It's just as I feared; Halo Wars is going to use a control scheme similar to EA's translation of the mouse and keyboard in BFME II and C&C3 for the 360. They're trying to take a real-time strategy game with a traditional PC-style top-down bird's-eye camera (although thankfully this is not a watered down port, but rather a game built from the ground up for the 360) and make it work with the gamepad.
I can't help but think no matter how hard they work on this game, no matter how awesome it looks, sounds, feels, runs, it will fail to reach its fullest potential because its controls will become a hinderence just because of the input device.
On a positive note: I'm not sure if I could say it looks better than Company of Heroes at this point, but those lighting and shadow effects were quite delicious. I hope the 360 can handle numerous amounts of units on the screen at the same time.
