The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.

I doubt it. I'm not going
I doubt it. I'm not going to deny that demos influence a buyer's decision, but sometimes demos don't accurately convey how good the actual game is itself (see Yahtzee's The Darkness impressions). Gears of War 2 will still end up being extremely hyped.
Halo 3 had beta tests, yes, but it's the sequel of Halo and Halo 2, and neither of those had public beta tests or demos (PC versions excluded) and those were extremely popular. Halo 3 was built off the massive hype which wouldn't be the same if it weren't for the first two games.
Also, Call of Duty 4 wouldn't have sold nearly as much had they decided to stick to one platform, seeing as how it's a multi-platform release and all. It was successful, but I don't think the beta nor the PC demo were as influential on the sales.
