! :) The punch dup still works. So Jdizzle get an item that is worth alot and do what slayer siad. Make sure you do this in a place you can sell stuff cause I doubt you\'ll be able to hold 50+ things that wiegh a good bit.
I usually dup all the stuff I will actually use, carry all I can, then put what I don\'t need into a cabinet in my house.
Me too.
Yeah I\'ve done that to but once in awhile when you try to take the item out it\'ll freeze. This has happened 5+ times. I don\'t, maybe it\'s just me
Just got started today. I am a Khajiit thief specializing in agility and speed. I am only a few hundred meters past the sewers, but already amazed at the breadth of the game. I haven\'t felt immersed in a virtual world like this since GTA3. Right now I really have no clue what I\'m doing. I\'m just wandering the countryside developing skills, collecting stuff, and one day I suppose I\'ll deliver this amulet.
Dude, I finally was able to fix the problem I was having with a thieves guild quest! I can now finally finish the rest of the quests! Turns out I never picked up the right ring in the first place because it never spawned. So I waited three oblivion days and it eventually spawned. I am very happy.
I have about 95 hours of play right now and just started the fighter\'s guild quests. After that I still have the mage\'s guild quests, the arena, about 5 daedric quests, and probably 15-20 misc quests. I\'m currently level 29.
I just heard that Oblivion is going to be a PS3 launch title with a new faction (The Knights of the Nine) and added quests. After Christmas, when the scalping market has subsided and supplies have risen, I will probably get a PS3. I think I would enjoy playing Oblivion again as a different character.
You could buy the PC version, get expanded missions, bug fixes, and download tons of mods that add to gameplay...not the meantion the ease of playing with a keyboard. I mean...if you really like the game that much and wanted to get the most out of it.
I personally am kindof Oblivioned out. As soon as I finish all the acheivments I plan on trading it for something else. ...but what?
In all honesty, the PC version of this game definitely is the way to go as far as new content. The wealth of user created items, quests and other content is substantial. I would wager that the PC version will get the new PS3 content as well. However, I am content with the current game and I have really enjoyed playing from my couch on private chat with Jeff. And no, a laptop and Team Speak would not be as good (to me).
I\'m pretty sure you can hook up a wired 360 controller to your PC. If your PC is good enough, then yeah, go for Oblivion on the computer. I read an article recently about the top ten Oblivion mods on PC, and there was some cool stuff on there. Somebody is even making unique book jackets for each book in the game!
But it\'s hard to argue with Ryan; it\'s nice to chill out on a couch/bed and play from there.
I don\'t demand the absolute best gaming experience at any cost. I have plenty fun with my buggy 360 copy of Oblivion and I don\'t even have to go to KMart for a new video card. When I have completed all the quests plus all the downloadable content on XBL marketplace then I will consider going to the PC version, but by then I\'ll be drawing social security.
The PS3 has exclusive Oblivion what?
The ps3 version is coming out for the 360 and pc as well.

\"As many of you well know, the PlayStation 3 will be getting an updated version of smash-hit RPG Oblivion, heretofore only available on the Xbox 360 and PC. This announcement prompted concern amongst PC and Xbox 360 loyalists who worried about missing out on content exclusive to the PlayStation 3 version of the game.
Bethesda says don\'t worry your pretty little heads about it. Asked by IGN about the issue, Bethesda\'s Todd Howard replied, \"We always aim to have all our content available across all platforms, so that is our goal.\"
Welcome to the new generation! So long as no single platform has a major lead over the others, we can expect that most publishers will opt to launch their games for all platforms, assuming there are no technical limitations to doing so. Analyst consensus is that this generation of the console wars will be far less lopsided than the era in which the PlayStation 2 dominated. Publishers will naturally produce products for the platforms on which gamers congregate.
To put it another way: if you see an exclusive, someone paid big money to obtain rights to that exclusive.\"
I read that as well.
Never before has the power of two next-gen systems been so equal. PS2 was way beyond PS1. Xbox was way beyond PS2. Now a game doesn\'t have to sacrifice graphics to be ported to both systems. Wii games have to be made differently, with less polygons and lower-res textures, but that is the only exception. Wii games will have to be tweaked for the Wiimote anyway.
Shivering Isles, the expansion pack to Oblivion, is now available for download on XBLM.

...and I'm enjoying it already.
