Call of Duty 2's multiplayer, at least the online portion over Xbox Live, was horrible. It was fudged up so badly I couldn't help but think it was a cruel joke. One example is the amount of players allowed in a game. Sixteen player limit? That's not too bad. But oh wait; over Xbox Live, they decided to bring it down to eight players, while the PC version lets you have up to 32. Granted, more players doesn't always mean better, as Gears of War has proven, but aside from having to deal with the online matchmaking (why does my rank appear in an unranked playlist?), it was pretty bad. I'm not going to say it's more balanced, but I thought the execution in COD3's multiplayer was done respectably.
