Be undead

The Hushed Casket was founded in 2002 shortly after the launch of the XBOX console. Today the Hushed Casket is a thriving community of gamers, playing together and publishing news and stories that have appeared in major media properties like Newsweek, G4TV, USA Today, and Penny Arcade. Some game developers have even referenced our guides and news to support their gamers. We don't play Halo. We LAN Halo.

Speaking of H1 LANs, I

Speaking of H1 LANs, I wanted to see what some of you thought about an idea I had recently.

H1 is still the game of choice for THXers, at least out of the Halo trilogy. But it has some drawbacks. No XBL support. Must play split-screen in order to get more than 4 players in the same game. Graphics that are now sub-par (although nearly unsurpassed during it's time).

This got me thinking. Halo1 PC does not have these limitations. You can have 16 players in a game w/out split-screening. It has it's own online service and support (and I don't mean XBC), as well as LAN capability. It has better graphics. It even has other advantages, such as more weapons and maps. It can be run by any mid-range PC w/ Windows. It supports keyboard and mouse, AS WELL as the old Xbox S-Controller (or your favorite 3rd party gamepad). A PC LAN would be just as easy, if not easier, to coordinate than an Xbox LAN.

Some issues that will undoubtedly be brought up. "Does it play the same?" Yes. Not w/ keyboard and mouse, obviously, but w/ S-Controller, it's identical as far as I can tell on the campaign, only with better graphics.

"What do I need?" A PC w/ decent graphics, a monitor, some PC speakers, and an S-Controller. Game *NOT* needed. You can play locally on a LAN using one game disc, loading it on each PC, and then running a software emulator program that negates the requirement for the CD to be in the drive in order to play.

"How do I use my Xbox S-Controller on my PC?!" Herein lies the only catch. The S-Controller connection is merely a modified USB connector. All you need is an adapter ($10 on ebay) that turns it into the kind your PC uses, and software driver (which usually come with it, if not then I have a copy) that tells your PC what it is. Or if you're good w/ electronics (splicing, soldering, etc.), have a spare USB cable, and are resourceful enough, then you can ghetto-rig it yourself.

A $10 investment, per person, is potentially all we need to LAN Halo1 like we've never been able to do before... i.e., no more split-screening!

Anyhow, it's just a thought. Let me know what you guys think.
