The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.

It's an MMO-RPG with spaceships instead of people, and with 1 persistent universe on 1 logical server instead of hundreds of smaller dedicated servers like other MMORPGs. It's PvP, with minimal PvE (Player versus Environment) types of quests.. so you need to interact with other people and you'll end up getting tasks or battles to fight. Some corporations are established enough to provide you with ships for battle if you've got the skills.
I've done a bit of research on corporations and it led me to a couple conclusions:
Alliances are more important than the individual corporations. I kept reading about corporations that are against "BoB" and after a few web searches it lead me to this page. http://www.eve-online.com/alliances/ "BoB" is the Band of Brothers alliance, made up of 13 corporations and 2700 pilots, all with the goal of taking over the entire EVE Universe. Being a purely PvP and persistent environment, there's no rules against this. The video I posted above is from the Goonswarm alliance.. it's currently the largest, with 57 corporations and 5238 pilots, laying claim to something in the order of 120 star systems.
So yes, you can run around and look for stuff, or you can join a corporation and plug into an alliance and work towards a larger goal.
Eventually they plan on making the planets explorable, and will be able to leave your ship and walk around inside the space stations. As of now, I'm kindof glad you can't do that, as I'm still learning basics.
