The M6C in Halo 2 is just a variant of the same pistol from the first game, minus the explosive rounds and the 2x scope. It's just that you don't see the pistol anymore, doesn't mean that it's not in the Halo canon. Same goes for the MA5C assault rifle.

I mean, the energy sword never had a predecessor like the pistol or the assault rifle did. We'll need something that replaces the energy sword--perhaps a weapon with a more limited range and an even more limited ammo supply?
