We want your HALO 3 screenshots here. Add yours.
The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.
cause I used to be able to but a while ago it would pop up a thing saying \'\'access denied. restriction to chat rooms and games sites.\'\'
I\'ll field this one, Rap can jump in if I mispeak.
There is nothing on this site to prevent you from being able to reach it anywhere in the world. What you are describing sounds like the school or school system either recently installed a content filtering system, or it already had one and it recently classified this site as a gaming site.
Sometimes the software doing this can be installed directly on the client machine or can modify config files on the client machine, but usually in enterprise enviroments it is a bit more sophisticated than that. Usually the network is configured to route all http/https traffic through a special device that checks all requests against a known list of sites, and denies access to any that fall into one of the forbidden categories. This could be a specialized proxy server, or something that works in conjunction with a firewall.
There one or two ways around it, but the work arounds that I am aware of require that you have to have admin level access to the machine that you are working on (so that you can configure software and mess with network settings), and that you are willing to get in trouble if you get busted. It also assumes that whatever firewall and/or IDS is in place isn\'t locked down too tightly.

This is one of the reasons we moved off of our old site at Bungie. Half of us couldn\'t check the site from work. We had a discussion early in the evolution of this site and decided to try to keep it more about a group of people in huntsville than a group of gamers in Huntsville. This was to try to prevent it from eventually getting categorized as a gaming site (which would get it blocked from work again). Hence discussions about not just lanning, but disc golf, biking, local events, contact lenses, politics (whenever I have the energy), fishing (once a decade when The Rev isn\'t too lazy to type), and deployments to Iraq.
Having said all of that, please put questions and comments about the operation of this site in a thread and not in the shoutbox. There is an entire forum for this purpose.
That is all

Re: Hitting the site from work/school - Prey's shoutbox ques
Good work, Brick. If worst comes to worst (it gets blocked from work), we\'ll do some domain name spoofing to get it working.
Brick\'s right. We\'ve had some good content or questions posted to the Shoutbox recently. However, it should go to a new forum post. I know the Shoutbox is easy to use, but taking an extra 10 seconds to create a post will work out better for everyone.
I would not have seen Prey\'s post in the Shoutbox if Brick didn\'t create this new topic.
